B r u H.....honestly. A woman I know has done this TWICE. Stayed in a horrible relationship because she had a house she couldn't afford the mortgage on w/o the shit bf, AND now is continuing to cling to an awful, borderline emotionally abusive situationship, because, other than having low self esteem, she's hoping this absolute deadbeat will move in with her and help pay her mortgage. Being a pickme is so freaking harmful. We've all been there and like seriously it's a form of self harm. You can ruin friendships, family relationships, deeply hurt yourself, or ruin your financial status/credit w/ poor decisions like this.

Trainee solicitor here, buying a house with your partner outside of marriage is so risky, with barely any legal protection. So many couples I know do this, and are offended when I suggest drawing up a cohabitation agreement. Yet if/when the relationship breaks down this turns into a hugely messy situation, considering 90% of relationships started before the age of 30 end.

Frame it this way, these people wouldn’t buy the house themselves without the protection of a solicitor, conveyancer, surveyor, mortgage lender, mortgage broker, all legally regulated and qualified professionals with insurance. Yet happily enter one of the riskiest contracts of their life with no protection aside from the current romantic promises of their partner.

Shit, even my 21 year -old super PICK Me Ass knew better and bought my own home (worked my ass off & was much easier 20 years ago!) without my long term bf /turned later husband then turned ex many years later.... I just can’t imagine.
