Poll: Does a guy going after a woman out of his league(3 or more points higher in attractiveness) show a lack of social awareness on his part? Or is it simply a guy trying his luck? Or both?

If he's only going for girls way out of his league, he's probably unaware.

If he goes for various levels of attractiveness, he's probably just shooting his shot with the hotter girl. More power to him.

Uf you find somebody attractive you should try to initiate a conversation if they aren't interested they will be short with their responses. However you should never prevent yourself from trying because you think somebody is out of your league .

if he genuinely believes he deserves her then she'll take notice. most of the time men making a play don't really have that type of self-confidence. in that case he is lacking awareness -- of himself most significantly

Guess it depends on whether he believes in juvenile things like "leagues", as though they were a caste system that forced people to date their looksmatch.

If someone tries his luck with a woman, it presumably means he's interested in her. That's about all you can extrapolate from the described scenario.

It is showing lack of awareness from a bluepilled state of mind. By “self selecting” and avoiding women who are out of your league, you’re subconsciously putting yourself into a few categories that are all instant turnoffs:

Putting women on a pedestal
Displaying low confidence (which like it or not comes through subconsciously when you’re clearly nervous)
Signaling that she’s higher status than you so you’re already pre conditioned to do a lot of blue pill type behaviors (similar to #1).

My understanding is that trp teaches to not do this. It takes a considerable amount of time to break out of this conditioning ... and if you’re been following the advice to lift, focus on career, improve social skills, etc, by the time you snap out of this way of thinking you might not be 3 notches below but maybe even a looksmatch ...

I think it depends upon his maturity level. When he’s young he’s probably not really that aware of his actual SMV. When he’s older and is more likely to be aware of it then he’s taking a shot and trying his luck.

It really depends. I think maybe 5 points below makes it seem like he is socially unaware. However, if he is closer like 3 points and he hits on multiple women of varying attractiveness, then he is just taking a shot he may miss

I don't think 3 points are realistically feasible. You can possibly make it work for a quick fling if circumstances are just right but there's no way you will permanently bridge a gap that wide in a relationship.

And by attractiveness I obviously mean overall mate value, not just looks. There's quite a few 5'er males with 8'er women if they are somehow able to compensate it. 8'er male with a 5'er female is more rate as far as I can tell though.

Edit: Also someone said the 1-10 scale for looks is more of a bell curve and people at both extreme ends just seem to flow together and I would agree with that. When it comes to 8's and above I think personality becomes much more important - the jump for a woman between a looks 6 and a looks 8 is huge but the jump between an 8 and 10 is minuscule in my book and things apart from her looks become much more important.

As for the rest it depends. If the girl is really top drawer in physique she might be getting hit on less than you think. A lot of guys clam up hardcore when it comes to top tier celebrity style looks girls even good looking ones. Confidence is sexy to women, and has been shown to even bump up mens looks when evaluated together.

Theres also a chance actually that most other guys or girls who judge him negatively might be the ones who show lack of social awareness. Maybe he got IOI's off her, what's her body language saying etc.

I'm not really a believer in this "leagues" stuff people talk about. It can really be a negative thought pattern, and it's hard to break, with silly rationale to dismiss any opposing evidence.
