Our country has an obesity epidemic that affects people in so many negative ways. The advice to learn how to eat healthy and exercise should be drilled into everybody's head until it's a subconscious habit.

So many women are fat that it just becomes catch-all advice. If you're truly unattractive and not fat, then your only options are to get a rockin' body and develop a nice personality. Same thing goes for guys, but add money, too.

I think it has more to do with confidence. Losing weight/getting fit takes work and dedication. There is a sense of accomplishment in acheving your goal weight or BMI, etc. Accomplishment inspire confidence and confidence is attractive.

Not every one is born blessed with good genetics, but anyone can work on sculpting their body. It won't make you a super model, but it will give you something to be proud of.

I'm currently with a girl who used to be fat, but lost 30lbs and is now hot as hell. When I look back at her fat pics I recoil and cringe, I'd have never noticed her in those pictures. Among other girls, I've met many who I'd consciously thought "If you lost weight you'd be extremely attractive". So... It's pretty good advice

Losing weight can help with attractiveness if you're fat, this goes for both genders. The goal is looking fit and healthy. It's also down to individual taste, obviously. There's some chubby chasers out there.

You’re right, you shouldn’t shoot for thin. You should shoot for fit. I have a comment below explaining this girl, but she is the definition of a butterface with probably one of the best bodies I’ve ever seen. She was able to find a Chad to LTR her and propose. So yeah get in the gym and start doing your squats.

The linked study (like most such studies of men’s mate choice behaviors) is irrelevant. Such studies are incapable of accurately describing the behavior of the male population because they random sample from the male population and present the sampled men with choices that they will never actually have outside of the study conditions.

Most men are chosen (for both sex and relationships) not choosing so the question of how a man would choose is only relevant to the few of us who actually can exercise choice from a number of different options. That’s a pretty small percentage of men to begin with, and narrows even further as you expand the required range of options for a man to actually be expressing a statistically valid preference.

In the study you cite, a full 25% of the guys chose body over face for long term partners... and only 51% chose face alone. That means 49% of the guys at minimum care about body shape. That's a pretty solid number I think. If you are ugly... makeup and weight loss will probably fix most of your issues.

I duno about you but I have just never been able to get into obese women. I have been with some really nice women who I was romantically attracted to, and tried to make the sexual attraction work but in the end I just couldn’t get into it.
