Yeah.... Having the huge need to urinate is not going to help make your first cold approach ever go smoothly. The old recommendation was to give your friend $50 or $100 at the beginning of a night and have him promise you not to return it unless you did X amount of approaches. I would stick with that approach.

The reason you are scared of doing your first cold approach is because your ego is in the way and you're afraid of rejection. There's nowhere to hide in a cold approach. The rejection is right to your face. Compare this to dating apps where you can hide behind a screen and you don't have to watch a girl swipe left on you.

The ironic thing is that, once you actually do a cold approach and just put your ego on the line, you realize that the "rejection" is not personal and you are liberated.

This is also why many guys favor indirect cold approaches. Indirect allows them to protect their egos by hiding behind the indirect opening and once again not put themselves on the line.

So what to do?

Go up to the next attractive girl you want to cold approach and just simply say, "Hey I saw you from over there and I thought you looked really cute". Or SOMETHING that puts it on the line.

I self calibrate so now I'm looking for the answer to this: why do I fear small talk or running out of things to say? And how do i make small talk not painful? Partial Answer: be genuinely curious about the other person. Partial New Problem: how to be interested in someone enough to want to make small talk (looks aren't an inciting enough enticement here). The main reason cold approach is scary at first is because you're scared of rejection because you want to get her number.... start practicing by approaching people and not wanting to get their number (just talk to them for a bit and then leave)
