I’ve had the same thoughts on prostitution for years, most men are not gonna go out and look to pay for sex but if it’s in their face and easy that’s another story.

For example Kevin is at a strip club in the back getting a lap dance. The stripper whispers in his ear “give me 200 dollars right now and I’ll fuck the shit out of you”. Kevin then proceeds to run to the ATM as fast Usain Bolt to get that cash. Kevin didn’t look or plan to pay for sex that night, it was just thrown in his face an opportunity with a hot girl. Honestly I don’t even think the girl has to be hot in most of these scenarios, just above average and willing. The typical prostitute in America is not some 9 or 10.

In the US it wont change a thing till the stigma is not there. Escorts(sex workers in general) and Johns are seen as 'scum' of the Earth by most.

I think there would only be a slight increase in men seeing an escort than now. The men that want to see them already do. There are escorts all over the US.

Doing a bit of homework you can easily see one without getting busted by LE.

Edit to add: Most escorts in the US want it decriminalized.

Like I said in another thread, it’s a revenge fantasy. They think legalizing prostitution is the last ditch effort to level the playing field. In reality, nothing will level the playing field. You can’t reconstruct biology with social changes. The amount of men seething in the other thread when I said this reveled that their true intentions in wanting to legalize prostitution isn’t just to get easy sex, it’s to teach women a “lesson”.

I don't think it would fix the dating market at all. I only think it would slightly help.

The average guy's only way to scratch that itch is genuine interest from a woman. And we all know how rare that can be. ESPECIALLY if the guy is "average" in 2021. At least he would have the option if it were legalized.

Pretty much every other aspect of sex is monetized between onlyfans, porn, exotic dancers, etc. Just about everything except actually having sex itself. It's kind of ridiculous if you think about it, lol.

Impacts of prostitution:

For people looking for serious LTR: absolutely NONE. You can't have an LTR with a prostitute. You can't make one your gf by paying her, only have her pretend to be one. You can pay her to go on dates with you or meet your parents, but she will never be a real gf. She will always be a paid hooker.

Impact on casual hook ups: for men who can get decent to hot women on tinder, it probably won't affect them much. They would probably try a prostitute a few times just for the experience, but they will probably still go for tinder/night club hook ups over a paid hooker cause it's easier on the wallet. For older richer men who don't have the time or effort to go clubbing with zoomers or scour tinder, or want a discreet affair where nobody finds out or whatever, a prostitute is ideal for this. For people who can't get tinder/night club hook ups but still want casual free no-strings sex with someone they don't know, prostitutes are perfect for this. yeah it hurts the wallet but they get what they're looking for.

So basically I don't think it affects the relationship dynamic, it only affects the casual hook up dynamic where men basically have an option to pay-to-win if they are losing through looks and personality alone.

That's because the discourse on here focusses on only one key pillar of TWO.

(1) legalise and regulate sex work AND (2) DESTIGMATISE sex work via media campaigns etc.

Only (1) will have no effect. However both (1) and (2) will be a SMP revolution that is actually to the benefit of both genders.

They should just legalize it. You will have a very dangerous society in the near future if they don’t. As women earn more, their standards go up meaning the average or even above average man won’t suffice for the average or even below average woman. So you will see more sexual violence and violence against the few men who qualify as a result of this new stratification. It’s been documented in the past as well. Societies in which the average men can’t start a family fail miserably after becoming extremely violent.

A lot of men here seem to have this unbreakable belief that the key to reducing women’s power in the sexual market place is to legalize prostitution.

I think the framing around the concept of legalization being the key is misleading. Would men still go see prostitutes if they are going to be heavily shamed for it or if they feel guilty or like a loser for doing it? I don't think they would.

It's really about normalization rather than legalization but the focus is on legalization because that's kind of one of the first step to normalization. *

Take porn(which is a form of prostitution imo) as an example. It has a massive impact on society nowadays because it's normalized and easy to access. Back when it was heavily frowned upon and harder to access, it really wasn't having that big of an impact on society even if it was legal. Normalization was the key, not legalization.

It needs to be legal in America so that the narratives around what constitutes consensual sex can become more realistic.

Most sex has some kind of transactional nature to it for most people.

Dishonesty about this has pushed enthusiastic, non-negotiated, sober consent as the only real way it happens, which puts women at an unfair advantage but also leads to them being disadvantaged.

