I sincerely, sincerely hope people are giving her the advice to end this relationship immediately and to seek therapy if needed. She’s 20 and is still so young, and she could very well not understand the severity of what truly happened to her. I have a friend who went through something very similar in college, and it took her years (and lots of therapy) to accept that she had actually been raped by someone she knew and let into her home.

So often these experiences result in the woman placing an unfair amount of internalized guilt on themselves because it happened with someone they cared about (“he would never do that to me”), or they “accepted” or just didn’t outwardly reject the advance initially (more likely, heavily coerced into it). Society continues to place the burden on the woman to make it clear that it’s a “no” (even though we sadly all know that doesn’t prevent it sometimes) when, in reality, it should be on the man to ENSURE it’s a “yes” THROUGHOUT.
