A lot of people, myself included, do not want children. Check out r/antinatalism check out r/childfree . A lot of people that have children don't want them. Check out "I Regret Having Children" on Facebook. Google "I hate parenting", "I hate my son/ daughter". Do you know how often people murder their kids? Murder by parent is the LEADING cause of death for children under 9. Research safe haven laws. Hopefully you'll find the news articles about what happened when one state removed age restrictions on people abandoning their kids to the state- people were driving 100s of miles to cross state borders and hand teenagers over to hospitals and fire stations. Having and rearing young people is not the Disney fairy tale you think it is. i can think of a few hundred better things to do with my life

It's weird that you assume all men want children. I have been firmly against it since before I had political opinions of my own, and I grew up in very conservative household.

If you want more men to have children then you need to make it more economically viable to do so. But at the end of the day, plenty of us will still choose not to have children because that is what we want.

The interesting thing is that studies like these never point out the fact that some men do not want any children at all. Hell, for all we know they might have had a women in the past.

And we go even deeper on this issue; Gen-X were spoiled to the point where a lot of them became too self-centered to have children. Obviously this does not apply to everyone - and good riddance for that, but I'm willing to bet that at least 10% of these individuals should be in "don't want kids" category.

And yea, there are more factors in play here such as for instance economics, since children are a heck of an investment. If a man is below a certain socioeconomic standard - and he has a head on his shoulders, then he won't have children simply because he can't provide for them. Not to mention the fact that he will face issues finding a second half.

Question is, is it a good thing that economics serve as a roadblock to population growth? 320million people is a huge population after all - is there really a need to have more? - Outside of our flawed economical system that dictates population growth in order to provide for the old people (shouldn't be more old than young).

The American economy has to do a better job providing for middle class men in order to encourage them to want to pay for children. Right now, most children are either accidents from the lower class or the children of the rich.

I think at some point, a lot of women are going to have to realize how they are impacting all of this. If they cannot articulate why, I assume they are part of the problem.

This is almost always by choice. Only the ugliest, most socially awkward, no status rejects can't have kids. For men, however, the choice to have children is something they have power in. Women decide who is important enough to be a casual sex partner, they can be choosy.

For men, children is a long term goal, that they can have into their 70s. And so the terms and conditions have to be right. Even a median man can be choosy. Even if it is nice guys finish last.

Post modern women are looking for Mr. Right, and these men are looking for the right "wife" who isn't materializing. Jury is out on long term outlook for childless men and women. But either way, men get a long time to make it happen, so I'm skeptical on it being an issue of capability.

Just check out the recent TRP post I made plucked from the askreddit thread about old guys with young wives. Plenty of young dumb women will have children with 60 or 70 year old men.

And it's sad that so many fall for the propaganda that ending up alone is a failure and the road to sadness. It isn't.

Happiness comes from within and no other people will fill the gaps in your life, no matter how much Hollywood and female magazines tell you the contrary.

Are they childless by choice or involuntary childless? Most American men who end up involuntary childless do so because they spend a lot of their youth in prison.
