There’s a doc on HBO (I think?) about the dating app business model and how it isn’t beneficial to women. One of the psychologists even talks about how Bumble passes more emotional labor on the women, it was surprisingly spot on

I proudly say I've never signed up for or used OLD. Sadly the losers still find us and have no problem trying to start a chat. There is no shortage of unabashed men.

But if we live fully, gratefully, and don't have a desperate need for attention, we attract good people naturally.

I’ve deleted my dating apps after my final trolling last night, and it feels like a breath of fresh air. Instead of wondering if I put too much in my bio, I don’t even care now. With my trolling profile, there were no actual pictures of me, and I listed I was female with several useless facts on my profile. 🤯

Men still swiped and I honestly can’t find a reason for them to do so. I could have been a catfish and they didn’t care. 🤔

Enough about those men. If I never met them outside of dating apps, chances are that we were never meant to cross paths anyway. 😊

I've been there too and we're not alone. I assumed its a suitable alternative to finding an available man in real life. It's not based on what you described.

App developers, cops etc want us to blame ourselves because it works in their favor to keep us trapped on the app thinking there's something wrong with us.

These apps are designed this way.

So sorry about what happened to you, it's heartbreaking how many women carry sexual/emotional trauma caused by men. And thanks for the solidarity, right up there with you that women, especially FDS women should boycott dating apps out of self respect more than anything. It's very much beneath us to go dumpster diving trying to find an HVM. Sadly the apps are designed to be addictive and to give false hope through FOMO so many women won't heed our advice but to each their own.

I agree people should boycott dating apps. I tried dating apps but unfortunately I had too much class and too high standards. I met two people in person. Went out on a date and never talked to them again. They were both trash and obviously wanted to have sex with a stranger. That was my results after sifting through much trash. Just to find out the alleged high caliber ones were trash too. I had one man who was an attorney. Say to me at the end of our date... Do you want to see where I live? Hell no What kind of question is that? He caught me once more after our date and I end up cussing him out because he kept asking me for pictures. There is no logical reason that a person needs to have pictures of someone. It just does not compute for me. The second one was just a wealthy Hobah bag who wanted to have sex. Dating apps or for people who just have no standards And maybe low self-esteem and are willing to have casual sex with people. I just would not have been possible for me to be successful in that filthy atmosphere.

I meet friends off dating apps too. Idk where else to meet people. :( I’ve never had anyone come up to me in public in a friendly or romantic way. I don’t have the option for coworker friends or school friends, same goes for dates. Maybe a MeetUp event app could be better than a dating app or something...

OP, I’m so sorry that happened to you, and that you feel you can’t report it 😔 sadly enough I doubt you’d have much resource to report it, I’m so sorry. And what a horrendous monster. I hope you are doing better/getting help for that experience, so traumatic. I’m so sorry.

Just want to say that when it comes to many ladies’ views about OLD that I have to respectfully disagree. We must be more strategic about using OLD instead of entirely dismissing it. Therese been studies done showing that couples who meet online are happier (yes for real) and I think the statistic right now is that 25% of married people met online and that number will only increase to become the majority.

It’s how it is, society is changing and social circles are getting smaller. OLD is a reflection of societal change and if we want to take advantage of all the tools out there we should try to adapt instead of reject.

Considering the ratio of men to women online there’s no reason not to be extremely picky with profiles and who you meet in person. Since joining FDS I will only do a video call first and expect dinner after... and I will not text men who don’t text back with a question. Basically I’m going to be 5x pickier than before and my standards higher than in “real life”.

Also thanks to FDS I will not rely on dating apps so much for landing dates anymore. FDS has made me realize if anything that dating apps really are a lot more effort than I thought!!!. I will get back to dance clubs and social events and meetups and networking.... like the prepandemic days, as things open up where I live there’s no excuse to be stuck in my “pandemic bubble”. It’ll be kinda hard to break free of it but I will.

That’s not to say that if you have a negative (or downright traumatic one) experience on OLD that it’s ever the users fault! I’ve been a victim of sexual assault once to a guy I met online and it still hurts. Thanks to FDS I know look at male profiles with my nose up... I look at them all as potential for violence (which may not be the healthiest approach but if it keeps me safe then so be it) and always come from the stance of self-protection and if the guy doesn’t get it then he’s not a HVM.

FDS doesn’t downright say not to use OLD, so I feel ok posting this here, but I hope my comment isn’t out of place considering where the OP is coming from. I mean no disrespect. If it seems like it is please let me know and I’ll delete this comment as the last thing I want to do is invalidate anyone’s experience.
