It's important to realize that confidence is necessary but not sufficient when it comes to navigating social situations.
It's going to take some mistakes before you can find your way. Kind of like what you experienced this time.
2
So, almost all the context is gone from this situation.
All of this is important information to figure out what exactly went wrong.
Let's look at the basic facts:
A
Something was going on with this girl when you walked up.
B
An opener could have directly referenced what was going on right then. This takes some basic observation and then you just directly talk about what you have observed as you say hi.
For example: you said they were having fun. That means they were doing something. You could have walked up and commented directly on what they were doing when you walked up and said hi.
C
To contrast, the whole cute compliment opener which just will not die (and really should), is an interruption and has nothing to do with what was going on when you walked up. It's all about the person delivering it and what they want.
Why would a stranger care what you want when they don't know you? Especially when you just interrupted them.
This makes the opener risky, especially for beginners who are just learning.
D
The truth about the cute compliment opener is that it is actually quite advanced and it is pretty cruel that people keep spreading the idea that it's good for beginners to start off with this.
You have to be advanced to sell this kind of opener and get people who just met you a split second ago to invest in that as the start of a conversation with someone they just met.
3
All of these sound like natural human reactions.
4
Why did she react that way in that situation? The wording is important. She probably doesn't act that way when everyone says hello.
But you are learning, and your delivery and approach was probably awkward. Which led to the results you got.
It's natural to have this reaction but the truth is that what you've already said in this incomplete account already gives enough information to explain why someone would have been put off.
And none of it has to do with your appearance.
5
Listen to yourself.... Why are you talking about the gym right now? Let's back the train way the fuck up.
What is seduction really? It's a form of social interaction. It requires social skills. You need to navigate through social interactions to get to things like sex or relationship.
Does lifting weights in the gym somehow teach you social skills to navigate social interactions?
Of course not.
So beating yourself up over not having social skills after spending time lifting weights in a gym, is like a kid being upset with himself that he doesn't know how to dance after taking math class.
EDIT:
6
I spoke on a variety of subjects, including how making mistakes is part of the process, and pointing out real issues with the opener used.
But so many people insist that a hard case newb with no social skills, will magically build up social skills by butting his head against the wall with shitty technique.
I remember either Owen Cook or Todd V coming out with a video a few years back on the topic of how Practice Makes Habit. Meaning that practice only makes perfect if you have some idea of what you're doing.
If someone has so little clue that merely opening someone during night game leads to them running and hiding, then clearly way too much is going wrong and some serious adjustments need to be made before repetition is going to be helpful.
Seriously people, consider what you're telling newbs to do here. It's irresponsible as fuck to advise people to just go keep doing exactly what they're doing, before establishing exactly WHAT they did (which almost no one in the thread attempted to do) and identifying areas for improvement before sending them off.

I'm a little unclear as to which part of my comment you were actually replying to.
2
People have different tastes.
Even if you take Megan Fox for example, some people are going to be into her and some will find her unattractive.
It's a matter of taste and tastes vary. End of story.
What matters is knowing what YOU are into and finding out the overlap among the people in that population who happen to be into you as well.
3
Gentle reminder to read the Rules, particularly Rule 7.
I didn't mind explaining, but this question has been debated ad nauseam and is pointless.
A lot of other mods here are just going to delete first without bothering. There are too many people beating this dead horse to death.
4
EDIT: I presented you with a prime example of how someone you considered to be a 10 doesn't inspire a consensus of every guy agreeing with you.
Your response was to immediately say there are no differences in preferences between people when I had literally demonstrated that to you if you bothered to read.
If you cannot conduct a conversation in good faith, then you're in the wrong subreddit.

Well, I would say that's not a lot of information. There are usually a lot of things you can observe in the situation at one time. So it wouldn't just be: They're laughing together. There would be other things like:
How they're laughing; maybe one of them is almost crying because they're laughing so hard. That's a good detail.
Maybe one of them is still trying to force words out while laughing. Those are things you could hear.
Maybe they're whispering quietly before the laughing starts.
Maybe one of them is laughing with food in their mouth.
Maybe there's something in the area that is clearly the reason that they're laughing.
People that are laughing or giggling amongst themselves: You can often see where they're looking at and sometimes that's connected to what they're laughing about.
There's usually a lot going on and if you hone your observation skills a lot more stuff will seem obvious to you than you might realize.
There was an observation exercise suggested by David Wygant in one of his older videos. He asked them to put on a movie, it doesn't matter which one, and pick like a 5 minute scene to observe.
Play the scene
After the scene is finished, put a pencil to paper and write down everything you can remember about what happened. What people were wearing, what they did, what they said, how they said things, how they did things. Where they were. Everything you can remember.
Then play the scene back. Take note of everything you missed in your description.
Rinse and repeat until you have a very thorough description of the scene.
It can be a fun way to brush up on your observation skills.
2
Couple things here:
This is probably just semantics, but the goal is not to try and "break in."
The whole point of getting better at observation is that you are all there in the same place at that moment, sharing an experience.
If you get good at observation, then it becomes easier to see when there is common ground you can relate to people on the experience you were already sharing with them.
So the idea is not that you are trying to break in, but that you are kind of showing people the common ground you already share.
3
So bringing it back to your original example, someone walking up to those two girls laughing to themselves, there are going to be two real world options:
You might observe that their body language is not open to people and perhaps you do not open them at all. Sometimes that's just the case.
Or you might observe one or two other things going on and have a little more to work with. Like you notice them noticing something which is prompting the laughter. In which case you could get in on the joke by making a comment about how you saw that thing too, etc.
4
An important thing to realize though is that there is no magic opener that makes people want to talk to you.
It's all kind of like fishing. You just drop a line and maybe they bite, and maybe they don't.
There's a huge difference between these two mindsets:
Making an observant and/or playful comment in passing, without necessarily expecting anything in particular, not even conversation. Like you really are just walking by unless they respond well.
Opening someone and planting yourself there, clearly expecting a conversation.
The first mindset demonstrates that concept of outcome independence that people are always talking about.
The second one demonstrates neediness.

Are you a local or foreign to Vietnam? You're going to have a slightly different optimal approach depending on what cultural background you are coming from.
2
Also, let's be clear about something:
Cold approach is often portrayed as a guy going to a public place and walking up to a girl and talking to her for a few minutes before going to the next one. This is a wildly limited view of the concept.
At its heart, cold approaching is simply starting a conversation with a stranger. You can do that in so many different situations than going to a public place and walking to girl after girl.
For example, there are a lot of regular social events happening in cities, that are hosted by social groups who post about these events on social media. It's pretty easy to search for events and find regular places to meet people.
