My situation may not be the standard and certainly isn't a healthy relationship but I've noticed a common trend.

I'm currently FWB with an ex. I dumped her when she went on a date with someone else, she gave me the usual waterworks and i slammed the door on her. She contacted me on new years to party as all of our friends had work the next morning, I told her i slept with someone else the day after we broke up and was only interested in having a good time. While I always got a lot of female attention, I always remained faithful. We got hammered and went out to a club to dance. At the end of the night she was seen flirting with another guy, thinking he was making a move I moved him aside and readied to fight--only to be stopped by her admitting she was flirting, so I shoved her and left.

After begging me back over the phone I had what I can only describe as a drunken naked sexy fist fight in her living room. (we both do BJJ and MMA) I won and we slept together. And for the past week she's been sweet and submissive. This behavior always happens when I'm dominant.

  • Is dominance the only language to garner respect in a relationship?

I normally try to have a rational healthy relationship. I set boundaries, behave stoically when they're pressed and leave when they're broken. It's only when I assert myself passionately and behave domineering and violent do I get these responses.

  • Is this a natural dynamic? If so how can it be managed in modern society?

I recognize some of the things I did that night may be perceived as high value, sleeping with other women, fighting other men, leaving her and dominating afterward, but these are all toxic behavior and incongruent with functioning in modern civilization.

  • What do i do with this information?
  • How do I apply it to a healthy functioning relationship?
