A generation of men were raised to value and respect women, while the same generation of women were raised to value and respect themselves. The result is of no surprise.

[–]nyarlathotep999 149 points150 points151 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That generation of women were also raised to devalue and disrespect men, also.

[–]Cuddlyzombie91 81 points82 points83 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just go to xxchromosome, plenty of popular votes declaring that "men are trash".

[–]deusdeorum 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'd say they weren't necessarily raised to devalue and disrespect men.

What it did do, as jamessac11 said, was to do the opposite, and in doing so, they were raised to value and respect themselves WITHOUT doing the same for men.

The sentiment was "girl power, independence, you don't need a man, make your voice heard" even if doing so is at the expense of men.

I think many of this new wave, don't even realize how they are devaluing and disrespecting men. Their perspectives and "justification" are so distorted.

It's a wave of cognitive dissonance.

[–]HyruleKnight271 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Ion mean to be all "FeMmInIsM sUcKs" but... In all seriousness, most of what they preach is VERY misogynistic and if you dare say anything you're a pig

[–]nyarlathotep999 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see more openly misandrist attitudes, but there are subtle misogynistic elements. For example, putting the onus of female safety on educating men as a group that criminal activity is wrong (as if men as a group don't know this and that those criminal elements would be instantly reformed by a good talking to), instead of encouraging women to take on their own self defense and exercise caution, sets women up to be more easily victimized by criminal elements. If that sort of disempowerment doesn't express hatred for women, I don't know what does.

[–]Aromatherapypine 31 points32 points33 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And this generation of men is being raised with constant bombardment from media of the “buffoon” man/dad trope

[–]ubertrashcat 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think it's always been like this. Throwing plates, scratching, yelling and shaming are accepted patterns of behavior.

[–]vwatchrepair 63 points64 points65 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. That's what I don't get with the woke crowd. They're doing the exact thing now with races. What will be happening in 10-20 years from now will not be pretty. But, it won't be surprising to us.

No, women have respected and valued themselves, as to even be placed on a pedestal, above men, but then were influenced to hate and abuse men.

Good data for the UK. It comes to a similar conclusion for data from the US.

Here's the link to the actual study, as The Daily Mail has a bit of excess in ads, and doesn't provide the link: Original Study

Summary of UK study:

  • For Intimate Partner Violence women make up 71% of perpetrators in the UK. This is despite the fact both men and women show similar violence levels to non-partners, with men being 0.8x as violent to a partner than a non-partner, and women being 2.66x more violent to partners than non-partners.

However, the proportion of the sample perpetrating one or more acts of both forms of aggression was 9.2%, and it was similar for men and women. Over twice this percentage perpetrated one or more acts of IPV only (18.4%), and this was heavily skewed for women with 24.5% falling into this category, compared to 7.5% of men. source

Summary of US study:

  • For domestic abuse women make up 70% of non-reciprocal domestic violence, and perpetrate it at 2.3x the rate.

In nonreciprocally violent relationships, women were the perpetrators in more than 70% of the cases. Reciprocity was associated with more frequent violence among women adjusted odds ratio: 2.3*, 95% confidence interval: 1.9, 2.8. source

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 48 points49 points50 points 5 years ago (47 children) | Copy Link

Brilliant! Thanks!

[+]nofreespeechherenope -47 points-46 points-45 points 5 years ago* (46 children) | Copy Link

Keep in mind that the 70% is only considering relationships that are violent to begin with, which is ~24 of all relationships in the US study, so 70% of 24% is 16.8%.

Also, when women engage in violence, they're much less likely to inflict bodily harm than men are when they engage in violence against their partners.

The study also said that men are probably less likely to report being violent. Remember the police domestic violence study? 40%? That is a low estimate.

Lmao downvoted for citing the study in the OP

[–]Drakengard 72 points73 points74 points 5 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

Also, when women engage in violence, they're much less likely to inflict bodily harm than men are when they engage in violence against their partners

I understand the point, but it really has no place in the discussion. It suggests that this kind of behavior is tolerable because they don't do 'harm'. Harm is not simply a matter of physical injury from an assault. It's a question of a person no longer feeling safe in their the one place that they should be - physically and mentally. It's unacceptable to treat anyone you supposedly love like that.

[–]SonOfHibernia 17 points18 points19 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Seriously. Don’t women say “I’d rather he hit me” I hear that all the time when people talk about trauma related to emotional/verbal abuse. And it turns out women are much more likely to abuse emotionally, AND physically. So...

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

There have been studies debunking the idea that men for the most part inflict more damage than women in DV situations.

Abusive men are still more likely to “hold back” than women. Women are also more likely to use weapons, throw things, cut, stab etc.

Most female victims of DV present mostly with superficial injuries or no injuries at all.

There have been studies

Watch the video and learn. You can look into as many of the studies he references as you like

[+]nofreespeechherenope -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

I'm not in a position to watch a long, winded youtube video with only 1,400 views at the moment that doesn't even care to cite the studies it talks about (but it will post their patreon links!). If you can cite papers, I can read them, though!

[+]nofreespeechherenope -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

It suggests that this kind of behavior is tolerable because they don't do 'harm'

Not at all what I was implying. It does have a place in this conversation, though. We're not just talking about psychological harm, are we? If we want to be impartial and objective, we need to consider violence against both men and women, other wise we're being as biased as the radical feminists that completely ignore men's issues.

It was one of the main points of the US study (besides the fact that reciprocal violence is something we should focus on). The least we can do is reflect on that.

The US study literally said that violence against women is likely underreported, so saying 70% of women are violent is wrong in more than one way.

Leaving out the 76% of relationships that aren't violent at all is dishonest at worst and ignorant at best.

But that doesn't matter. I'll just get downvoted for citing the actual study.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 33 points34 points35 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

All violence is underreported. But men are far more likely to underreport than women.

[–]nofreespeechherenope -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

Well then how can you say conclusively that women are more violent than men?

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

We don’t need to say that. We are more concerned with debunking the feminist myth that DV is a “gendered crime”

[–]nofreespeechherenope 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

So let's say we can conclusively say that women are both more verbally and physically abusive.

How is that not a gendered crime?

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Because even if that were the case there would still be a significant number of female victims. It wouldn’t be a gendered issue but a human issue.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

The downvotes are for missing the point and downplaying the situation.

