Two common red pill beliefs are that women like assholes, and women like rich guys. Both of these beliefs are not entirely without merit, but I think the reasons why are different from what your typical red piller or incel thinks, and I'm going to elaborate on the latter belief.

Yes, it's true that if a guy is making bank, they're probably going to attract a greater variety of women. And a minority of these women will be gold diggers. But these gold diggers don't really like the man, they only like their money, and they represent only a relatively small fraction of the women who date and marry moneyed men.

The real reason, I think that women like men who make good money is because what making money implies about a man's character. Winning the lottery, lucking out on cryptocurrency or some other speculative investment, or inheriting your parents' money isn't going to make a guy sexier. It may attract a few gold diggers but no additional quality women than if that guy was still broke.

One of the causes of Elliott Rodger's rage was that he erroneously believed that his inherited wealth would make him irresistible to women, when in reality he was a boring narcissist that lacked the sexy qualities that men who earn their own money tend to have.

I don't mean to sound like a right wing "rich people are superior" apologist, but people who earn large incomes tend to be intelligent, hard working, disciplined and in control of their impulses, have good social skills (engineers may often be an exception to this), and usually are interesting people with hobbies. These are all things that women like. People who make lower incomes can be all of these things as well, but making good money is a good indicator that these qualities are present in a man.

If you make good money at your job, but somehow you're still boring and rarely do anything interesting, you blow considerable sums on your money on alcohol and drugs, you cut corners and get away with it, you dress like a slob, and you lack grace and tact, most women are going to think of you as a creep, even with your money. The few women who will be drawn to you are women with very low standards (and likely self esteem issues) who would probably still be there if you made minimum wage or collected welfare and women who pretend to like you in order to access your bank account.

In a nutshell, I don't think it's so much that money makes a man sexy but rather that sexy men are often good at making money, and having money gives women the impression that a man probably possesses those qualities.

This is why guys who live in shitty apartments and work dead end jobs can still attract quality women, as long as they aren't boring or creepy. While meanwhile tons of loaded but socially inept engineers in Silicon Valley hire prostitutes and end up marrying poor women from the Philippines who really just want to be with them for convenience in a lot of cases.
