This is a paradox that puzzles me. Sex is thrown around as the end all to everything: it’s healthy, it releases stress, it’s a basic fundamental need blahblahblah. The thing is, modern humans have an unnatural amount of sex courtesy of birth control. Without birth control sex would have consequences: pregnancy. Our ancestors had far less recreational sex because of this. If they did the deed frequently they’d either do it while pregnant, or end up pregnant.

Now here’s another issue. How can sex supposedly benefit women when birth control itself comes with a host of nasty side effects? I’m primarily talking about hormonal birth control, but other methods such as IUDs can still have serious consequences. The depression, the weight gain, the potential for blood clots.... how can the supposed benefits of sex out-weight these health issues? It seems to me that once again MEN are the ones primarily benefitting from frequent sex.

What do you ladies think?
