Can you all talk with me about where the drive/urge/bad habit of mothering LVM comes from? Is it because as women we want things done right and we just know men won't do it so we take over? Is it a pickme trait because we want to seem more valuable to men?

It's such a consistent dynamic, even with what seem like decent, normal men. I notice myself sliding into it so easily. I grew up in a neglectful home and ended up mothering my 3 younger siblings, so that muscle memory is there--mothering is how I learned to show love in concrete ways. But how do we get stuck doing it with men, who ostensibly should be functioning adults on their own? I am 100% clear that I don't want children of my own, and I STILL struggle to not remind a boyfriend to do a task he should remember himself. Or I assume that I will notice and offer support if he's struggling emotionally but I will need to ask for it from him, he won't notice it on his own--like you wouldn't expect your toddler to follow your emotional currents. Is it because they literally AREN'T capable? Like we just can't expect men to have these capabilities both by nature and because of how they've been socialized? And the HVM are the ones who are trainable? Idk.

I've literally never heard of the reverse, a man "mothering" a woman. Sugar daddy/baby relationships are economic, like he's not cooking her meals and reminding her to call her mother on her birthday. What is going on here and why do SO MANY of us fall into this trap?
