When my HVM dad started dating my mom, she was in debt. It was a small amount compared to what earned but enough that it made her feel like she couldn't get ahead.

What did he do? He paid it off.

I understand there are limits and whatnot, but this man's attitude just reeks of being an asshole. If you care about someone, you'd be willing to help them out. Money isn't everything. Until a man puts a ring on my finger, I am not obligated to answer his calls in a timely manner, make time for him if he didn't make plans with me, give two shits about his family, or clean/cook/or anything for him.

While in the dating stage, a man is supposed to pursue me, we are supposed to entertain each other, and have fun. But if he wants anything serious from me, I want that ring. Or else he better be paying his way for any wife benefits I happen to gift to him in the meantime.

I'm fine with that. I don't depend on men for money before or after marriage. Of course I'm not entitled to other people's money, no one is.

But it's said with such an attitude that I'd be super wary of someone.

Marriage or financial support isn't an objective. It's not some carrot on a stick I'm inclined to follow. But that kind of bitterness is really unattractive.
