and this is exactly why i don’t feel comfortable wearing leggings to school. cause men sexualize every fucking thing.

I hear you sis but I've gone in the opposite direction recently. What I mean is, I used to be so bashful about guys sexualising me, I used to hide away in how I dressed and how I acted. At some point along the way I ended up...not caring? I started embracing my femininity, dressing really well and looking womanly. If I didn't feel like dressing up I didn't either. I just became more comfortable in my skin because I realised I was fed up of living my life according to the shame brought upon me by the male gaze.

I 100% agree now that I’m out of college, have a job, and would be more open to meeting someone while out and about. However, when I was in college and walking to class or the library, literally the last thing I wanted was to be bothered by someone trying to flirt with me. There are endless opportunities to meet someone on campus if you’re open to it. However, there were times where it would distract me from my studies and I’d get annoyed, so if avoiding a certain type of outfit meant I’d have peace and quiet studying alone in the library, then that’s what I did.
I’m not saying having to dress around avoiding those interactions is right. Women should always be free to wear what they want and not be bothered for it. But sadly, my campus wasn’t like that.

Fair enough and I completely understand. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

Men will sexualize a slice of bread unfortunately, let’s be honest. It sucks
[–]pinkamena_pieFDS Newbie10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think that’s called being pansexual

Literal spit take. Well done.
[–][deleted] 51 points52 points53 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
They’ll do that even if you have an astronaut suit on. Wear whatever you want.
[–]Eldest_MuseFDS Newbie21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is so true. I have face masks that sit just under my lower lash line and cover my chin. I haven't dyed my hair since the pandemic and wear it in a bun as well as not wearing makeup anymore. Why waste it if my face is covered? I have put on the "Covid 19" (the 19 pounds we put on during the pandemic lol!) and yet I still get approached and hit on almost daily. Do whatever you want because men will do whatever they want. Don't let them dictate how you live your life.

There’s studies that show the impact of young women self-objectifying themselves has on their performance in school. The more revealing their clothing, the more self aware they are of their bodies, the more concerned they are with how they appear to men and pre-occupied they are, the worse they perform academically. Kind of shows the political aspect of objectifying women imo.
[–]Proud-PurposeFDS Apprentice117 points118 points119 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
There's a reason why girls perform better academically in sex segregated schools, while the reverse is true for boys.
[–]pinkamena_pieFDS Newbie35 points36 points37 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Girls are good for people, and boys are bad for people. Can’t say I’m shocked.
[–]Proud-PurposeFDS Apprentice30 points31 points32 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think the funniest part is that boys are terrible for other boys.

too busy studying for an anatomy final to shower for two days or brush my hair random scrote: you would be so pretty if you took care of yourself. Yeah sorry I was too busy getting an A in one of the hardest classes to take in college.

Every story I read makes me so happy I was an older student in my 30s. Jesus, I'd get kicked out of the library for laughing at him. But I literally have not gotten hit on since my second kid was born (although a pleasant young marine in my exhusband's battalion offered me his number while I was pregnant 🙄). Thank God.
[–]Deadgirl1888FDS Newbie49 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I was 28 when this happened lol so a good 8 to 10 years older than the scrote making the comment lol I'm supposed to be post wall so not sure why it happened hahaha.
[–]LevelTurbulentFDS Newbie9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm starting to wish the wall bullshit was true but I don't think it is. I still get creepy come ons and I'll be 40 this month. As much as they claim to hate women my age, I still get a lot of unwanted interest.

I would be livid. I knew that men thought this way about us (especially felt that in college when guys would ignore me bc I didn't care to dress up for them), but I didn't realize some actually spoke out loud about it to our faces.

Yes Queen! I am just loving this younger gen coming out with this strength. Women have come so far in terms of having more choices, being able to work, not rely on a man, and to vote. But with the cool girls and lib fems those “choices” are being shaped into being a perpetuate sex doll for men. Oh but as long as you get paid $4.50 for s subscription it’s ok right? This is the mindset and movement that worries me for the future of women...
Then a Queen like this comes along and restores my faith again. You can just hear all the little boys tapping away trying to slide into our DMs “bu bu but biology! Cats! Old maid! Cope!” Watching g their brains break is entertaining (and of course I don’t mean the good men. The good men will agree with this meme wholeheartedly). I’m talking about the insecure man-children who thinks a woman’s only value is in how she looks.

I've been wearing sweats and a t-shirt to class since 8th grade because even then I knew: if I'm gonna have to be miserable, at least I can be comfortable. And I will never change that tradition.
[–]sjefsiljuuusFDS Newbie15 points16 points17 points 5 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
In my opinion, I experienced that when I wore more sweats in class or in general, those were situations I was more confident with myself. When I was a teenager (now 23), I used to always dress myself elegant, classy and pretty because I wanted to impress boys. Now I dress myself pretty, elegant and classy so I can feel good with my self. Confidence is the thing that is really attractive, I dont have to spend thousands of dollars for some dudes that might like to enjoy see me with nice clothes. I only buy myself nice clothes if I want them and if only I feel good in them. If my boyfriend likes them, I only find that as a bonus, but its not something that is a requirement for me to get nice clothes.
And to add, to wear tight jeans all the time and tight tops / sweaters is just painful, sweats are lovely to wear and comfy. I feel the phrase «dress to impress» is most for girls / women that have to dress nice with the intend to impress boys / men. I dont know if you feel the same way, its just something I have thought about and it kinda bothers me.
EDIT (typos and to add): after I got raped, I used sweats to cover my body and to hide it, scared to get sexualized. Then I went to therapy, and got more confident with myself. Now I have sweats that are comfy, but not too big so it covers my body. I now have a lot of clothes to embrace my feminity and to basically show people «I dont need men to sexualize my body to enjoy wearing this, f’off».

And girls don’t like it when men think we give a shit about their entitled opinions on how strangers should dress.

I’ve had a TEACHER say this to me. Talking about how his college female students weren’t dressing up enough. Edit: We were talking on a dating app.

the funny thing is, when girls do dress up, then teachers tell then to dress down because "YoU'rE dIsTrAcTing tHe BoYs! OuR pReCiOus bOySsSs” so we can't win. ladies, let's just live our lives xo
[–]biscuitbutt11FDS Newbie9 points10 points11 points 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Not to mention when you do get dressed up then you have a ton of guys staring at you, which is always uncomfortable. Women “dress down” because it’s safer.

I went to class dressed to the nines and with a full face on almost every day because that's who I am and what I like. It's a huge stress reliever for me.
I got so much crap for it. "Guys like Natural girls." "Just keep it simple and classic. Guys don't like those patterned leggings."
Fuck. Off.
I met my current boyfriend wearing it ALL. He introduced himself to ME. He is my #1 supporter in all things fashion and makeup. He's bought me wigs.
I can't believe I used to do anything but laugh at those pathetic people who used to try to drag me down to their level.

Ladies don’t give a f what Mike has to say, but why would anyone wear sweats every day? It takes the same amount of time to put on pants. Level up and do better for yourself