To elaborate, this data demonstrates that women are significantly more likely to be the sole IPV perpetrators, which is rarely talked-about outside of men's rights communities.

This rases two points:

1) A significant portion of legislation is designed to treat males as the perpetrators regardless of the actual truth. This means that in the disproportionate number of cases the victim is abused by both the perpetrators and the justice system. This makes males effectively second class people. No body, male, female or otherwise, should have to experience such treatment. (the way you downplay the numbers suggests your lack of support for the last statement)

2) The availability of aid to the abuse victims. The aid organisations helping male IPV victims are barely existing, while there is plethora of resources existing for females. This (if I remember correctly) contradicts with the UN bill of human rights. On this point I would suggest to familiarise yourself with the story of Erin Pizzey (she established Domestic violence shelters for women, and tried to do the same for men).

Hope this helps.

[–]nofreespeechherenope 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

No, I'm calling out the comment above me for being intentionally misleading - and up-playing the situation.

This isn't the only study that disspels the myth that men are always the perpetrator. There's a massive body of research that shows otherwise, and garbage like the Duluth Model should be treated as such.

But you don't care. You'll just downvote me anyways. You see big bold numbers that confirm your biases and updoot away without actually reading the studies that are cited.

DV is a problem. ~24% of all relationships have DV according to this one self-reported study.

70% of all women aren't violent. That was my entire point. 70% OF 24% OF women in relationships are self-reported to be violent.

[–]bufedad 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

70% of all women aren't violent.

Luckily, no one claimed they were

[–]nofreespeechherenope -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

That's what the comment above me was implying. They left out crucial information either on purpose or by mistake.

[–]bufedad 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not in the slightest. Its a great strawman to argue against, but no one has made that claim or implied it.

[–]masterdarthrevan 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey at least your not getting banned for simply stating facts for asking a question, unlike some other subs...

[–]nofreespeechherenope 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There's a reason this is my 35th reddit account... I've certainly been banned on those other subs before.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

No, I will not just downvote. An argument is a crucial step in finding a way to come together to fight all of DV, and make the world a better place for all. =)

No one said that all women are bad, that is a strawman. Simply that when it comes to DV with only one person (as opposed to mutual violence) being violent 70% of the time it is a woman.

[–]nofreespeechherenope 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

No one said that all women are bad

Maybe not in this particular thread, but I do see that being said a lot, especially in manosphere circles.

Conversely, I do see "men are trash" a bunch from the "other side", and I call it out when I see it, but you can't say "No one said that all women are bad". It does happen, very frequently.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Now I see your perspective. Thank you for clarifying.

In this case it is a strawman. You are adding a reply to a statement that was not made in this conversation. When such statements are made, it is fair to counter them. This is not the appropriate place for it. The "manosphere" is not a hivemind, there are simply some issues that we happen to agree on. There is no dogma to the "manosphere", and everyone here is an individual first and foremost. Hence, we can only bare the responsibility of our own words and actions, not someone else's. Therefore, your statements in this thread are misplaced.

This can be a very long phisical discussion about how colletivistic ideologies can never lead anything good or just, and inevitably lead to evil.

The point is that one must not presume the guilt, but presume the innocence of each individual within the group, unless their guilt is proven. (and if guilt is proven make them justly pay)

[–]nofreespeechherenope 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The "manosphere" is not a hivemind

I never said it was. I think you're purposefully misinterpreting my message.

[–]Iceman_Hottie 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The criticism still applies. Do not castigate people for the actions of others.

What would be the point of me purposely misinterpreting?

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I never understand the “women can’t cause as much physical damage as men can” argument. Does it mean it’s okay for my boyfriend to hit me as long as it doesn’t leave a bruise? As a woman, I can’t say that I find this study surprising. I’ve never hit a man, but I can’t say I don’t know any women that haven’t either. I know men that have been hit by women too.

[–]SonOfHibernia 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That doesn’t mean anything when you talk about “trauma” isn’t that what this discussion is all about? Being beaten by your partner inflicts untold trauma, but you justify it by saying “oh, well, she can’t kill him with one punch. So it’s not as bad” women are wonderful!

[–]GojiNuts 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does anyone know of similar studies in Australia?

[–]GojiNuts 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you very much for the highlights. This is dynamite!

[–]MyLittleDashie7 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago* (13 children) | Copy Link

Couple things worth noting. The average age of the participants is pretty damn young. The majority are in their 20's. It's entirely possible that the relationship with violence changes over time, or is a function of growing up in different times. I don't think it's that farfetched that older men might be m In which case you really couldn't extrapolate this out to all people. At best you could just say that it's true for young people.

And also the results were obtained via a questionnaire. Which is hardly the most reliable of sources, especially when you're asking people whether or not they engaged in domestic violence. People have a tendency to lie, even if the questionnaire is anonymous. On top of that, it's possible that the difference is a matter of being more able to recognise that behaviour in yourself.

You can imagine a scenario where two groups of people have different ideas about what counts as a particular thing, and if one has a broader idea of what counts then the results would say that they do the thing more often, but the reality could be that there's no difference at all.

I'm not saying there's absolutely zero value in the study, just that you maybe shouldn't go away believing it's conclusions whole-heartedly. This isn't exactly airtight, there are issues with the study.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Most domestic violence reports happen in younger people and tend to taper out as people age. This is the general pattern that is seen. The same researchers are moving on to conduct studies with older people next.

They actually borrowed most of the methods used in this study from previous studies that feminists love to flaunt.

So if you want to throw out the methodology you have to pretty much throw out all the research done on DV up until this point.

Questionnaires are actually quite normal for this sort of thing. They are anonymised to allow people to be fully honest without risk of being stigmatised.

They defined the severity and types of violence. Actually read the study and stop speculating. You’re being lazy.

There are issues with all studies. Fortunately there are hundreds of other studies that all come to the same or similar conclusions.

[–]MyLittleDashie7 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

They defined the severity and types of violence. Actually read the study and stop speculating. You’re being lazy.

I'm gonna start with this part, because I want to acknowledge that you actually have a point with this one. I will grant you, I haven't read the study in it's entirety. It was very late at night when I made the comment, and I think most of it holds true regardless of the specifics of how the questions were answered. I did try and find just where the damn questions were, to see how exactly they were phrased to the participants, but I didn't. Basically, you may well be right that they were phrased well enough that the "categorisation" issue I mentioned isn't actually an issue. I honestly still can't see where the questions are, so I can't judge that for myself.

