Wife and I have talked about divorce and have a 7 and 5 year old. I have no idea how to behave or what to do on a daily basis, other than to shield my kids from as much negativity as possible. It’s so hard to fake the family dynamic right now. It’s so hard to look in my beautiful innocent little kids faces and think of upending their world. I see my wife on her phone after the kids go to bed - is she plotting the end of my life with a divorce lawyer? Is she trying to convince friends+family what a bad guy I am? Should I try and be pleasant with her, or ignore her? I am totally lost, sad, and feeling like I’m walking on eggshells ALL the time.

Meanwhile, I have to go about work and the daily routine and live with someone who is no longer in my corner. After the kids go to bed she’s too bitter and upset to have a civil conversation with. Honestly, I have never nor would ever harm my wife, but I (selfishly) fantasize about her getting hit by a bus or something so that I know my children will not be ripped away from me for any part of the week, or have to navigate 2 households. Would that be more traumatizing for my children than divorce at this age? Probably, but is my brain desperate for relief via some immediate fix.

Really, all I want is for civil dialogue and focus on our children and equal access as parents, but right now I feel forced to play “pretend happy family” while there is a potential snake slithering around and thinking of the best way to eat me.

I know I’m throwing out a lot of “what ifs” but if anyone has any advice on how to navigate these feelings of total vulnerability I would appreciate it. Thanks
