My husband works in the casino industry with an annual income of about 45k. I went on maternity leave at 39 weeks pregnant with the intention of returning after 18 week (because I loved my job)…then the pandemic shut down my employer. We’ve since realized that we save so much money with me being home that it doesn’t make sense for me to go back to work elsewhere. We live very modestly, have 3-6 months expenses in savings, and our only debt is a car payment.

My husband was in the military when we married. I quit working (am a chemist/microbiologist) when I was pregnant with our first.

I returned to work when they were in preschool and since have returned home to stay. Things just didn’t work as well at home with both of us working.

I went to college on academic scholarships and had very small loans which I paid off before we had our first baby. His education was free with the GI bill. He’s a math teacher now going into the police academy.

My husband does blue collar work in a warehouse. He has been there 17 years and has worked his way up to being a manager. I stayed at home 100% for 8 years or so. I have a part time job now that the kids are a bit older and while we can do home renovations on one income it will take a lot longer that way. I plan to quit again once the house is complete :)

For a long time we did lots of sacrificing - lived in a one bedroom apartment for 3 years. Lived in a small 2 bedroom for another 2. Had only one car, no computer, no internet for a while (no eating out, etc). We only bought used clothes (I tend to still do that just because they grow out of them so fast). Relied on gifts for toys. Bought just the basics gender neutral and then used them for each kid as long as we could.

We have a real estate brokerage. I quit working the month before my oldest was born. When his business started to struggle and my younger daughter was born with some significant health issues, I started working again in real estate. I was moderately successful and my income did help. But our marriage was in a terrible state. I was exhausted. And my husband was super depressed. In a last ditch effort to save his business we sold everything. I quit working and went back to managing the kids and household on my own. Without having to worry about whose going to pick up the kids or what we are having for dinner every day, he was able to devote so much more energy into his work. Our income has tripled since I stopped working. I am so much more rested. My kids are happier. And the conflicts between my husband and I disappeared.

My husband is a software developer, I was in mortgages. We used my income to pay off all debt, 20% down on a house, and invested. I took my maternity leave with no intention of ever going back.

We were together almost 7 years before having children- not entirely the plan but so it goes. I would absolutely NOT go into debt to stay home. Delay having children until you're debt free, work part time, or nights, whatever. We delayed having children until we were financially rock solid so that I could always be home, if that path is an option, take it.

I learned A LOT about personal finance before our marriage. Learn how to invest wisely, learn how credit works, how mortgages work, live WAY below your means. We're millionaires and I'm only 35. It is so worth it to have children a little later and never worry about money again.

I’m Canadian. My husband is a automotive/hi Rail mechanic. I’ve been at home since January 2017. My first child was born March 2017. I was able to claim maternity leave for a year then I just never went back. I was a substitute teacher and never got a full time contract so it was pretty easy decision. I could go back to substituting any time but with only one kid in preschool (the other is two) it won’t be for a while and never full time.

My husband is a tenure-track professor for mechanical engineering. We're in a very low cost of living area and he makes 6 figures just recently, so we're very fortunate to not feel any strain for me to work (I previously was a cake decorator making a low hourly wage, but might consider starting up my own business from home once our kids are older and more independent)

My husband is a senior analyst in the healthcare field. He works in casinos on the weekend as a hobby job because he says he feels in much better spirits when he uses his free time productively instead of frittering it away on video games or something. We could get by on less money, but my support of his tenacious ambition is part of what makes him see me as a great wife.

I left my primary money making position not long after we got engaged, at his suggestion. I tried working full time again this past year to try and take some financial stress off of him and he HATED it. He said it dampened his productivity to have my support divided. Since I once again left the full time work world in July, he has gotten a raise at his day job and promotion at his weekend job. For our family, me focusing on the home empowers him to make more money.

He’s a computer scientist. I quit my job at 6 months pregnant and 25 years old. He makes ~125k including bonus in a medium cost of living area.

I had ~60k in loans (lol had no idea I wanted to stay home), he had none. The loans are paid off- we started living on his income and putting my entire salary towards the loans when we were engaged.

My husband is a app programmer, and I quit my job as a medical machine repair tech about 3 months before our boy was born. But my husband and I came into our marriage with zero debt, I went to community College and my husband has already worked off his student loans

Foreman, I quit my job as a school bus driver during Pandemic. We made the choice it’s better to stay home. We make enough to live comfortably, but would prefer to move out of the DC area. So expensive and low moral turpitude abound. I am returning to school myself in November to give me something to do as our kids are nearly grown.

SAHM since 2013, first child 2014. 5 kids now! My husband is a service technician and air force veteran, making roughly 35k yearly. I do not provide any side income, but I make sure to live simply and respect the money he makes by spending it wisely. I stopped working when my husband (of 3 years at the time) joined the military and we moved to another state, but we had always hoped he would be the sole provider someday. Edit: oh and we no longer have school loans or vehicle loans, just a few credit cards we are still paying off from vacations and house repairs.

My husband is an actuary who started making around 65k out of college. We married in our final year of school so I pushed to graduate early and never got a job out of college as we conceived on our wedding night and I moved across the country to be with him. We were 21 then, 23 now.

No loans, I worked through college/lived at home and he had a great scholarship. My parents did lend us some money so we could put 20% down on the house (any less and a lot of times you'll have to pay the bank an extra fee for awhile) but that was elective. We're still paying it back but we're able to comfortably live and still substantially save with husband's salary while doing so, so it isn't so bad.

Baby isn't very expensive when you have a large family and lean baby gift registry, breastfeed exclusively, and use cloth diapers. New clothes and toys are pretty much covered through birthday and Christmas. The money from the child tax credit more than covers baby's monthly expenses.