Most domestic violence reports happen in younger people and tend to taper out as people age. This is the general pattern that is seen. The same researchers are moving on to conduct studies with older people next.

Glad to hear they're moving onto dealing with more age ranges, but then why are they portraying their results as though it applies to everyone, and not just the most recent generation of adults.

They actually borrowed most of the methods used in this study from previous studies that feminists love to flaunt.

I really think this betrays a bias in you that you should really examine. If you think it's okay to have solid beliefs based on not-so-solid evidence just because The Other Side (TM) are doing it to, you're not actually interested in discovering the truth.

So if you want to throw out the methodology you have to pretty much throw out all the research done on DV up until this point.

Which I pretty much do. Guess what, questionnaires aren't a particularly reliable source of data. People can and do lie, or be wrong, or just forget. They aren't terrible but they aren't great either. For all the same reasons I'll never trust eye-witness testimony in a court case, I'm not going to trust self-reported data.

Questionnaires are actually quite normal for this sort of thing. They are anonymised to allow people to be fully honest without risk of being stigmatised.

Again, even when anonymous, people still have a tendency to not put down accurate answers for whatever reason. It being normal doesn't make it any more reliable.

There are issues with all studies. Fortunately there are hundreds of other studies that all come to the same or similar conclusions.

Possibly, but if they all have the same flaws that's not really saying much, since their results would all be biased in the same direction. If that really is the case though, post a meta-study, not a bloody Daily Mail article.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago* (10 children) | Copy Link

Glad to hear they're moving onto dealing with more age ranges, but then why are they portraying their results as though it applies to everyone, and not just the most recent generation of adults.

They haven't done this at all. They've differentiated between men and women. Why? Because they were doing a study between men and women. Furthermore, the study was open to people up to the age of 71. It just so happened that it was mostly younger people who participated. The average age of the men was 26 anyway, so that's hardly too young. Furthermore, they controlled for age using MANCOVAs. Actually read the study.

I really think this betrays a bias in you that you should really examine. If you think it's okay to have solid beliefs based on not-so-solid evidence just because The Other Side (TM) are doing it to, you're not actually interested in discovering the truth.

Again, you clearly haven't even read the study have you? Do you know what the study was even trying to test? It was designed to test previous study predictions relating to "male control theory" of IPV and the Johnson's typology (1995). This is totally dependent therefore on claims made by feminist endorsed studies (which largely have zero academic rigour). I find it very hard to take you seriously because you yourself don't know what you're talking about and clearly have your own biases you need to contend with. In other words, stop projecting.

Ok, now you're finally being consistent. If you don't trust anything people say then that's fair enough. I would love to see evidence of you critiquing "male control theory" somewhere however. Please provide links to comments if you have any.

Ok, now you're finally being consistent. If you don't trust anything people say then that's fair enough.

Motherfucker, I was being consistent the whole time. If you thought that I was somehow endorsing male control theory, again, that's your biases. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure I didn't say at any point "Oh, this study is rubbish, but man, those F E M I N I S T studies before hand that used the same methods were all great!"

If you thought that was my position, you were the one who put that on me. Again, you might want to consider your own biases.

I would love to see evidence of you critiquing "male control theory" somewhere however.

I tell you what, if I happened to see a study about it on TwoXChromosomes or something, and I felt the interest to go look at it, yes, I would absolutely criticise it's methodology if it had the same issues.

Sorry I haven't gone and criticised every study under the sun before coming across this one today. Literally I think the only other study I've seen that I've critiqued like this was one about women's penis length preferences where half the female participants weren't even sexually attracted to men, and the sample size was like 70 odd people.

I don't think it's a valid criticism of me that I haven't happened to call out some feminist papers you don't like.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so when you claimed that you critique all studies and methodologies in this way you were actually lying...

Until you provide any sort of proof that you are consistent like you have claimed then there is no point in furthering this discussion. You simply can not back up anything you are saying.

Provide one piece of proof that you have critiqued ANY OTHER domestic violence related study and we can move forward.

In the mean time, actually read the study beforehand before trying to "debunk" it. It makes you look foolish. You haven't even raised a single point that invalidates the conclusion of the study.

[–]MyLittleDashie7 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Ok, so when you claimed that you critique all studies and methodologies in this way you were actually lying...

... I'm sorry, did you think I literally meant that I have been on forums talking about every study and critiquing them all, as opposed to the far more obvious interpretation of "If such a study is put before more, I would criticise it in the same way". If you show me a feminist study that used the same methodology as this one, I would criticise it in the exact same way. Again, sorry I haven't been out and found them already in preparation for seeing this study I had no idea about until yesterday evening showing up on my front page. Clearly that's an indictment on my character. What the fuck are you talking about?

Until you provide any sort of proof that you are consistent like you have claimed then there is no point in furthering this discussion.

I'm telling you now that this is my feeling on the matter. That is the proof. You're welcome to think I'm lying if you really like, but if I really was the sort of person who thinks it's totally okay to be inconsistent about what methods you consider valid, and which you don't, as long as the study fits your agenda, then why on Earth would I be saying this right now? I'm clearly criticising that kind of behaviour, so I would either have to be the world's best mental gymnast to be so unequivocally criticising my own behaviour, while still engaging in it, or maybe just maybe I really would hold any study to precisely the same scrutiny.

You haven't even raised a single point that invalidates the conclusion of the study.

I was never trying to invalidate it. If you read my comments, I made it pretty clear that I wasn't trying to say the results are complete bullshit, just that you need to temper your belief in the results with the flaws in the methodology.

You should really read my comments before you try to "debunk" them. It makes you look foolish.

They made that clear in the study and they haven't misrepresented anything.

Oooooh! Well so long as they say they haven't misrepresented anything, I suppose it must be true then. Meanwhile they are still applying their data to all people even though is was almost exclusively gathered from young people. But it wasn't actually exclusive, so I guess that's fine then.

Anybody of any age can be a student.

What fucking drugs are you on? I never said "Only young people are students", the point is that students heavily skew young. Older learners exist, but their data is going to be massively washed out compared to the data of the younger participants, or alternatively, the sample size is going to be significantly smaller meaning the older data still isn't all that valuable.

And they did portray it as such. Unfortunately, you didn't even bother reading past the first page of the abstract.

