I don't expect my wife to wait for 30+ years for me. I wouldn't want that stigma following her and my child around. Leave me some money for expenses and move on with your life.

He was convicted of rape. Not accused and me-too'd, but convicted by a jury. That's not quite the same.

I would say that being convicted is the correct bar, as far as this sort of thing goes. When someone is convicted of being a rapist and put away for 30 years, that's basically it. She can't have a relationship with him while he's in prison. While it sucks that she is leaving him, and I'd prefer it if she'd obeyed her vows, I mean... was he married while this was taking place? If so, then divorce is the only right option (if a spouse has sex outside of the marriage then divorce is practically mandatory in my mind).

Even if the conviction is bullshit (and I don't know if it was or not, I wasn't in the courtroom and I haven't followed the case that close), society has said he is a rapist. If that happened to someone in my life, I'd distance myself from them too regardless of how I felt about the situation. I can't be known as the friend of a rapist, because that reflects poorly on me. Hell, a guy I knew in high school robbed his place of work when he found out his girlfriend was pregnant. I'd never even consider talking to him again. I can't know someone who does that shit.

I think a broader question to ask is how does this scenario “normally” play out for the common folk?

For couples in which one person gets sentenced to prison for decades is a divorce normal? It’s hard for me to judge her actions without placing it within this kind of context.

I'm just going to post this statement, instead of answering every post in this thread. I posted this as a woman leaving a guy immediately after a guilty decision, but almost everyone wanted to make it something else.

Masterson was convicted with no proof.. no rape kits, no toxicology reports, and no witnesses. The only thing the court had were three women, making an accusation. I would think if I was raped, I would at least tell one person after it occurred. When everyone blindly accepts that people can be accused with no proof, and found guilty, you're setting precedence for this to happen in more cases in the future.

The problem I see from a lot of comments here and in other threads on rape in this sub is that even a lot of people who proclaim to support men's rights have fallen hook, line and sinker for the feminist lie that every rapist is a violent, sex-hungry misogynist.

Actually, in a great many cases, particularly more recent cases since MeToo, the men were in a relationship (however long or short) with the woman, or they were having what the man considered to be fully consensual sex, but the woman involved woke up and decided the next day (or 20 years later) she'd changed her mind about it all. She can then reinterpret her story to suggest things like "glazed over eyes" (in the recent Brand case, as an example) as something that made her scared to say no at the time. Then all of a sudden it's officially non-consensual and becomes rape. A "little white lie" on her part about the consent, and still no sign of violence, but feminists pushing rape laws have convinced the general population that all rape is evil, preplanned violence. Hence they've managed to get it on a par with murder in terms of treatment of the suspects and punishments.

There's so much nuance in each case, they're all different and just seem to rely on the woman's interpretation of consent. But the push to make all "questionably-consented sex" seem as bad as murder disregards those facts. But I wouldn't, and certainly wouldn't disown a friend or family member just because they'd been "proven" in a court of law to be a "rapist". I really think society needs to take a step back and reassess the seriousness of the whole "rape thing".

I recently looked I not this and it's super fucked up. There was zero evidence. Originally they would not allow the prosecution to say he drugged them cuz there was zero proof. With the new judge later on it was allowed to just say it factually. A character essays asked from Ashton and Mila kunis. And because they where honest now they are facing heat. People are retarted.

It's one thing to be accused of, but once you're found guilty by a jury that's totally different. If I was locked up for decades, I wouldn't expect my wife to wait for me. I would assume she moved on with her life

I was once falsely accused of domestic violence, for writing a blog about my ex, from 250 miles away. Ultimately, the court went to extraordinary and unquestionably unconstitutional measures, merely to stop me from tarnishing her reputation. Although I do admit some corrective action was necessary, as I was distraught and arguably somewhat obsessed with injustices committed against me, correction should not have been punitive.
But most people, all they see is a ruling, and think of it as official, especially if that's convenient to their agenda. 'If that's what the government determined, it must be true.'
Or honestly, it might simply be pragmatic. I was in a lot of trouble after that. I had to deal with the ramifications, legally and financially. No one, other than my employers and a handful of friends, really wanted to deal with that, with me. Merely casting aspersions can kill any woman's empathy, or the collective empathy of all women. They think heuristically, and stigmatize, like anyone else, even if they decry the injustice of those same practices applied to them.
If someone you rely upon for services is going away for that long, then you would want to free yourself from contractual obligation to them, and eventually, seek a new provider, if those services were ever desired.
