SO, first off, this page is gold. You all know that, and we're all learning and sharing together.

So in that spirit: help me help the younger generation. I am a bit older than the general user on here, and I have a 12 year old daughter. Some of my friends and I have been discussing having a real, frank discussion with her and some carefully chosen friends (whose moms will also be involved) about what they need to be aware of as they enter relationship age. We're thinking we're going to rent a cabin, make some incredible food, and just have a no-holds-barred, sit on the floor until late just talking about ALL OF IT conversation with them. No judgements, no awkwardness, just arming them with things they NEED TO KNOW to navigate this shit and not fall as easily into the traps that most of us have.

Things we're considering addressing that aren't covered in sex ed class:
- Porn, and how it affects perceptions of what is NORMAL and EXPECTED in a relationship. This is what most guys start off seeing, and it's just not representative of regular sexual activity, and the girls need to know that and know how to shut down anything they don't want to do.
- Negging, or related behaviors intended to break down their self esteem
- Sending nudes or explicit pictures - boys will share it, it will be forever, and as underaged girls, there are possible legal repercussions

My question for the collective: WHAT ELSE would you have liked to know at that age? What landmines could you have avoided? And do you have any advice or suggestions about how to make this event, if not "fun", at least positive and useful. (We've jokingly called it the "Coven meeting", where we teach the young our ways)

Thanks all!
