If female hypergamy is real, how can elite women be in a relationship?

Easy:

Hypergamy refers to women preferring men who are above women in one or more meaningful metrics.

Also, once you reach the echelon of the super rich (ie those with “fuck you money”) the financial hypergamy ceases to be nearly as relevant.

Once 2 people have “fuck you money” there is little to no status bump for either party involved and thus Hypergamy becomes virtually irrelevant outside of superficial traits like looks and public perception as a “cute couple” etc.

But even for accounting for this, rarely if ever will you see a woman of means dating some broke artist or a barista whereas you’ll see men do this constantly.

Hell, you’ll often see rich men sponsor their girlfriend / wife’s pet projects like pursuing a singing “career” or art exhibitions.

I’ve not heard of a single rich / famous woman doing this for a man.

How many rich / famous, rich men do you hear about dating relatively anonymous women? A lot.

Hugh Jackman and Pierce Brosnan come to mind.

Rich / Famous women are almost invariably tied to either another rich / famous man or at least a “real estate mogul” or something.

It’s also important to remember that in the age of social media, looks is status.

So, a woman may make more than a male model, but will consider the fact that she can show him off as a form of a social upgrade.

This is basically what men have done forever, and it’s the one aspect of “hypergamy” men pursue - that is, the most physically attractive partner they can get.

However, average women more often stack the looks hypergamy with a myriad of other factors like income, social status, etc.

The worst part of all this is that men are still gaslit by women and society at large about this by being told that women’s love is altruistic and “sapiosexual” or whatever the fuck when in reality it is very utilitarian and practical.

The "need to be right" is strong with this post. You are using the top 0.000000001% of EXCEPTIONAL people to make rules for the rest.

Usually when talking about hypergamy, it's for 90%+ of people. You bring up the top echelon of people to represent the commoners.

The exception does NOT make the rule.

Hypergamy isn't about a woman having an ideal relationship

Hypergamy is her selective nature to pick or find a mate with two qualities:

survival-value and replication-value

more so what is commonly referred to as the dualistic mating-strategy(AF/BB)

However not every woman has the opportunity to maximize their Hypergamy, and this is a very important point people often miss

Good question. This all might come down to biological differences. Men on average aren't physically and psychologically built to carry and birth babies, breastfeed babies and take care of babies especially in the early stages when they are newborns. The woman you're describing will have to take time off work etc. for some time if she has kids, which will limit her earning potential, so perhaps that's why she might seek an even richer/higher status man than her. That being said, there are definitely a small minority of women who will opt for a hot stay at home dad.

Other reasons might be purely social and psychological. Women might feel inferior in social settings if they are accompanied by a man who is hot, but less competent and inferior to them in status and resources. Some women might also be craving "princess treatment", basically the man taking the lead and making the big decisions alleviating the woman of responsibility and stress, showering them with gifts etc., which is something that can't be done effectively if she is the one who is making the big bucks.

These are just my hypotheses though.

As to whether women at the top are doomed to not have an ideal relationships... well, newsflash, the vast majority of people are doomed to not have an ideal relationship. Only a tiny percentage of the population will end up with their 1st choice, thus making the vast majority of relationships not ideal by default.
