We're overpopulated. You don't have a sense for how many people there are you don't see whats happening.

But it's still relevant, even if you don't see them.

People have been made believe there's situation a but there's actually situation b. They felt shame or guilt for being in situation b and now they realize they arent the only ones and it's not their fault.

What exactly are you basing this on? You have no knowledge of the context or circumstances that people got together in. You don't know how long they've been together or what they looked like when they got together just by seeing them in public.

I have no opinion on whether people are really looks-matched or not because I don't know enough of the population to say that they are. I don't think anyone does, for that matter.

If you could magically walk into a restaurant and read their minds it would reveal a lot of fucked up things, funny things, things that don't make sense and so on, things that actually tell you about an arguably "deeper" reality to these people and where you fit in it. Really, that's why a lot of us are here.

One might say everybody dates their looksmatch like a person might say a rainforest is just a collection of trees and animals. True, but I think it's an oversimplification masquerading as perspective.

There's an unseen dimension to these surface observations. Too bad we don't have omniscience, but stats, logic, studies, informal experiments and whatever else shine a light on certain things that people actually care about.

The fact that you see people dating their looks matches on the surface doesn't get to anything worthwhile, it's just a stand-alone fact worth putting aside until you need it to make sense of something.

It's not like most women have a choice, it's either slum with some beta or be forever alone because of a thing called monogamy

typically with people in their "looksmatch"

As someone here recently pointed out, since women rate most men as below average when you see two 5/10s together then it's NOT a looksmatch from the woman's perspective(and that's the only perspective that matters)

I care much more about what I, and my close friends, can realistically achieve within our own age group.

Go to a grocery store, go to a restaurant, go to any social environment that attracts a crowd. You know what you are going to see most of the time.

In my age group? The couples who are holding hands usually has the guy being a minimum of 5’10 while almost every dude shorter than me are always clearly single with no girl around.
I have actually been casually looking around, and I’ve probably found a single 5’6 or shorter guy holding hands with a girl in public in my age group.

That is what I have seen.

"They're dating each other" is just one aspect of the inquiry.

How does she treat him? How happy is she (goes without saying this will impact how happy he is)? Is she always working to suppress the desire to do better? How often does that balloon pop?

I almost never see men my height or shorter out and about, girlfriend or not, despite apparently being almost average height for the US. Makes me think they tend to avoid being in public because they’re ashamed of their height, like me.

Most men my age I see out with their partners are at least a full head taller than her.

Of course women are mated to their looksmatch. That's not debatable.

What people don't realize is that women who are stuck with their looksmatch wish they had better, and as a result of this they are not happy in their relationship. Women generally don't like being unable to secure commitment with men that are better than they are.

Looksmatch couples are extremely likely to degrade into dead bedrooms or duty/starfish sex in a hurry. And a disproportionately high percentage of these pairings won't last long either.

- 18-29 Females, 32% single

- 18-29 Males, 51% single

(Source: Pew Research)

51% of the young adult male population is single in the US. That's quite significant.

I mean, yeah of course, when you go outside you see couples all the time, which confirms those people are in a relationship of some sort.

You also see a tonne of people on their own all the time, but you don’t know if they’re single or not.

I don’t think stepping outside the front door tells you anything about anything really.

I think another thing that hasn't been brought up is that if you go out and look around yourself, you're only seeing those more extroverted people there. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself but a lot of younger people (mostly men) don't even go outside and do stuff anymore and instead just live in isolation.
Whenever I go out, I've literally never seen anyone under the age of 35 in a relationship, never seen a guy hitting on a girl, or any sort of romantic/sexual display at all a single time in public.

I see a lot of morbidly obese older folks with their morbidly obese spouses and that's about it.
Anecdotes are something, huh?
