Seems like a made up weasel word to push misandry. Are you objectifying a plumber if you hire them to fix your sink. You aren't seeing them as a whole person, merely as a plumbing fixing object.

I'd need to hear them explain to me what objectification is, why it's bad and how it's different from other situations. I suspect there would be big holes in their explanation.

Women objectify themselves. Go to any gym, you will see 2 kinds of people. The ones who put on their cheap and comfortable rags and focus on training. The ones whose outfit is picked aiming at drawing attention. Flashy and fluorescent colours, tight or revealing in certain areas. Ask any men wearing a trimmed tank top and they will give you two reasons: muscles are built to be seen, having no cloth restraining movement helps with the training. The second one is bs, a plain loose t-shirt won't hinder anything. For women, they will give you any reason but the actual one. The only reason they spend extra on those booty shorts or leggings that hug their tights as close as possible, the only reason they train wearing only a sports bra on top instead of a t-shirt on top is because they want to be looked at. It's people objectifying themselves.

You can see a repeat of this behaviour everywhere. Wearing practically nothing just to get a tan at the beach, taking the top off to "not get tan lines" (sure, unless you plan on modelling naked, whoever is going to see you completely naked is yourself and your significant other who won't give two craps about your tan lines). During winter, wearing shirts with cleavage or stockings instead of thick and warm pants... I take cold showers and often swim at the beach (Atlantic ocean) during winter, I'm not particularly disturbed by cold weather or even by being cold, however, when it's really cold I'm wearing comfortable and warm clothes which cover my whole body except my face. Yet, I walk around the streets to see women looking like it's spring. Why, I wonder?

There has always been people like this, especially among women. That isn't novelty. What changed and is becoming worse and worse are the simps. Men without any self-respect or awareness who, due to desperation and lack of attention from the opposite sex, were led to believe that "we are all equal" so they treat women the same way they'd like to be treated by one. They do everything for them, agree with them on anything and are very aggressive towards anyone calling out this behaviour and trying to tell them it doesn't work the way they believe it, someday, will.

Men need voices to guide them away from this crap, especially youngsters.

Men are objectified all the time - and almost as often for similar "sexual objectification" as women are.

You'd probably never hear them admit it outside of their closest friend circles, but just look at how many women of the 90's and 00's that fawned over Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves. Look at how many women have lust in their eyes when they see Ryan Reynolds or Leo DiCaprio. Chris Hemsworth or Gerard Butler.

It doesn't just 'stop with' celebrities either; back a few years ago there was Hoda and Kathy from the Today show pretty much drooling over the male swimming athletes at the summer olympics. There's no shortage of other women who probably agreed with those Today show hosts - and likely only watched something like the Men's Volley Ball for gawking at the men's bodies.

So that's out - men can definitely be sexually objectified.

The irony ends up being that society in general turns a blind eye to it when it's men being objectified like that; there's no shortage of women who put the whole "6 figures, 6 inches, 6 feet" on their laundry list of requirements for dating - some go an extra mile and include a 6 pack - the argument that "men can't be objectified" falls apart here, because many people are doing just that.

That even includes objectifying what a man can provide - there's no shortage of the women over on FDS encouraging using men for their money to get a free meal out of dates; with the occasional "I won't settle for a man that doesn't pay for my rent and bills in full" being cheered on. The running theme here is that even if not a physically fit dude, you can still get objectified into an ATM for what you can provide.

The extra bit of frustration here with all of it, is that even suggesting that men can be objectified is so alien to their indoctrination and world view from feminism.

Their belief is that objectification is a victim-status; so saying men can be objectified is equivalent to saying men can be victims. And we all know how much feminism doesn't want to even admit that can be true.

So what ends up happening? They turn to the only other tactics they know - shame, insults, downvoting as a method to attempt to cancel you or your blatant observation of what happens. They already "lost" the fight, but they're going to go down fighting, and use every dirty trick in an attempt to discredit you and/or ruin your reputation - because those are the values feminism is built on, without any concern for objective truth, plain observation, etc.; feelings over facts.

The problem with that word is that it's followed the same course as so many other buzzwords. (Racist, nazi, fascist, misogynist, homophobic, hell even "trigger" if you wanna go back a decade) They've all been used so excessively that they have not just strayed from its original meaning but become absolutely useless as a word.

Women can objectified at times for there beauty and the fact they have a vagina which can be negative but they also benefit from objectification and have access to privileges in which men do not get because of this, so it’s kind of a double edged sword. First of all, I would argue that it IS slightly wrong that shows and video games have people(particuly women) that are sexually attractive, but that's not so much your fault as it is the companies selling or making these video games. They know that sex sells-that why they do it-they should instead just focus on making good-quality movies and video games instead of ones with girls in a bronze bikini and underwear, but I'm straying away from the point of the argument.

Second of all, you're not a misogynist for saying men are objectified. Misogyny as a word has been thrown around so much that it kinda lost all meaning to modern women, so as long as you just said "men are objectified" your not acting in a hateful way towards women(aka the definition of misogynic). eh regardless of what you think about the word, i think it's one people (including women) misunderstand a lot. its not just about looking at someone as an object for a specific purpose (like sexual or financial as op mentions) more broadly its about personhood and agency.

the feminist argument is that men are in general assumed to be subjects, agents with the ability to perform actions whereas women are lack such agency and instead are merely objects who have things done to them and like that's an entirely separate conversation and far more interesting imo

In all seriousness, I think the issue is that feminists (and now basically all of society) has redefined the word "objectify" to include anything they find offensive at the moment. As a Christian, I believe showing off one's body or lusting for another is wrong, but it is not about sexism- it is about morality, modesty, and commitment. Both genders drop the ball on those pretty bad, but I would say women do much worse. It's ironic that they are the ones complaining about these issues constantly when they are the biggest offenders of lowering the sexual moral standards.