It doesn’t take a woman’s personal choice away. Women often still handle sex in a transactional way, but are often oblivious and dishonest about how—not only to men, but themselves.

The current climate around consent discounts the role of using plausible deniability as a defense mechanism.

When she uses it and has sex she feels good about, or gets what she wants afterwards, it was just sex

If she uses it and doesn’t want to have sex, she can call the guy a creep, or say he tried to pressure her.

If she uses it & she doesn’t get what she wants after being seduced or seducing, she can say she was taken advantage of.

Sometimes, sex is something a woman does tired, wanting ti maintain her end of agreements, for validation, because she’s bored, because she likes the aggression, because she drank alcohol, desiring to see if it would make her horny enough to do it

I personally am not going to put myself alone with a woman with sexual intentions unless we’ve already talked about our sexual intentions & I’ve gotten pre-consent.

I require enthusiastic consent in my own life, but admitting the transactional nature of sexual for most people would be discussions around consent more honest & realistic.

I don’t think prostitution will fix the dating market and nor do I even want to use a prositute my main argument just has to do with cause and effect turns out illegalizing it does more societal harm than legalizing it. I do wish it didn’t exist though it is a economic drag and seems to be borderline useless and even in some aspects makes dating harder I have the same feelings about the porn industry btw

Its legal* here and hasn't changed much, but I think a study came out saying like one in five dudes had tried it or some other high number and a lot of women reacted with shock and disgust on local subreddits and boards. But our dating culture here is arguably the coldest in the nation(with stats showing women here right swipe at halt the average rate), and and the guys I've spoken to who are activley doing it regularly seem like they just kind of want a non frigid girlfriend experience and have the resources to pay for it.

*Nordic model rules. Legal to sell, illegal to buy. As such transactions tend to happen in cash.

I don’t think it would change very much at the end of the day. I’d remain barred from marriage or kids. It would be better than nothing, however. For those of us that females don’t care for, a scenario where they have to be nice and accommodating to you, would be a nice change of pace.

Prostitution is a partial solution to some problems. In my belief men evolved to want two things from women sex and validation. For whatever reason men evolved to largely need validation. It is why men hold up fish in their dating profiles. There are many cultures based around men being the breadwinner or bringing home the bacon. The idea that a home is the man's castle where he is king. Those ideas did not just come out of nowhere. They developed out of successful breeding traits and inner-tribal dynamics.

A man that was a provider for his family and tribe was probably able to successfully reproduce more than men that were not. The assumption is that women rewarded men for being successful at bringing in resources. Thousands of years of that and many men need validation for those genetic traits.

Prostitution can fill the sexual need and maybe at times help to alleviate that validation need.

Many men already seek out sex workers even when it is illegal. Making something illegal does not do much to lessen demand. Instead, it just creates criminals. Prostitution being illegal also tickles a lot of the same stimulation in the brain that hunting would.

The problem with prostitution is that not all men can afford it, especially on a regular basis. It does even the playing field a bit because it allows for an alternative to traditional relationships.

However, it is not a zero-sum game. Prostitution is a supplement to traditional relationships and not a replacement for traditional relationships. So to answer your question a man that is dating or married that can go visit a sex worker has far more leverage than a man that has no options besides looking for a traditional relationship. Many men don't see sex workers as cheating. Sex workers are paid "to go away". You don't have to warm up the engine. You don't have to ask. You don't have to resent the lack of effort or lack of initiation. There is often some degree of an illusion of passion. Prostitution probably saves some marriages from falling apart.

Women see a man as disgusting that sees sex workers but there are many many examples of very influential men getting sex workers at the lowest level...ie Robert Downey Jr and those are just the ones that are caught.

It allows men to know that they have options. There are married men who will see a sex worker before going on a business trip so that they don't cheat on their spouses. As much as that sounds like ridiculous mental gymnastics it really is interesting to see how men's minds work.

Once technology designs and executes on a reasonable looking and acting synthetic companion all of these issues will be mute. Most men will behave differently towards women when they know that they have a beautiful AI based woman that not only will be a physical release but also take care of most of the validation needs. Sex work is a really poor option for men. Synthetic companions will put sex workers out of business and wives out on the street
