Talk to your doctor before going cold turkey on meds. Some should be tapered off, due to side effects from sudden withdrawal.

Also beware your depression will try to sneak in. Sometimes it will come back with ten fold strength. Stay strong. You need continous motivation and need to be constantly working on yourself. Cognitive behavior therapy based on mindfulness does wonders, and when mixed with meditation it is very powerful. What really changes a depressed mind is a change from inside out. A complete one. It might happen overnight or might take years. Keep working on yourself. Stay strong my friend.

I'm glad you were able to fight your way out. I believe everyone's capable, but the mental fortitude necessary, and the faith you have to put in yourself (good luck having faith in yourself when depressed, right?) to kick depression is staggering.

My own experiences with depression led me to write this in response to someone who was depressed and going through relationship issues.

Hope it gives you some inspiration.

Was on Paxil for a year to deal with generalized anxiety disorder. I'm off them altogether now and feeling good. Don't let the withdrawals scare you; they can be pretty intense for a while but things WILL get better.

Anybody who knocks antidepressants has either never suffered from anxiety/depression or just never found one that works for them. They're lifesavers.

My moms' been on anti-depressants for 5 years, she finally quit that and smoking at the same time. It's been a few weeks and she looks so much happier and healthier!

I don't think anyone would ever argue drugs don't change the way you feel. Let's just hope you have learned enough to not be dependent on a supply of foreign chemicals your body now is used to having around.

I'm on Zoloft, and I ran out for about 3 days....day 4 was the worst I have EVER felt in my life. Head zaps, couldn't focus, extremely emotional...it was ridiculous. Be careful, be VERY careful.

With all due respect, if you are taking meds and you are feeling better, how woudl that make sense to stop taking meds? You're feeling better, at least inpart, due to the drugs, right? So why stop taking them??

Congrats man! This is good stuff to hear. I only discovered Seddit yesterday. I had an epiphany when I started reading. Not just about girls, but a lot about how I've been having the wrong attitude about things. I feel like the people here know how to calibrate their attitude and thinking in a positive manner, and to be honest that quality is pretty rare these days.

I took citalopram for 1.5 years, withdrawal symptoms pretty non-existent when I quit. Just a little weird feeling for a couple of days. Honestly I can't say if it ever really helped me or not.

Took Zoloft for a month, it seemed to mess up my stomach, quit without any withdrawals.

Finally Effexor for three months... It didn't do anything... But the withdrawal symptoms were horrible, I threw up a couple of times and felt sicker than ever for two days. It was like bad hangover but worse.
