HSV 1 or 2? you probably wouldn’t know anyways because men are often asymptomatic and they don’t test for it. If you plan on having sex with multiple people then you will probably not have symptoms and because you are asymptomatic you will have an ever so slightly less risk of passing it forward.

Just wear a condom, don’t kiss, don’t perform oral.

The chances of contracting genital herpes is very low for men. Certainly not 1.5%. The cdc calculates it at something like .5 to .8% I think and only 10% of uninfected men caught it from their infected partners after 1 year together.

For women it's a lot more risky but I'm not sure by how much.

I’ll go against the grain and say that it’s really no big deal. 80-90 percent of genital herpes carriers have zero symptoms and most of you already have it on your mouth anyway.

Not without precautions. Considering how prevalent STDs are these days among women in their youth due to soft harems, STD tests are absolutely a must. It's one thing for a woman or HVM to get an STD, but for most men getting an STD is just going to make your life even harder than it already is.

I’m going through a similar dilema. Been celibate since widowed but the thought of catching an STD at 54 keeps me from getting out there. Also, got my shingles vaccine this weekend. Was contemplating getting the monkey pox vaccine but after the hell the shingles vax put me through, no casual sex is worth it to me.

It's not the end of the world if you have herpes. Many more people have oral herpes, otherwise known as cold sores. They don't generally find it that big a deal.

Herpes is such a not-a-problem that most doctors don’t even test for it when you get an STD screening. Two thirds of the population or more have some sort of herpes. Also, most people who get it are asymptomatic and those who do get symptoms, it’s little red dots that can get a little itchy. Everyone gets little red itchy dots on their skin in the form of acne, ingrown hairs, etc.

Like, what lengths are you going to to never get any little red dots on your skin? Are you spending small fortunes on skincare products? Are you constantly monitoring yoir hair follicles for irregular growth patterns?

Okay so first of all, herpes isn't the end of the world. Tons of people have it, and they still have sex. It's not illegal unless you fail to inform someone you have herpes, and you can and should be asking your casual sex partners for test result anyhow. You should personally get regularly tested too. Being honest with what you want is always better than trying to conform in a way that won't satisfy you, especially if it involves others. People with herpes know when they're having flares and can be cognizant enough to warn their partners, it's about responsibility. Of course people can lie, falsify results, that's a risk even if you're dating, so frankly you need to be comfortable requesting STI tests in general.

It's not that bad. The first few breakouts are rough and then you have less and less with lower severity according to medical documentation I've red. There's medication to handle it anyway.
