I'm trying to understand this on a practical level. Let's say you talk to women in whatever context, whether a bar or nightclub, a supermarket or cafe, a party or group activity. You just proceed to ask for her number or her to go out for a drink. She says no, Do you then just gracefully accept it. Still be nice about it. Don't get angry or super hurt about it. Still talk to her and say "hi" if you see her again. Perhaps the most you do is just speak to her less, stop messaging her regularly etc.

The problem with this is it does take a heart of steel. Some men can't take rejection so well without getting hurt or having their confidence shattered. Some men are very sensitive. There are a kind of people in this world called HSPs (highly sensitive people). Its a psychological condition so can't easily be changed. We take rejection extremely poorly and badly. So much so, that it gives us approach or escalation anxiety. And in those cases you do get rejected, while you might not be a jerk, you do become distant and also feel like you wouldn't know what to say or do when you see that person again. Also, you can imagine what might happen with multiple rejections, when one is already that bad!
