In an open sexual market where women are fully free to choose, you'd expect to see both polygyny and polyandry in my opinion. The bottleneck for both is female preference, not male.

There are millions of sexually submissive men that would give anything for a dominant woman to choose them, and they would not mind sharing. But these women are much rather than the men that desire them.

Similarly, once you take away the material reasons that drove women into polygynous arrangements you actually end up with a much smaller percentage of highly hypergamous women willing to share.
