It is already difficult for fully fledged adults have to rebuild their lives after a war but those Ukranians will loose their opportunity to study, ie getting a good foundation to build their lives.

Also why do they not specify "males" I am pretty sure that female students can leave the country... Isn't just another attempt to hide male issues or am I mistaken ?

Although I fully support Ukraine in this war, I wouldn't say Ukraine is the good, peaceful and righteous country the reddit hivemind is convinced they are.

Russia has done a lot of fucked up shit, but somehow many people are in complete denial that Ukraine hasn't done any fucked up shit. I've heard of many foreign fighters being neglectfully sent in deep into Russian territory without much support, almost like canonfodder. There's a YouTuber called 'Civ Div' who was also part of a recon team that got sent a bit too deep into Russian territory with a lack of support and communication. He has a full first hand GoPro documentary on it.

This next bit I don't know if it's true, but I've heard Ukraine burns the bodies of foreign fighters to avoid bad press for negligence.

Then ofcourse we had a lot of sexism at the start of the war where every man that was trying to flee was humiliated with a rose and told "happy woman's day" and forced to fight in defence of the country. Sounds a bit like 'The White Feathers'.

Ofcourse, they discriminate by gender, but not by age, disability, education, or sickness. If you're born with a cock and balls, you get a free ticket to the Frontline.

Hope the war is over sooner, what a waste of life.

What Russia is doing is messed up, but before they invaded Ukraine, the media rightfully vilified Zelensky. Now he's an angel to them because it's the, "current thing."

My opinion hasn't changed on Zelensky though, I don't like him, nor do I have much respect for him.

I don't know what to think about centering the messaging around students. Men and boys have a right not to be locked in an open air concentration camp, regardless of whether they currently are or aren't students. But if it serves as a vehicle to force this issue into the news, then I can tolerate it. It's also worth mentioning that women have had total legal enfranchisement since the Soviet days, about a century.

It's not politically correct to say that Ukraine isn't a perfect country, but practically all men are forced to fight. Zelensky and Putin are awful leaders; Zelensky because he should have had Ukraine stay neutral, and Putin for his quest for oil/power.

Well, the reason why females are forced to serve is definitely not because they are more important in the process of producing a human. (objectification is no no). It is also definitely not because male are typically strong than females. (stereotype is also a big no no. females can do everything males can. females can even be strong than male in many cases!)

This is actually bad and oppressive for females because male made this rule. We are working on equality but it will most likely be resolved after was and then the same issue will rise again right before the next war. Fucking patriarchy... can never get rid of it... sigh

I have to say this is one of those instances that I understand the policy, although may not thoroughly agree with it. Ukraine is a fairly small country and needs to mobilize all of it's able citizens against the aggressor, so I understand where they're coming from.

Edit: I'm glad I triggered so many people by saying I did not agree with the policy. Understanding is different than agreeing, or perhaps you all need a dictionary.

Guys, I’m Ukrainian, and I can tell you that our concepts of gender are not like in the West. We do not have nearly the level of toxic feminism and “equality” of discourse as you.

Here there is still an idea of men and women being different and having concomitantly different responsibilities and standards of conduct. Men are supposed to protect women. Women are supposed to serve their family.

This sub can often lose sight of this and fall into the same trap as the feminists thinking that the sexes should be equal, identical, and indistinguishable. Stupid. The vast majority of Ukrainian men don’t give a shit about this, because they’re treated like men, not “toxic actors”, and they accept their manhood and live up to it in pride.

During the Vietnam war, college was an excuse to get out of the draft. Poor people couldn't afford to go to college, but the rich kids did to avoid war.

Not saying that drafts are ethical, but saying that students are exempt is even worse.

Guys. Really? This is WAR. Read a history book. Its a men's game and always has been. You get the women and children to safety, and the men stay. War is stressful. Men tend to process stress more efficiently than women. War is dangerous. Men tend to be less risk averse than women. War is a sacrifice. Seeing as how one man can impregnate several women but one woman will have a significantly harder time bearing several men's children this makes men infinitely more expendable. This is the result of 2 million years of human evolution. Letting your young men leave the country during wartime is just stupid, for any reason. And we are property! Not just men, women and children get social security numbers too. YOU'RE LITERALLY ISSUED A NUMERICAL ID AT BIRTH. For those who are wondering that's your real name. What are the alternatives anyway?