I absolutely did read past the abstract, but I think you have completely misunderstood the purpose of an abstract. When I talk about how they portray the data, I'm talking about the abstract, because that's literally the job of the abstract. It's your summary of the data, it's how your portraying it, and all of the language in the abstract (while it does say it was gathered from students, meaning the age range skews young) applies the data to "men" and "women" in general. Which is exactly what I'm criticising.

Do you even have any idea what you're even saying? Go back and read the study before commenting any further. Once you have a grasp of it, you'll see what I've said makes perfect sense.

That's not a reply to what I was saying. That part of my comment had nothing to do with the study, and everything to do with your own words. I want you to explain the discrepancy in how you have described this study. You say this study is both the same as the feminist studies, but also has merit, but also that the feminist studies have no merit. Explain your words. Don't tell me to "read the study" again, it's irrelevant in this question, explain why your descriptions of these studies have this contradiction.

Your biases have already been exposed for all to see.

Again, not an answer.

I'm also waiting for you to show me ANY evidence that you have tried to critique any feminist analyses of DV in the same way.

Motherfucker talks about needing to be objective, and how biased I am, but genuinely expects me to have previously criticised work I haven't ever been presented with before. Again, my fucking bad for not having come across those studies before, but I am telling you now, with my words, that if they genuinely use the same methodology as this study, then yes I do take issue with them, and don't think people should wholeheartedly trust their conclusions. Same as I do with this study.

Because my criticism has literally nothing to do with the subject matter, and everything to do with how the data was gathered. This could've been a study about how much white people and black people like fucking pop tarts, and if it was gathered like this, I would still criticise it.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm telling you now that this is my feeling on the matter. That is the proof.

And this is the problem right here. You need to do less feeling and more thinking. I rest my case. Go back and read the study.

[–]MyLittleDashie7 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Jesus, okay, now I'm sure you're a troll. You were questioning my intentions about why I was criticising this particular study. That is a question about my internal motives, my feelings. You attack my feelings, I describe them to you, and you go for the "Feels over reals" argument.

Motherfucker wants to talk to me about objectivity, and bias, when you've got ad hominem and bad faith arguments coming out the ears.

[–]MyLittleDashie7 -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They've differentiated between men and women.

Which makes it appear as though the data was gathered, and applies to all age ranges, yes.

Because they were doing a study between men and women.

No, it was done between male and female students. Not just men and women. Just because it's technically correct that the study was about men vs women, that doesn't make it an accurate description.

Furthermore, the study was open to people up to the age of 71.

The study was open to people older than that, but the average wasn't even close to that old. The results of anyone over the age of 40 will have been completely washed out by the majority.

It just so happened that it was mostly younger people who participated.

And it should be portrayed as such. Just because you intended to pull from a large group doesn't mean you can act as though your results were from a large group, when they weren't.

It was designed to test previous study predictions relating to "male control theory" of IPV and the Johnson's typology (1995). This is totally dependent therefore on claims made by feminist endorsed studies (which largely have zero academic rigour).

Why does that matter? For the record, yes I was aware of this, it just changes absolutely nothing for me about how the data was gathered. Who cares if the intent was to counter other studies which, in your own words "largely have zero academic rigour", and also in your own (paraphrased) words used the same method as this study that you reckon does have academic rigour.

You've tried to have it both ways now. You've defended this study on the basis that it uses the same methods as the feminist studies, implying they both have trustworthy methods, but now your saying the feminist studies are utterly worthless. So which is it?

But please, enlighten me. What are the biases I'm showing right now? As I treat all of these studies with similar methodologies the same way.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Which makes it appear as though the data was gathered, and applies to all age ranges, yes.

The study was open to all age ranges yes. They made that clear in the study and they haven't misrepresented anything. You just haven't even bothered to read the abstract of the study. The are fully transparent about all of this. So this is a moot point.

No, it was done between male and female students. Not just men and women. Just because it's technically correct that the study was about men vs women, that doesn't make it an accurate description.

Anybody of any age can be a student. How do you define student? And why is this even problematic? Is the mean age of 26-27 for men representative of what you would define as a student? Again, the study clarifies all of this and they don't hide anything. Another moot point.

And it should be portrayed as such. Just because you intended to pull from a large group doesn't mean you can act as though your results were from a large group, when they weren't.

And they did portray it as such. Unfortunately, you didn't even bother reading past the first page of the abstract. You really need to start reading things objectively before critiquing. You are showing your inherent biases.

You've tried to have it both ways now. You've defended this study on the basis that it uses the same methods as the feminist studies, implying they both have trustworthy methods, but now your saying the feminist studies are utterly worthless. So which is it?

This is old news. Erin Pizzey who opened the world's first women's shelter, said this...

"Soon after establishing her first refuge, Pizzey asserted that much of the domestic violence was reciprocal. She reached this conclusion when she asked the women in her refuge about their violence, only to discover most of them were equally violent or more violent than their husbands."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Pizzey

She's now an Anti Feminist and receives constant death threats.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It’s old news that needs to be repeated unfortunately for newer listeners.

[–]MBV-09-C 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I still can't get over the fact that she decides to do good by opening the shelter in the first place, comes to a conclusion that literally any sane person would in her situation, and then they decide to kick her out of her own shelter and shoot her dog. Being that evil only proved her point about people grossly underestimating a woman's ability for violence and abuse.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Feminism has always been a fraudulent movement. It’s always been about money and power and the domestic violence issue is their multi-billion dollar cash cow.

Of course they have to lie about it. If they tell the truth the money dries up and the feminist movement dies.

No more living in Hollywood mansions for them.

[–]MarsRisen 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Feminism is like a cult. They'll do anything to cover up the truth.

[–]mrfortran 129 points130 points131 points 5 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

I got physically and verbally attacked by my ex-wife multiple times. I would hold her to avoid being hurt, but she would do me more harm if she could. The worse part is not the physical attack, but the shame and fear of it. Shame for being attacked and not allowed to do anything. And fear because she would always start screaming that I was the one attacking her. My lucky was that she is too dumb to learn English and could not articulate the fabricated story that I hit her.

[–]dtyler86 69 points70 points71 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Same happened to me. Confronted cheating ex, she proceeded to chug tequila and scratch and bruise herself telling me that if I kick her out of our apt, which I did, she would call the police and tell them I beat and attempted to rape her. That was a turning point in my life when I discovered MRA and the red pill.

