Herpes and HPV have been around for thousands of years in humans. Unlike HIV which cause AIDS, it's not a straightforward death sentence. HPV can affect the cervix if one's immune system doesn't clear it up. If the cervix is affected then it can cervical dysplasia which then can cause cancer.

People were upset about anti maskers during covid but this is far worse since it is basically the equivalent of spitting in someone’s face as opposed to an accidental spread.

Bad comparison.

Consentually spitting in the face of someone who said you could, knowing they could get sick is not the same as strangers on a train sneezing in your face without your permission/ ability to abstain from being sneezed upon.

If everyone got married young and stayed monogamously together for life, there'd be a lot less STDs.

But that's not realistic in modern Western society.

The average American male and female lose their virginity at 17. By the 20-24 age range, only about 12% of American women and 14% of American men are still virgins.

But the average age for marriage is about 28 for women and 30 for men. So there's a 10 year or more gap between people losing their virginity and getting married.

That means the average American or Western man is unlikely to be able to find a young virginal woman to marry and be monogamous with for life.

In general, young women just want to have fun, bang older married men, bang guys who are promiscuous, etc. Virgin nice guy types are laughed at and rejected by young women.

That means that a man who doesn't have premarital sex when he is young is likely to have to wait until he's in his 30s and earning decent money to find a woman of "appropriate age" to settle down with. This woman would have been having premarital sex with other men since her teens. Or maybe she'll be divorced. So she may have STDs and maybe kids from past relationships.

In other words, OP's argument may make sense, but it doesn't work in modern Western society because there's no young virgin women available to the average man.

Hey guy, you’ve been fearmongered. STIs are not that much of a threat. Almost all are curable and the ones that aren’t are treatable. It’s pretty unlikely you’ll get an infection if you are using condoms properly. And what exactly does pre marital sex have to do with it? People can’t fuck anyone but their spouse once they get married?

People do things which carry risks of infections and it is important to have strong public health services which meet people where they are.

I would include the anti vaxxer types were it not for behaviours like believing in right wing conspiracies, junk science, storming fucking covid testing sites etc.

Just someone being a bit ditzy and not wearing a mask isn't why there's a backlash there.

Plus, the main reason STDs are the problems they are is because studying solutions to them is considered a bad thing. We could just study the diseases and get rid of them. Most of them aren't even that big a deal.

lol. Ever heard about STD/STI tests, about using condoms, about not sleeping with just anybody?

Never had an STD/STI in my life, despite having around 100 sexual partners to date.

My wife has an even higher number of sexual partners, and again never had an STD/STI.

We are both recently tested and have had many many tests over the years, and we have both always used condoms, except a handful of people each.

We also got married 3 years after our relationship started.

Marriage has nothing to do with spreading STD/STI, especially not when around 50% of men and women cheat at least once, and most of those people cheat more than once.

It’s called safe sex, you make sure to use a condom, and get regular tests.

By the way over 60% of people in the US have herpes, so good luck with not catching it, even if you do post marital sex only.

It's a good thing we invented condoms, isn't it? They're like masks for your penis. You're actually more likely to get an STD in a monogamous relationship as people are less careful, often removing barrier methods without both getting tested. And obviously marriage wouldn't change anything about how likely you are to get a disease compared to a non-married monogamous relationship because it's just a legal/social status.
