Environment does.

If a man making 500k is in a room with average men he’s a superstar.

If he’s in a room with men making 10m, he’s a peon and nobody would give him attention.

It’s not about who the most attractive is, it’s about who the most attractive person available is.

That’s why a lot of guys complain, average women aren’t showing them love. Those women have 8s available so they select them.

Those average men go to Asian countries and get better dating prospects because they’re more unique in that environment, and fetishized a lot over there.

I know of two men who went to Japan, thought they were kings, the women hunted them down. Bred them. Got their mixed babies, and then left the men. White/black men get fetishized out there.

Context is everything for female sexuality (and to a much lesser degree male sexuality) . Hypergamy is contextual. She is always attracted to the best man in looks, status, game (alpha personality traits) she interacts with. If the pool of men she interacts with changes, so does the man she finds attractive. Her standards won't be the same when she has to choose from a pool of 10 guys in a party vs 500 guys in a club for example.

OLD is destructive for the SMP for exactly that reason. It gives women constant easy access to a MAGNITUDES larger pool of men that is easy to sort through. This makes hypergamy go haywire.

Status is also highly contextual. The top dog in a certain group might be another group's bitch .

Gender ratios follow the same logic.

If you live in a “college town” with lots of young people your age partying and getting drunk etc you will have more opportunity than in a small town where the only bar is the same one your dad drinks at.

Its also depends on what you are selling. Different cultures have different standards for beauty, behavior, manners...maybe what you have doesn’t sell in whatever yuppie hell you live in but it might sell like crazy in a different town, or state...

It's seems like it's pretty obvious culture plays a role. Women won't date or have sex with a man that is low on the social hierarchy. Be that because he's poor or has a socially unacceptable job or whatever other reason that may be.

But of course environment matters, but it's more to do with how well you in particular fit the norms of your culture.

Like someone from a gang neighborhood for example won't fit someone academically inclined and whose social skills are more in tuned with women who go to university. But he might be able to do well in a different setting.

It's about how your social skills/appearance matches with what the population around you values. I'm Asian and admittedly we aren't into the "rugged" look, while I've noticed women in New Zealand do. Accordingly my husband is half Asian and fits my original cultures beauty standards more than he might fit new zealand's . My younger sister, who has mostly raised in Nz, prefers people who fits nz beauty standards more.

Environment for sure does.

For example, people get obsessed about the number of a person’s height, without looking around them. A 5’6 guy is only short because he looks short compared to everyone around him. If he’s around other 5’6 guys he’s average height, and if he’s in a room with 5’3 guys he’s tall. It’s not the height that matters, it’s the height of all the other men in the room and that’s what women care about.

The difference is enormous.

I joined a college bike club right after college - there were a lot of girls in ot and they were attractive. Got nowhere. Had I known what I know now I probably could have gotten somewhere but it was rough.

I also joined a social dance scene. Waaaay different. I was very popular, dated / slept with several girls, if had known what I was doing and dodn't self-sabotage unknowingly it could have been 10x that. Well, I would have settled down with someone before 10x but you get the point about opportunity difference.

In dancing I was very popular and had no problem showing off, showing I had friends and other people liked me, etc. At one annoying point a line of girls formed to dance with me. In contrast, in the bike club I had no opportunity to show off anything and was seen as a kinda an outsider.

The difference is honestly somewhat redicilous.
