I find it interesting that one of the reasons womens groups apposed womens right to vote, was that the right to vote was directly linked to having to be drafted into war to protect that right.

Mens right to vote was directly linked to their responsibility to be drafted to protect that vote, and still is with the mens only draft.

We now give women the right vote, with no responsibility to be drafted to protect that vote. Gotta love that Equality!!!

Just remove the draft as a whole.

You either have the option of making it male only which is beyond my tolorances for sexism, or allow women in which would comprimise national security.

I really don't understand why this petition doesn't have more signatures. It seems to me that men would want it because it would resolve one blatant case of institutional misandry, and women would want it because it would affirm their 'we can do anything you can do' ideal. Yes, of course not all women or men hold these ideals. But I would think more that 68 people do. Yet so far that's the number of people who have signed the petition.

And as for the argument that the draft should be done away with entirely, that's just not going to happen. Sorry. It is the imperitive of any and all soveriegn states to assert the right to conscription. It's actually one of the defining characteristics of a state, I would say. That doesn't mean we have to like it. But it doesn't change the reality either. So knowing that the draft isn't going anywhere, I'd rather it were at least not sexist. Please do sign the petition.

Edit: Whoops! This is the petition to end the selective service. There was also one to include women. My comment refers to the latter. Also, nah! They aren't a waste of time. They generate media attention at the least and some small amount of government attention from time to time as well. Drop by drop the bucket eventually runs over..

Can anyone give an argument against this? I honestly cannot think of one... Women want everything equal except for dying for the country? Well, and all those other things that "men are supposed to do." WTF? I can't figure this out. I heartily disagree with this notion. I'm an MRA but I would be a better soldier than my wife.

That's pretty much the case with any male over any female. We simply have more physical strength, agility and speed. You can bulk up a woman to look like a neanderthal but she likely won't be fast as your average soldier. You can have a waife of a woman who is fast but won' be able to carry a rucksack.

Drafting women/having women in the position of "soldier" will just get more soldiers killed and makes sense for no one. Equality sometimes needs to be set aside for practicality.

Edit: Not that we'll likely see a draft ever again.

How about we just stop with these stupid e petitions. The site started as a great idea, now it's just a joke. This is nearly as bad as the "get in god we trust removed from money" karma whoring ones that make constant rounds on /r/atheism. Obviously I love the idea of ending male only drafts, or drafts in general, but it's sure as hell not going to happen through that website. Get in contract with your local representatives, that's what their there for.

I'm sorry, but I simply don't think that it would be wise to have all women eligible for the draft. Some women are stay at home moms or wives and it would be devastating to a young family if a mom/wife did get drafted. My wife and I are over 26, but if in a parallel world where she got drafted, I'd be doing my best to make sure she was pregnant so that she'd be ineligible to fight.

Now to allow women to register for selective services voluntarily I think would be fine. I'm for men's rights, but I'm not for equal rights. Men and women are different and have different roles to play in this world.
