Some stereotypically "male" careers are great places to meet men who might lean a bit more traditional and are not around many women. For example: engineering, military.

I don’t think it’s about what job you have, rather how you present yourself in that job. I have met very feminine engineers and masculine daycare workers.

Any career can be feminine in my opinion. It’s all about how you present.

Nurses dress in scrubs which are typically practical and unflattering but many of them look sooooo feminine and pretty at work.

My cousin is very typically feminine and traditional and she was an army nurse for years - did two tours of Afghanistan. She’s a SAHM now her husband is deployed a bajillion miles away. I’ll also add that she managed to get a traditionalist man through working in this career.

Like i said, it’s all about how you present.

What do you mean by “stereotypically male career”?

I hold multiple leadership roles in my current gig, but would still be considered quite feminine by any of my colleagues. I agree with the other poster that you can be quite feminine in many different roles.

I work for the Church on a part time basis and am otherwise a homemaker, but used to be an engineer. I'd say your exact career has little to do with your femininity. The most important things are your attitude, personality, and general conduct. A rude and slobbish SAHM or secretary is nowhere near as feminine as an elegant and will turned-out bricklayer or binwoman.

I think any man put off by your "masculine" career is probably insecure, himself, assuming you retain your feminine traits. I would just caution you to consider how your career will work with a family, if that's what you ultimately want. Doctors make bank, but the field can be pretty intense and requires a lot of schooling. Teaching might be stressful and low paying, but the schedule is ideal with kids. If you want to stay home, skip the student loan debt. Otherwise, if you want to be a mechanic, go for it.

As for your other question, some stereotypically feminine careers would be teaching, administrative or non-profit work, and nursing.

I believe that traditional masculine men do not strive to be with a woman who is interested in any long-term career, except the one of a homemaker, wife and mother. Of course it depends on what type of man you are looking for. Men with very busy careers usually do not want a woman who also has a busy career, for obvious reasons.

That being said, less traditional men may not be put off by women in more masculine careers. On the contrary, they might find it attractive. It just depends on what type of men you are concerned about.

oh boy :( No career is gendered. Careers or job industries have certain attributes that cause more men or women to enter them…but it’s because of the societal roles we already play…

For example, more women than men are in education/daycare settings because women may have children of their own or women just naturally gravitate toward caring about children for biological reasons…Men are found at a higher frequency in Engineering; and this is almost proven to be because men are introduced to toys and stimuli that create problem solving thoughts and spatial awareness much earlier in life (more likely to play legos, video games, computer games, race cars),

if women and men were given the same set of toys and norms to follow form birth, i almost guarantee you there would be a near 50/50 split in fields like engineering or mathematics later in life.

all that being said, you shouldn’t build your career around what makes you dateable or desirable to the male. you should build you career around 2 things: how much money do you want or need? and what are you good at/enjoy doing? Those are literally the only two criteria that matter.

No man is going to meet a female engineer or mechanic and say damn I can’t date her because she doesn’t have a traditionally female job! lmao. Most men actually like when women have more similar interests to theirs as they have more in common to talk about.

end of the day: you need a job that makes money and makes you happy. what gender it best aligns with literally does not matter.

I used to build engines in a factory and still did my hair and makeup everyday. Any job can be feminine

I think the other comments do a good job of explaining how you can bring femininity into stereotypically masculine jobs. to answer, no I don’t think it would be off putting.

In terms of feminine careers. Stereotypically some would include being a nurse, teacher, childcare provider (daycare/nanny/preschool), secretary, working in retail.

Some others that I think get overlooked are things like interior design, graphic design - what I personally do and it makes me a very visual/aesthetic person which translates into other areas of my life.

I also think things like having an Etsy shop or small business or side hustle in a creative field lends itself to femininity. That being said, you have to have the skillset and I wouldn’t recommend doing this full time until you know it’s something you can be successful at.

Women are multifaceted. We can adjust our actions depending on our social situations. Yes , some careers are “traditionally masculine”. But your careers don’t define your femininity. At the work place , you need aspects of masculine energy to get shit done.

But guess what, we can switch our masculine and feminine energy when need be. Need to supervise a team to get a project done ? Use your masculine energy. Need to talk to your husband about something ? Feminine energy.

You can still be 100% feminine , but there’s also nothing wrong w utilizing masculine energy in the workplace. Feminine energy is needed in the workplace too obviously.

I work in Child Welfare where it’s 90% women. We HAVE to use masculine energy like providing direction , being stern , logical , straight forward , to get the cases moving. But feminine energy is needed to tend to the children and their traumas.

Any career that has to do with working with children - preschool teacher, elementary school teacher, pediatritian. Also, any kind of nurse.

So in my estimation it works like this. So if you want to become a housewife later, it‘s not that important to spend alot of time getting into the high earning ranks (everything high earning is male by the way).

Sth I would pay attention on is that it is sth which doesn‘t make you miserable because it affects your emotional availability for your guy and children and maybe if you prefer masculine or feminin collegues. (if your job has collegues maybe you prefer solo computer work or sth)

Regarding feminin career examples: Housekeeping, Eldercare, Nurse, Stewardess, Beauty Youtuber, secretary.

Nurse, veterinarian, teacher, administrative work, finance/accounting, and counseling/social work.

I don’t think it’d be off-putting but I do think men gravitate to women in stereotypical female careers because it shows a sense of caring for others. If you can still reflect this in a stereotypical male job or through volunteering, you’ll be fine.

I think I will have a fairly, at least moderately (as there is a strong intellectual and investigative part of it as well) feminine education. I study to become a psychologist with a masters degree in clinical psychology (haven't started my master's yet...) meaning psychotherapist. I think it's good in the sense that the work we have will affect how we behave. However beyond that it's just superficial. Having a "masculine" but shorter and well payed education enabling you to work 30% be at home 70% for a high pay is better than wage slaving in a feminine job.

I think everyone should be themselves. Being feminine is a basic set of traits and behaviours, and something you by virtue of being a woman are. The most cliche and extreme isn't what defines being a woman or feminine,. I have a high IQ, and a lot of things associated with that are seen as more masculine I suppose? Like logic. But I'm not denying who I am because of that. There is a variation within men and women which fully falls into the feminine range.

Don't focus on having a feminine career or hobbies for the sake of it. However, a lot of feminine jobs or hobbies promote feminine behaviours or skills that are useful in a relationship and motherhood - which is good.

I believe any career can be “feminine” if you bring feminine qualities and a feminine attitude to it! For example, I work for a VERY large pharmaceutical company in which I primarily have a desk job. I decorated my desk with photos of friends and family, I brought in cute organizers and a pink mousepad, and I have a communal snack drawer for my coworkers at my desk! I also provide candy every week, and I leave encouraging notes for coworkers each week. In addition to that, I try to exude feminine qualities at work. I listen, I’m caring, I’m understanding, and I almost always wear what makes me feel the most feminine which happens to be dresses and dainty jewelry. It is all about how you present yourself and your character in my opinion!!

I think whatever career you love and has meaning to you can be seen in a feminine light. I'm a caregiver for dementia patients and I train horses. I love both jobs and I am just recently working on my femininity.

I think some careers have a tendency to impact your personality.

For example, being an attorney. I know women attorney's, outside of the office and I wouldn't date them. They act like guys, I don't want to date a guy.

Not sure if they were like that from the start or the job impacted their personality.

Doctors arent' much better, they have to be controlling, I'm the boss, etc type of personality. albeit a bit more neutral than a lawyer, bedside manner,etc.

How do you turn that off when you walk out of the office ?
