Why do so many women oppose feminism?

A big reason why is because feminism (and a lot of other social movements which I won't get into now) has historically been tone-deaf when it comes to class issues. You see the biggest flurries of feminist activity on university campuses and in upwardly mobile urban areas, which are inaccessible to the majority of women.

So if you look at feminism from a working class woman's perspective, it has nothing to offer her. She might work retail, or in a trade, not a job where feminism is going to give her the tools to "advance." what would help her and her kids in the meantime is finding a stable husband.

There are a lot of issues affecting rural and poorer women specifically, but they're invisible to a lot of feminist activists. Intersectionalism is important.

If you're starting off from the point that feminism "just strives for equality of the sexes" then you've all but dismissed the possibility that there's anything wrong with feminism that might put people off, including women.

Hostile sexism involves old-fashioned and overt negativity towards women, whereby they are perceived as wanting to control men.

Here's one example. If you can object to the idea that women are wanting to control men, can you object to the idea that men are wanting to control women? Because that's a pretty common idea among feminists. The Duluth Model is an influential model of domestic violence among feminists and it sees the root cause of domestic violence as men’s desire to control women and “sustain a patriarchal society”. Or look at any of the rhetoric surrounding abortion, which is frequently portrayed in terms of "men just trying to control women's bodies" and men not wanting women to have any rights. Is this "hostile sexism" within feminism a valid reason to disagree with it?

Many, many women are starting to see how ridiculous the whole thing is. The women who have turned away from (or were never interested in) feminism are fully aware that much of what feminists claim to care about has no realistic relevance to their own lives and/or whatever issues they're personally dealing with cannot be solved or hand-waved away by strictly blaming their ownership of a vagina.

Modern feminism seems to be solely driven based on a desire for coddling, handouts and endless praise for women for whatever they do. It's toxic and encourages gross, unappealing, crass and tactless behavior and it's infantilizing.

If it's not something trivial they're complaining about it's some absurd thing that really has nothing to do with feminism's original purpose. It's full of people so desperate to be 'different' and 'special' that they now believe it's possible (not to mention logical) to change your gender like you change your clothes.

You have women running around here acting like someone whistling at you on a busy street (while annoying) is like the worst thing in the world and practically akin to rape. Oh, and speaking of rape, large swaths of these self-identified feminists believe that if a boy doesn't call you again after you fuck him it's totally reasonable to cry rape because you "retroactively" revoked consent.

There's so much disinformation and bad science in feminists spheres it's not even funny...saying nothing of the fact that it's like half of them genuinely believe history don't real. There are millions of young women who are now so divorced from reality they should be paying alimony.

And the insidious way they try to insert themselves in issues they have no business being involved in, in an attempt to stay relevant is disgusting to me.

Aside from that, I just don't care about feminists or anything they have to talk about. I can't relate to it. I don't feel oppressed, there is no gender pay gap (that cannot be explained by logical, outside factors), you're never going to browbeat or shame x number of men out of being "sexist" in their thoughts, there is no 'rape culture', threats on social media is not exactly an issue exclusive to women, it pretty much only seeks to advance or "improve" the lives and careers of middle class, liberal white women, and we've pretty much reached peak equality anyway.

Mine is in no way a unique or unheard of perspective. Women who have disagreed with feminists in the past - even in the politest of ways and about 'minor' issues - have been shouted down, doxxed, harassed, ostracized and even terminated from their jobs. Women see the loud, obnoxious, venomous "feminists" on their campuses, at their jobs or on social media and are repulsed by it. We/they see the ridiculous bullshit they screech about and want nothing to do with it.

as someone who has been vocally antifeminist since 1987, this article is question-begging bunk. women who oppose feminism are not LEFTISTS. they reject the neologisms, concepts and bugaboos of the left. they are anti collectivist, or in other cases simply dont see "women" as their "collective", often instead seeing the "church" or "their family" as their "collective".

feminism has been of the left since its inception among the progressives in 1st wave, who handed the baton to the marxists in 2d wave and now its takeover by SJWs in 3rd/4th waves. it achieved all of its legal ends decades ago and is now a totalitarian movement bent on "reeducating" the humans out of reality and human nature via social opprobrium and blackmail. surprisingly, many people reject this, particularly liberty-minded people

I think many women are opposing feminism because

--it's devolved into bigotry against men, it's now misandry

--it's accomplished all of its "legitimate" goals (equal pay, full participation in society both culturally and occupationally)

--having accomplished those goals, it's now inventing made up bullshit issues to maintain relevance -- issues like "harassment" and "microaggression" and "manspreading" and "mansplaining". It just makes feminists (and anyone else agitating about these "issues") look stupid, petty, bitchy, and cunty.

--it's negatively affecting men to the point now where growing numbers of (less attractive) men want nothing to do with women. Some of these men were men who would otherwise have been dating, fucking and marrying these women.

--it's also getting to the point where the only men who will deal with women are players, who will sex women up and refuse commitment, leaving more and more women ultimately dissatisfied in their personal and sexual relationships. I suspect women are catching on to this.

I should probably make a post about this, but I will use explicit terms to clarify because BPers confuse identity and ethics like 99% of the time.

It is because ethical collectivism (duty to the group) of women as a collective is unnatural. Most people do not care about all women and think all women are entitled to whatever feminism is trying to give them. Conversely, that is why gender roles (I.e. Group identity) for women exist.

Most people care about some women, don't care about most women, and probably actively despise a few. Some ideology about everyone being equal has no place in that type of thinking.

I don't consider myself an anti-feminist, but I'm certainly not a feminist either. I think it is an ideology that originally tried to create equality for women, but is currently being used by many (not all) to push women above men and/or demonize various aspects of masculinity. Just because I was born with a vagina, doesn’t mean I'm entitled to, nor do I want, a leg up to complete my goals. I reject all double standards, whether they harm me or help me.

Thus, I am egalitarian...not feminist and not MRA.

Because feminism is so broad right now that anyone can find something in it to dislike. The umbrella is too broad and the mix of bad actors and misinformation only add to it. Feminism needs to be replaced with something new that can pursue the lingering issues between men and women without Feminism's baggage and old guard.

That's not to say that they don't do good, but not all of their efforts are productive, and some are quite the opposite.

No such thing, women do not want to fight, any sexism against men is simply blamed on man because of the myth that women didn't have any power. They were quite powerful and had high status in the past, you did not fuck with them.

Benevolent sexism is a way to degrade men suffering in the past by blaming it on them.