[–]ilostallmykarma 23 points24 points25 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I'm all for men's rights and although SOME of the logic in the Red Pill is accurate, I wouldn't subscribe to the AWALT mentality.

My ex was abusive and after years of trying to figure out what was wrong with her I listened to HG Tudor and realized I was married to a narcissist.

People throw that term around but it was legit NPD. My mother had it as well, still hate her to this day and is the reason I tend to attract the Narcissists.

Today, however, I'm in a relationship going on 5 years now and she's still as amazing as she was day 1.

Point is, Red Pill tends to encourage the thought that all women are conniving and evil. That's not true and if you find yourself in relationships with a lot of terrible women it means you should look inward and try to figure out if you're the one subconsciously choosing these terrible people.

I hope you're in a better place now man.

[–]dtyler86 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for the nice and thorough response. And I do agree 100%. I get irritated discussing red pill because there are a lot of very truthful pillars involving male female psychology in the dating spectrum, but there are so many very angry and overall hateful people in those communities that they give it a very bad name.

I’m glad to hear you’re in a happy relationship as well. I am too. i’ve been a very independent person most of my life so I’ve always dated very independent girls since I liked my space and realize the type of girls that tend to be very independent are often riddled with insecurity and often very selfish. That was a one-way road to disaster on multiple accounts often perfectly reverberated in red pill theories. I’m now engaged to a very amazing woman end so much of the AWALT principles have no place in our world. Psychology of course, yes, but not in a angry approach.

😂😂😂😂 Awww, did I strike a nerve?? Jesus, you're pathetic. You're getting all up in arms and lack reading comprehension.

This is in no way victim blaming. It's about being an empath, subconsciously giving tells and attracting narcissists without realizing you are doing so.

If you're in a situation where you are always with terrible women this is likely the situation and you should take a hard look at what tells you are giving away and familiarize yourself with the tells of a narcissist.

Do some goddamn research before attacking people on the internet. The person I replied to clearly didn't take it the way you are.

[–]Affectionate-Art-851 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am a women that has been in a abusive relationship. I can totally confirm. In no way a person deserves to be abused and the fault is on the abuser (male or female). But I needed to recognise the pattern and my part on it. I had weak boundaries because I learned from a you g age, that I had to accept people treatin me this way. It helped me to change my views and now I am in a happy non-abusive realtionship with a very nice and understanding man.

[–]ilostallmykarma 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm a man. Also, I have said this to women before. My sister was in an abusive relationship and my girlfriend was in an abusive relationship before me.

[–]IHaveTheSquirts 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

My first girlfriend hit me on dozens of occasions, threatened me, verbally abused me regularly, and used the anxiety that she gave me to control me. She convinced me that I had a significant amount of visceral fat to gaslight me into going on a diet so I could fit into more fashionable skinny jeans. When I spilled a drink on my pants in a restaurant and had to change into my gym clothes, she drove home alone without me because she didn't want to be seen with a guy wearing sportswear at night.

Literally every feminist I've told this to either (a) said they needed to hear her side of the story, (b) called me a liar, or (c) said that even if I were abused, men overall are more abusive. A few of them laughed at me for the sportswear story because forcing your loved one to walk several miles home is funny as long as it's a woman doing it to a man.

People need to understand that feminism enables women like your ex-wife and my ex-girlfriend. In case you were wondering, yes, she was a rabid feminist.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]Toaster224 53 points54 points55 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is happening because decades of feminist rhetoric has taught women that violence is only a problem when it's male on female. So many women think physical aggression is appropriate when their man isn't behaving how they'd like.

[–]xsplizzle 26 points27 points28 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How many times in movies has female on male violence seen as not only acceptable but also comical (man forgets birthday *slap*)

[–]MBV-09-C 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thinking back on all the times women have decided to hit me because they got upset or just annoyed and lashed out is sobering when looking back at with the context that it actually is thoughtless abuse and not just 'playing around'. My ex, my sister, my mom, female friends, they all hit me when they got annoyed and no one even thought anything of it because it was assumed they couldn't hurt me.

‘"Now there is more support for men and more of them are feeling comfortable coming forward.’ "

I find that to be a vague statement to make since I have followed U of Cumbria studies( and the other one in I think it was Lancashire). Because I looked a the results( I participated in the studies) and the result were a majority of men were afraid to come forward or report.

a uk study done in 2015 or 2017 showed that the majority of men especially fathers had no confidence in the judiciary, the police or even the DV support groups hence they didn't come forward.

In late 2017/18 several welsh assembly members took legal action against the DV support group "respect" because they discriminated against men by refusing to offer support( they had claimed that they had statistics claiming that men were majority perpetrators from the UK equality commission).

I think very little has changed in support for male victims of domestic violence since the recent Domestic Violence bill consultation committee sought to exclude groups representing male victims such as mankind, and not lets not forget Boris "Orinoco womble" Johnson statement about extra funding for female victims of DV and " a few men" which was just a platitude to avoid being called an idiot( which he is anyway) or a sexist..

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes I agree with you. I wouldn’t read too much into that statement. I think the researcher was merely speculating. They admitted to being surprised at the results as it was an all female research team.

Were you in the Cumbria study or another one?

[–]rahsoft 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hi i was in one or two of the studies of Cumbria( and others) on domestic violence, confidence in the legal system, police etc recently two or so years back I believe. I seem to remember being told that it would take a while for the data to be processed.

and yes I agree i think the researcher was speculating, I have come across some studies that extrapolate from a small sample and either cant understand the demographics of the sample they choose, or decide to ignore it which risk undermining their own study( a bit like "we asked a 1000 people in one city/town" and then claiming it represented an entire population of millions)

[–]OzoneLaters 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Turns out all that stuff about how men used to beat women was actually because men were protecting themselves from violent women...

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes I think Harvard University did a study on this. They found in most cases when men got violent with women it was in response to female initiated violence

[–]OzoneLaters 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So basically it just used to be that men could protect themselves without having to worry about imprisonment...

[–]Lopsided_Tomatillo27 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Coming forward to the police and the public, I think. As opposed to hiding the abuse to avoid the shame and emasculation it can invite.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So just taking the shame and emasculation to the dome then.

[–]HeadHigh71 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't doubt that he numbers are nearly the same for men and women, but the study was a very limited number of people. I think if we are going to doubt the validity of the 97% study of women and sexual assault (which I doubt), we can't put much stock into this study.

