I myself would not like to be approached by any guys that are complete randos (don't study or work in the same place as me and don't have any common friends) regardless of how hot they are. So I would say that in general, approach people in a party where you were both invited by the same person, or in any activities where you have reasons to speak with them other than thinking they look good

Literally everywhere. But I don't approach from the perspective of "I'm a nobody so I have to go convince this unsuspecting woman that she should give me her number so I better make sure I sell myself to her". I don't seek any particular outcome and I am fine with never getting laid again if that's what happens. This frees me up to be confident, be myself and throw caution to the wind. I am not there trying to convince women or sell myself to them (it doesn't work). I literally give them an opportunity to meet me and I make their day better, giving them an escape from their mundane boring lives.

If the situation is public and "social," go for it. Friend of a friend? Party? Bar/club? Study group? She has people to back her up if she wants to just talk to them. If she's smiling at you first, waving, or winking, making eye contact, no one is going to bitch you out for saying hello. Just do it. And if she continues talking to you, you're probably doing pretty good with her. You can get flirty. See if she flirts back, check her reaction. If she's flirting back and single, get her number and/or ask her out to get to know her better. If the situation is a work situation, probably leave it alone. Tread carefully, at least. My parents met at work, and my dad was allegedly awkward as hell, but he still married her. It could happen. Try the "can I get your number to call you sometime?" if and only if she seems age appropriate, she's not your boss, or you're not a current client. Ask yourself: why do you think you have a chance? If it's because she was "sort of nice to you in customer service," then it's a no. Women almost always have to be sort of nice. Look for people you have more in common with than that. I sympathize that it gets harder as you get older. I really do sympathize.

Cold approach?

Low inhib places where its generally know for possiblen for possible hook ups - clubs or bars. Certain parties.

Warm approach (friend of a friend, wider social networks and clubs) -

Literally anywhere social. Met at a potluck and you vibe? Ask her out for coffee the next day.

Note: requires a bit of social intelligence to navigate the intricacies of social circles (ie, hitting on ALL your friends female friends is not going to go down well. Learning when a woman is vibing with you instead of just being a friendly acquaintance)

How do you know if you should?

Tricky one. Again relies on social intelligence. Does she look comfortable? Is she withdrawing from you? Are you "vibing" on the dance floor or having a great coversation in the balcony?

In a club its accepted that women will get hit on. Comes with the territory. So as long as you can take rejection well and don't immediately grab her ass you'll be fine.

For a warm approach , you'll just need to be able to read social cues to see if she's interested in you too.

My best place was always Libraries.

It´s perfect to see routines, schedules and book preferences which is a good insight to the women´s mind.

First there´s always a external subject (books). Second, they are usually interesting.

You have to create a "pocket of interaction" (which depends on where you are), because if you are inside the library you can´t speak loudly.

Never interact too much or with too much women, because you don´t want to be the creepy guy in that context.

Usually there´s a small coffee nearby or something like that and you can get a coffee right away.

I think so long as it is in an open space and a public setting and she doesnt seem enaged in something its ok.

I live in a dorm and nothing offended me more than when men came to my door "to say hi". One guy even bought furniture from me for the chance to get into my room and say he was in love with me. It was bullshit- didnt know him from adam and he was dismissed with his new furniture and the threat of a call to the police.

I know where I don’t want to be approached (giga Chad excepted of course) Grocery store, airport security line, STI test clinic (true story), anytime I look like I’m busy running errands, or coming up to my car when I’m sitting in it always makes me jump. Or following me when I’m taking a walk or jog, esp in your car.

Also, customers and prospects. Coworkers Might be OK if they work in a completely separate business unit and preferably separate location. That’s a case-by-case thing since it can be awkward.

Retail shopping and gym is Case by case too. Public transport Is generally no, but I’ve met and spoken to lots of people on trains and buses over the years as long as he doesn’t come at me trying to get my number right away. A nice conversation could lead to an exchange.

Pros - in one of my social sports leagues or at happy hour, usually hit up once a week with coworkers and friends at an outdoor location. And whatever other socially open places that are common to be approached.
