In my experience, your observations are correct. Not only is smelling good a way to boost your self confidence, but colognes/perfumes can also be used to continue a conversation if you get stuck with nothing to say. Complimenting someone on their cologne/perfume is a great compliment to give and receive. I get complimented a lot on the cologne I wear and it makes you feel good about yourself. I've been using L'HOMME PARFUM INTENSE from YSL and the deodorant as well but just L'HOMME spray cos they don't make intense deodorant. After shower every morning, or before going out in the evening, I spray it under armpits (that I shave) and make a cross on my chest from neck to belly button and from one shoulder to the other. I do it then cos the skin is still a bit wet and everything dries together. Then I dress up and put some perfume on neck and wrists. It's never too much and even male friends told me it smells super good and it's not like I've been bathing in it, plus all the ladies love it;luckily being pricey helps it not being super popular. I leave the house around 9AM and when I get back in the evening around 7PM I can still smell it. It's a bit expensive but it lasts long; the perfume is 90€ for 100ml and deodorant 30€. You can do a whole year with the perfume and deodorant about a season and an half. I use this for autumn and winter and for spring and summer I go for Le Male from Jean Paul Gautier, same perfume and deodorant.

Girl here, it's actually amazing when a guy smells good. It's a total turn on and you just want to be closer to smell them. People who don't use deodorant and cologne/perfume just tend to smell more on the negative side usually.

I like these colognes in the following order:

Azzaro Chrome - This shit is like crack. I swear there's pheromones in there.
Kenneth Cole Black - Response similar to Chrome, but to a lesser extent.
ZIRH - Very subtle smell (as are the ones listed above)

I like using body lotion myself. As I do spent a fair amount of time outdoors so it helps protect my skin, also the scent lasts longer and doesn't get covered up by other environmental factors.

I use twilight woods from Bed Bath and Beyond. They have so many others as well, and on the cheap.

use un scented deodorant and choose your cologne for yourself, with some feminine help if you like. There is no one cologne, different women prefer different scents and they mix with various body chemistry differently.

I am pretty obsessed with cologne I have about 20 different ones right now. My daily fragrance is polo blue, the ones I like most are Diesel Fuel for Life and Aqua Di Gio but so many people wear that stuff now I don't like too. Try unique fragrances and find what you like, usually if you like a smell so will women. Don't skimp on cologne the cheap stuff smells like chemicals.

Perfumes can be a very complex thing to get into to. First, there is all the chemical sides to it. Perfume X may not smell very good on you, just because it did on person Y.

Then it is the personal side to it. Easiest way is to simply get a masculine scent if you are a masculine person, vice versa. Combine this with what think smell good, and you got a match.

I recommend going to a perfume shop, talk to someone with a lot of experience. I know in paris they got a perfume bar, where you can take a personality test and they base the perfume on that. More expansive often times mean more quality. And quality is very important with perfumes.

TLDR: Get high quality, ask someone with experience, grab masculine perfume if you're masculine vice versa, personal taste.

I use Denali by old spice and I have Calvin Klein eternity. That being said my cologne is discovered not announced. I put one spray on the pulse point of my wrist, rub my wrists together and then apply to the pulse points of my neck. It accentuates my natural body smell and from the compliments I receive I smell really good.

There probably are more services like this, but before getting cologne/listening to recommendations online I really like to run a search for that on Fragrantica to at least get an idea of what that smell is going to be like - they give similar stuff suggestions and all.

As for myself, Chanel's Allure Homme Sport has sure gotten me compliments.

Pro tip, use Dolce &Gabana eu de toilet. My cousin is a ladies man and gave it to me one Christmas. He told me to always use it before going to a bar or party. I never used it in high school, but decided to try it in college. Holy hell did it work. Almost every girl I would hug or get close to would comment on how good I smelled. But the thing was, you could tell in their eyes that they didn't just think it smelled nice, they were physically turned on. I don't normally give my secrets out, but this one definitely works

Curve for men is by far the most likeable cologne I've found. We can sit here and argue all day about the best and worst of colognes, but it got to the point in my life where I was annoyed with compliments on my scent. My high school history teacher got curve after having me as a student (but it's ok because he's awesome). Curve isn't necessarily the best smelling cologne, but nobody, NOBODY, ever says anything bad about curve. If you're starting out on your scent collection, or if you've been needing that solid fallback scent, get curve. Just get it.

Tl;dr: stop being a dumbass and get curve, it's cheap and by far the most versatile scent you can get

Hell yeah, I dish out about $80 on some good quality cologne about every two months. It's pricey but last you for a good amount of time. I recommend going to your local Perfume shop or a Macy's and buying some cologne asap. The cologne I've gotten the most compliments on (if you smell good girls will often point it out) is Aqva by Bvlgari. It's only about $50 online and will last you about a month and a half.

i mean, it's possible that i just smell unusually good. but, i think it's more likely that humans usually smell okay, and the whole "you smell bad" thing is a marketing tactic to make people feel bad and buy more deodorant and perfume.

I can recommend "Hugo Boss Bottle" and "Paco Rabanne Invictus" aswell, rather Invictus because Hugo Boss is more common which makes it less noticeable/attractive in my opinion.

Anyway, you should check out a perfumery in your city to test some cologne and if you got one, buy it from the internet since its cheaper there. And always invest in the bigger bottle since it's way cheaper (bulk discount).
