Dear INSERT NAME OR ORGANISATION,

I urge you to strongly condemn/reconsider the proposed penal code announced by the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, which would allow the stoning and flogging of gay men in Brunei.

I understand the new penal code will be installed in three phases over three years. The first phase includes fines and prison sentences. The second phase includes corporal punishment, such as amputations for theft. The third phase includes the stoning to death of gay men.

These Taliban-like laws have no place in modern life and blatantly violate basic human rights.

Despite deep concern from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, its statement that these new laws violate international law, and its request that Brunei delay implementation of the code until after the government conducts a comprehensive review of the law using international human rights standards, the first phase of these draconian laws took effect on May 1st.

Brunei's reputation and standing in the world is undermined by this legislation, and I would encourage you to do all you can to ensure its repeal.