I pretty much adhere to the belief that a lot of the issues that humans face aren't gender specific issues. I'm not saying all, I'm saying a lot.

However, I do see that the violence against men is not looked at in a serious way by many people while it's damaging many men.

What do they define as sexual harassment though?

anything and everything they want, hence why its has no credibility, especially if you quote a figure of 97% which is a ridiculous figure to have otherwise the streets would never be safe for every woman in the country.

Im going to add that a study done in the US on mental health , politics etc which claims that of the 18-24 age group of women, 57% admit to having been told by their doctor that they have a mental health problem. you could of course say that it could be anything, but the percentage is way higher than any other age group( the range went all the ways up into 60s-90s) and the study included men as well who had a lower propensity across the ages , even in the same 18-24 group of women

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

lol , i remember that .

it took them 10 hours of footage to produce less than 10 mins of "harassment"

so thats the BS ive seen floating and quoted around the internet

BoredPanda is really lapping that one up

its doesn't take much common sense to see that its effectively claiming just about every woman you see around you experiences sexual harassment. these studies usually include vague and low bar definitions such as "looked at me with their eyes in particular way" or told me i was wrong etc

I just saw another article that had a larger number of people that might back this study up. If so, in willing to bet the number one reason women might be being more violent is the social acceptance of that violence.

I'm a woman and have always thought that violence is not the answer. I have also always thought that of a woman hits a man, she should expect to get hit back.

[–]rahsoft 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

willing to bet the number one reason women might be being more violent is the social acceptance of that violence.

i think that is possibly one of the reasons.

in late 2017 I had a talk with my local authorities social services about domestic violence in the city in which I reside. They told me that they had a chat with the local police about DV in the city. Police told them that the arrest rate for women perpetrating DV was three times as much as it was for men, and they believe that social acceptance of violence was an impetus for the womens violent behaviour eg social acceptance....

willing to bet the number one reason women might be being more violent is the social acceptance of that violence.

I actually just went back and had this discussion with my mother, as I was curious if I remembered the lessons from childhood correctly (I did);

If a man hits you, hit him back hard enough to ensure he never comes back for more,

and

never under any circumstances (including being hit) hit a woman

I call it the Pitbull and Chihuahua effect; Chihuahua's are actually more violent, but we tolerate it more, so they get away with it. We hold Pitbull's accountable.

Ok so this simply proves that you personally are not violent.

There have literally been hundreds of studies conducted over the past 40 years from all over the world that support the conclusion of this article.

Trouble is, these studies are seen as problematic as they refute and go against the mainstream narrative that domestic violence is a “gendered crime” and so rarely receive much media attention.

Women and men have always been battering each other since the dawn of time.

I don't think that if

a woman hits a man, she should expect to get hit back

Man should realize this is a good time to leave or try to cool the situation. Violence begets more violence. No one deserves to get hit. Eye for an eye just makes the whole world blind

[–]cabsmom2020 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a good point. I agree, but also think she shouldn't assume she's somehow worthy of a non-violent reaction.

[–]bludstone 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

what was the sample size? a few thousand people is usually good enough.

[–]cabsmom2020 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

I think it was a little under 1,200.

I rarely take statistics at face value. Why? Because we would need to know who they studied?

Were they all close in age? Were they all from the same region? What about educational level? What about what culture their parents grew up in?

There are so many factors that could make some statistics invalid.

That being said, I won't say this study is wrong. I will just say that I don't know if it's accurate. I do believe some women are violent. I also believe that some cultures are fine with that... which is very troubling.

[–]bludstone 12 points13 points14 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Okay so I used to do these types of things as part of my degree. you need a representational sample. You can do that with over a thousand people. Its absolutely possible. The selection of people should take into account age rages, regions, educational levels, and that sort of thing. (you should try for a truly random sampling, but you cant actually get that because you are stuck with "people who would bother replying to the survey")

You do yourself good by ignoring most social statistics. Id say over 90% of the time people blatantly misrepresent what the stats actual mean. Its not that they are inaccurate or have bad sampling, its that everyone uses it for their political pet cause and thats not what the information represents. (either that or the study itself is politically minded and you see THAT shit all the time)

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The study was conducted by female researchers. They admitted themselves that they were very surprised at the results. They said that it goes against the mainstream notion that DV is caused by the inherent patriarchal conditioning of men. They are in the process of conducting further research as a result of their findings. Let’s see what happens.

[–]bludstone 9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thats weird. When we studied DV statistics back in the 90s, it was readily known that lesbians have the most inclined to be physically violent in their relationships (That was worded improperly but im too lazy to word it correctly)

I'm surprised someone living within the science would think otherwise.

[–]DankVapours 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I'm glad it was counter to the "mainstream notion that DV is caused by the inherent patriarchal conditioning of men", because that sentence is criminally misleading in practically every word.

"Mainstream notion..." - No, I doubt that the majority of the population believe the rest of this crap. It is the agenda spouted by the vocal 'woke' minority and the media, but I'm yet to see a country wide survey of "do you believe men are inherently conditioned to be domestically violent?"

"Inherent patriarchal conditioning of men" - Where do we even start here? Perhaps with the statistically backed truth that individual experiences are around 4x as more important than societal billboarding in psychological development (see work by Robert Plomin). The effect of "inherent ... conditioning" of any type by societal campaigns is vastly overstated.

We all know the patriarchy as a concept is a pile of shit. "A male dominated hierarchy" when a modern feminist would struggle to clearly define what the hierarchy is based on, what "power" is in modern society that allows such domination, and would run screaming from examples of "matriarchy" (by their own definition of hierarchy not mine) that run counter to their narrative.

[–]rahsoft 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"mainstream notion that DV is caused by the inherent patriarchal conditioning of men", because that sentence is criminally misleading in practically every word.

I think the biggest issue here is that simply the "mainstream and activist DV industry is too biased in their thinking because they are looking for data to fit their thinking eg women victims, men bad especially when money/funding involved ( white ribbon in australia was an example of this).

the biggest obstacle to fixing the problem of dv is that many refuse to see it as an act perpetrated by one person upon another , in other words the act. instead, they make it a gendered issue( especially the media which is looking for clickbait)

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't disagree with you. Unfortunately the "woke" minority control the agenda of our politicians, the mainstream media, law enforcement, the criminal justice system etc. These institutions have long been taken over by radical feminist rhetoric.

Read the study.

