I'm (37M) struggling with a recurring issue in my marriage (8 years long) and could really use some advice. Whenever my wife (37F) gets angry, she often resorts to yelling and making extreme false accusations like "You want me to suffer!" or "You want to kill me!" These statements are completely untrue and come out of nowhere, leaving me feeling hurt, confused, and unsure how to respond.

For context, I've never hit her or any woman, and I absolutely do not want her to suffer. I always try to take care of her by cooking, making her coffee for work, and doing what I can to make her life easier. On the contrary, when I was recovering from a leg injury and couldn't walk, she got mad and refused to make me food, leaving me to fend for myself.

These false accusations only come up in the heat of the moment during some sort of disagreement, and sometimes she even makes these statements when we are in public.

I don't know how to handle these situations without escalating the conflict or invalidating her feelings. Has anyone else dealt with something similar? How do you cope with extreme accusations from a loved one, and what strategies have worked for you to address the underlying issues?

Also when she starts yelling it makes me super stressed. I already have anxiety and depression and when she yells at me it makes my anxiety shoot up to the roof. To the point I cannot think clear and everything feels fuzzy and I feel scared, confused and extremally stressed.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
