Last week I walked my dog to the park. A guy drove into the empty parking lot, backed into a space facing me, and sat in his car looking out. I waited a few minutes to see if he’d get out to fish or something. Nope. Welp, sorry pup, guess we’re going home cuz I can’t just live my life without worrying about the worst that could happen.

On another note, I’ve recently lost weight and realized how much of a defense mechanism my fat was. I can’t stand when men look at me. I can’t stand feeling like they’re undressing me in their head. I can’t stand worrying about if they come up to me or what they’ll say. Attention from men I don’t know makes me physically ill. That could just be my personality type, but I have no idea how genuinely beautiful women do it without living in constant anxiety.

Fed up of not being allowed to have a weapon legally (in the U.K.). I’m 5’2 and until only recently a recovering anorexic. Any man could easily overpower me and I’m not even allowed to carry pepper spray? Sometimes I wish I lived in the US so I could legally own a gun.

To pick only one story from memory.... Being 16 walking with a friend in NYC when a 20 something year old man passes us in the intersection, turns right around and starts to chat with us. My friend actually entertains this idiot, and I'm stuck for blocks with him following us. She seemed to like playing games as far as entertaining his attention but not being interested, so his attention was on her until he realized he wasn't going to get anywhere. I find this out after he follows me into a dressing room in a store with sexy clothes, where he gropes me and tries for more.

I told my friend, which is when she told me he tried to isolate her to do the same, but got out of it. She continued to allow him to follow us and was annoyed at me for having a problem with it and got allowing myself to get cornered if I didn't want it. I was young and dumb so I wasn't assertive, and not familiar with the area so I need her to get back to the train. At this point, he's focused on me because I'm the easier target, and trying to convince "us" to go somewhere else to keep hanging out. He went as far as following us to the train, and even tried to grab me to pull me out before the doors closed.

She was my best friend, and pretty much my only friend at that time in my life, and she let me down. She was mad at me for almost getting kidnapped. She had a habit of putting herself in unsafe situations with men (frequently met guys on the internet, preferred them out of high school age) and didn't think anything of her actions or that she dragged me into it, and I let my guard down tolerating his presence. I failed to notice that he attempted to isolate her first, and wrongly assumed that I was safe from his advances because he was initially more interested in her more than me. And I totally froze up because god forbid I make a scene or hurt anyone's feelings, and that was not my first assault so freezing became a conditioned response.

Since the pandemic, I’ve completely avoided certain secluded paths through a park I used to go through... because even in broad daylight, I no longer feel safe out there. There have been more reports of drug addicts, irate homeless men and other violence in our area, and what used to be somewhere where I’d be on alert but not scared is a place I will not go at all.

I love nature, and I love all of the places where I used to be able to stand still for a moment and not hear anything but trees and birds...but I’m not trying to get got.

I have a million of these rules. We all do.

This reminds me of a creepy story of meeting a former classmate at a bookstore one day. We had a conversation through social media and being bored, decided to meet him the following day.

This was a very bad decision....

This man would talk non-stop about his drug addicted friends... He then began following me around very closely. I started walking faster through the shelves. He got worse. I stopped near a front display and he told a joke and kicked his foot onto my butt.. "playfully".... I told him not to touch me again. He got defensive...

I moved around the store and weaved between many book shelves until I couldn't see him. I checked around and saw the back of his head over the back shelves.

I quickly shot out of the front doors and booked down the street and hustled back home as fast as I could.

Scary....

I purposely wear less flattering jackets and put my hood up if I walk home at night. I also carry dog spray. Stop fucking making us feel like this you pricks. Female rage can only boil for so long.

My bf can get me from work most nights but he leaves work the same time as me from the opposite end of the city maybe once a week, so we just meet at the apartment. Wish I could just freely be outside and not worry.

Decided to go for a run on the track at the middle school a few months back. Kids weren’t in school and it was the middle of the day so it should be empty. Beautiful sunny day and I was alone jogging on the track. A truck pulled into the only entrance. A man sat there for a while. Eventually he got out and took off sprinting around the track. He was wearing blue jeans. I pretended not to see him but out of the corner of my eye I saw him looking over at me as he sprinted around the track. I’d have to pass his truck. Nope! I turned and sprinted off the track and into the woods. I didn’t take half a second to look back. I didn’t even run home. I ran to a store nearby and called my friend to pick me up.

Did I overreact? Who knows? And so what if I did? What was the cost if I didn’t react and my worst nightmare came true?

I’ll also point out how common this is for women. In my adrenaline fueled state I decided to run... NOT home. If I’d run home he could find me later. This unfortunately ain’t my first rodeo.

It’s so sad that men pretend our struggles and the unique violence against us don’t matter—and as a result, they don’t believe we have to do these things. As a humorous aside, I used to do the fake phone call until one time as I was doing it and passing the creeps I got a freakin loud phone call. I just ran off. It was like out of a twisted sitcom.

Years ago, i worked very late one night and was the last one in the office. As i stepped out the front door and began walking down the sidewalk, a man passed by me. I had a bad feeling so I watched him in my peripheral and saw that after he passed by me he turned around and started to follow me. My car was around the next corner, so when i turned the corner i booked it and was able to hop in my car. He came to the corner and stopped, i could tell he was looking around for me. I probably ran faster than i ever have or could without some burst of fear induced adrenaline.

Im glad my instincts kicked in, i had a bad feeling and didn’t hesitate.

Omg yeah. When I was in 16 I remember going to get gas, going directly in the building to pay for it (which I hate doing!), and I was wearing a skirt and coat, dressed up for new years. And this older guy who worked there basically followed me in (he was outside doing something), insisted I come to his register and opened a new one, when there was another guy already working the register, and then after he checked me out (pun intended), followed me back outside to my car and was creepily watching!! like wtf I was 16 and super innocent and shy...

I had an old guy following me offering me a ride home cause I was walking home from uni. I said no and he kept following me for a while. I couldn’t walk on my own for a while because I kept thinking he will just pop up out of nowhere. I bought a bicycle just to avoid from walking. These days I’d rather spend more money taking Grab rather than walking in a secluded area even if it’s only a 15 minutes walk. Even then I am still conscious and alert. It’s really stressful and tiring. I can’t wait to find a job that doesn’t require me to work at night. Stay safe y’all🙏

I was followed around Barnes & Noble once. It was dark out. I had to walk around and leave through another door, then I watched him look for me. It was creepy.

Literally thirty minutes ago. Biking home and a broken ass van passed me, slowed, passed again and stopped ahead of me in the bike lane. I said aloud NOT TODAY SATAN and turned around and biked up one ways and sidewalks all the way home. On a THIRTEEN MINUTE BIKE RIDE this occurred. Who’s going to come tell me Not All Vans? Miss me.