[–]rahsoft 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

they studied a wide range of people from all backgrounds especially age, and regions, education etc.

I believe a number of participants came via support groups such as mankind( thats where i found it).

but you are right about it being a small sample size. I would think that its down to funding.

however there have been studies conducted from several parts of academia covering different regions. The results don't necessarily have be overwhelming accurate, but they do point to a pattern which I think they can use to justify a large study or at least areas that require further study and as a basis to challenge current attitudes and thinking toward domestic violence.

I can understand snapping after years of abuse towards the individual that wronged you. I can't understand demonizing a gender because an individual abused you.

I was mentally broken down by my exes mental abuse. I did snap at him.

[–]zeroicemaze 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same here with my ex gf I lost my temper after months of being gaslit stonewalled triangulated and cheated on, here's the point there trying to make its the mere fact that the statistics are showing that men are being abused more then woman but we don't talk about it since its not manly. I mean for a 6'2 decently fit young man myself was abused by a 5'2 female. I never once said a word about it. I mean who would believe me.

Yeah there's no real way to quantify emotional abuse as a man either. Nobody gives a fuck. You can't make an emotional statement on YouTube or to a judge or the police or anything. People will just shrug and ask you why you didn't leave her or whatever.

Try dating a borderline girl and see what it does to you. And unlike women who have backup men lapping at their heels ready to pick them up and carry them whenever they need them, men will find themselves isolated from everybody when it's happening and once it's all over.

Extend the legal definition of rape

The current legal definition of rape is penetration with a penis of the vagina, anus or mouth. This definition prevents victims of sexual acts, which did not involve a penis, or physical penetration, from receiving justice. This requirement is outdated and fails to accommodate for these individuals.

More details

We call on the Government to change the definition of rape to include all forms or sexual acts, even when it is non-penetrative and has not involved a penis.

I'm not saying it does but my original critique is the sample size of this study. I've shared all the links by internationally recognized orgs. If they are not enough for you I really can´t help with that. Unfortunately I must say you're all in this sub either in blatant cognitive dissonance or worse, willingly trying to distort facts which are clearly recognized by institutions of renown.

I've shared all the links by internationally recognized orgs

Which link compared women's experiences to men's, because none of them did.

You're definitely not serious to ask this question about women in Islamic countries:-)As I've said, I'm out of here.

[–]bufedad 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Can't be a serious question? Surely you've seen the comparison data to be so confident...so go ahead and provide it

[–]rahsoft 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

dont worry about that person, they've taken everything from the " internationally recognized orgs " as de facto without verifying.

and these "orgs" have a history of political agendas

Ive lived in theses countries and Ive seen better data( i used to be part of a Muslims women's rights NGO)

elf is attempting to make it one sided which as you pointed out is a feminist scam tactic

[–]rahsoft 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I would take studies done in islamic countries with a shoveful of salt.

the sharia system is well aware of domestic violence especially when it is perpetrated by wives or women ( look at which majority gender was assaulting their domestic workers) they just don't know how to deal with it.

It doesn't help that academia in the west tends to be bias and push their own narrative or use feminist organisation in the west to go in and tell the women that they are all oppressed.

Domestic violence happens plenty in Islamic countries of both gender, but even my own sharia lawyer had to point out that what happened to me is becoming common place as the sharia system is responding to accusations that they are oppressing women and they then give lenient sentencing or none at all to evade accusations..

oh.. it doesn't help that the "judges" in a sharia court have no legal training or education and are described as "men of religion, not law"

[–]EarthlingElf -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sir, I really have a different opinion on that but I don´t think discussing it with you will lead anywhere as we have opposing perspectives. Life is too short to lose with pointless arguments.

If you are so sure about your views, just keep them to your sub, which, by the way, I already left before you started sending me these insistent messages.

Rapists are often shown leniency or even acquitted in the Arab Region if they married their victims.

that came about because the men and women who were having an illicit relationship eg illegal would face prosecution, so one way some women could avoid punishment was to accuse their lovers of rape. But rape comes with a very heavy sentence( it used to be execution) , so then one way out of all of this was marriage...

I take studies from UNwomen with a pinch of salt since this was the same organisation that tried to force compulsory circumcision on all the men in an African country claiming it would solve the aids problem. They did this based on a report which said that the foreskin contains Langerhans cells which was a risk factor for aids, but at the same time the decided to keep quiet about the same report that said that the women genitals also contained the same Langerhans cells

[–]EarthlingElf -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I'm an intactivist myself but I don´t see any validity in your analogy. Please sir, do NOT send me ANY more messages: you're just being inconvenient with this absurd insistence.

and yet here you are stalking me one comment( note these are comments NOT messages- do try and learn the difference) to you and you think you are being followed have you got your tinfoil on standby?

and I notice you are treading a fine line with some of the stuff you are posting elsewhere so i suggest you be careful, lest the reddit admins look closer at you, especially with you are doing here. if you dont like someone opinion then I suggest you ignore it. if you cant accept that someone has a different opinion , then life will be very challenging for you. .. and brush up on your language comprehension, its sounds like you are either using google translate or you are trying to show off by using overcomplicated and irrelevant words

[–]EarthlingElf 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

"and yet here you are stalking me one comment"

Had I started sending you private messages that would certainly be stalking but I made one comment on a sub which I already left and warned you about it, making it clear I didn't want to carry on any discussion with you, as anyone reading this can see it clearly.

Nevertheless, in your pathological need for attention, you are adamant about continuing to send me these uninvited comments, i.e. to someone who has long left the sub. I'm just replying to what I get from you on my messages page.

Ad for the other accusation: "you are treading a fine line with some of the stuff you are posting elsewhere, specially with you are doing here" you mean with what I'm doing here, talking about awkward sentences ...:-) I really don't even want to know what you mean by this latest blunder.

"if you cant accept that someone has a different opinion , then life will be very challenging for you"

Again, that is YOUR pathological projection of your own flaw since I already told you again and again that I'm NOT interested in your absurd opinions but such is your insecurity that you nevertheless keep making comments on my continued requests for you to stop sending me anything whatsoever, call them whatever you please:-)

Now, one more annoying uninvited 'comment' and I'll block you.

[–]rahsoft 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

oh please do block me then maybe you get the message to GET LOST you crazy loser NOBODY give s a damm about your ignorant opinion

"I really don't even want to know what you mean by this latest blunder." you really have a poor grasp of the english language. so why dont you either learn properly or go away

and I have seen some of the stuff you have subscribed to which can be flagged( and will flag it if you continue to be abusive ) for hate speech..

you are the most ridiculous and childish person in all of reddit here is a HINT- stop messaging me and stop replying you idiot..

all of these " messages" are comments in the thread-"STUDY finds that women are "significantly" more likely to be verbally and physically abusive to men than vice versa"

are you really that uneducated to know how reddit works???????

do everyone a big favour by going away and learning how to be an adult. then maybe you can join reddit...

[–]EarthlingElf 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gee, pathological projections are really annoying. I take the chance to register all the pathological behavior like yours as good samples since you could have simply chosen not to comment on my continued request to not carry on any discussion whatsoever but your own insecurity makes you try to find excuses to go on with your pathological need to assure yourself.

"and I have seen some of the stuff you have subscribed to which can be flagged( and will flag it if you continue to be abusive ) for hate speech."

Oh, your sub is certainly hate speech, utterly misogynistic:-) Subscribing is something any redditor is entitled to, as far as I know.

Your comparison is as fallacious as your claims. Anyone in their sane mind knows that women and children are the worst victims of physical violence in most countries but especially in Islamic ones. This is not rocket science and your line of reasoning is so preposterous I really don´t want to engage in any more discussions with you. I thought this was a serious sub, I realize I was mistaken. Lol... except you can't find any fallacy in my claims or comparison.

Anyone in their sane mind knows that women and children are the worst victims of physical violence in most countries but especially in Islamic ones

And any sane person knows the earth is flat... science disputes both those statements.

[–]EarthlingElf 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

More preposterous claims but the good thing about the internet is that when we´re fed up with something we can simply disconnect, and that´s what I've done, but if you're one of those insecure guys who need to reassure yourself by insisting on pointless discussions I will have to block you. Please, don´t send me any more messages, I'm no interested in this sort of 'conversation'. I have far more important things to do.

As I said, you are one of those incredibly insecure people who need to assure themselves by repeating the same blunders and trying to push them on others no matter what.

I really don´t have time to lose with people like you, again, don´t send me any more messages and try to have the least maturity about your own opinions sparing others of your insecure insistence.

Oh sry didn’t know

[–]antifeminist3 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The biggest problem I see with abuse, is that women by their nature are more likely to complain about it. So the legislation making verbal abuse/coersion etc includes in domestic abuse legislation will still benefit women and not help men much.

Feminists raise awareness of domestic abuse against women and staff the abuse centres. Decades ago, abuse was ignored for both men and women. Today, because feminists raise awareness for women only, women are more likely to come forward. Even if men and women were equally likely to come forward, the fact that feminists/government/society only raise awareness for women means that women are more likely to come forward and men are less likely to come forward.

Feminists took a problem that was equally ignored for women and men, and by their discrimination created a system that only helps women, and then blame men by saying 'toxic masculinity causes men to not come forward'. By blaming men, feminists draw attention away from the problem they helped to create.

What should I look out for in terms of propaganda?

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Domestic violence is a “gendered crime” or the “overwhelming majority of victims are women and perpetrators are men”. Anything along those lines.

[–]GivePuppiesBazookas 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just the news in general, have you not noticed how much attention a story about a female gets vs male? Look when a female goes missing, it's all over the news, but boys go missing all the time, not even a blip on the radar.

What this is doing is painting a picture that women are the only victims and it gives no visibility to that men can be victims. Propaganda doesn't have to be direct, it tends to be a constant feed of a narrative. The western narrative is women victim bad, male victim gets crickets.

Look at MeToo for example, the media wanted you to believe Cosby and Harvey were the worst, it's all they talked about. But they were NOT the worst, Allison Mack was (Smallville Actor). She was nearly completely ignored. While Cosby and Harvey did fucking horrible things, Mack sold children for labor and to sex trades in a rather large operation and is looking at 20 years. Or how fast Terry Crews was swept under the rug. His story was news for about a day before they moved on. Louis CK abused his position asking women, adults, if he could masturbate in front of them, creepy as fuck, but how much attention did Katy Perry literally kissing a minor who did not want it, on live TV? Not a peep (and this was her 3rd instance of something along the lines of sexually harassing a male, and this was a 16 year old IIRC)

The propaganda isn't exactly putting men down or anything, it's the complete ignoring of men and the hyper focus on women when most issues are reasonably 50/50. It's teaching people that only women have problems and only men can cause problems. A current example is Desaun Watson, there is a sizable set of accusations against him, be it under some very odd circumstances with 22 women having the same attorney and taking this to civil court for money instead of criminal court, no one is giving him the slightest presumption of innocence for the most part. Mind you a day in court has not happened and this is civil, not criminal, there is no guilty verdict. But no one cares because they have been taught men rape, women are the victims, always listen to/believe the victims. I am not saying he should go unpunished if he did what he is accused of, but I am pointing out how the public views him based off nothing more than accusations (some of which are really fucking ridiculous, others seem very plausible), men do not get the presumption of innocence anymore when accused of anything by a woman, that's due to the onslaught of women are victims and showing so little of men's troubles leading people to believe men have it perfect or something.

[–]lexaril 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for the very detailed response - you've turned my mind around.

[–]emperor42 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think it really depends on how you classify abuse, if a woman hits a man and he doesn't take it as something bad, is it abuse? If a woman calls a man a jerk for no reason is it abuse even if he takes it as a joke? I think the nuance around this issue ends up being the big problem when studying this.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

According to mainstream society the answer is yes. It is always claimed that “woman may not know they are being abused” when the genders are flipped. So for equality’s sake the answer to your response should be yes too. (Not my opinion)

[–]CallOfReddit 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Belittling and shaming can be considered verbal abuse, even if it's not threatening on the short term

[–]Ziogatto 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[+]lexaril -6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think this is a good point, but the study still sharply deviates from the Office for National Statistics study, which placed women to be nearly twice as likely to have experienced domestic abuse.

[–]incisive_shadow55[S] 15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The ONS data is not a study. The numbers are taken from the annual Crime Survey and for the most part there is no way to actually verify the numbers. They have also acknowledged that men greatly under report in previous years.

The point is they don’t because they are generally too lazy and lack the physical prowess to do so. When it comes to hard work and grit it’s men who dominate in spades. Women thrive only when men make society comfortable enough for them to do so.
