There is an organization called the Secular Coalition of America. It is a large lobby and support group for secular thought in the United States, and they are very active.

I've been active in the group for a few years, and I've always been very supportive of their efforts and movement.

I am officially leaving the group and withdrawing any and all support due to their discriminating policies. Starting on thursday, they are hosting an event called the "2014 secular summit and lobby day." The event is free to everybody except straight white males, who must pay $100.

This is pure discrimination, plain and simple.

Essentially, this means that only straight white men have to pay.

I'm outraged. I really wanted to go to this event, and spread word about this event, but I simply can't afford it. I'm poor and there's no way I can spare $100. So I'll be missing it because I was born the wrong way. This is ridiculous. Years of my support, yet I am apparently not welcome or wanted.

Let's just go into how stupid this is.

So it's free for anybody in the LGBT community. Ok...so how do they determine whether or not somebody is actually gay? What would stop a straight person from lying about being gay? Or bisexual? How would they check? Do they have a gay-scanner at the door? Do they have a test for gay men?

This creates a situation where gay men will be forced to prove that they're indeed gay to gain free entry. And what do they mean by "LGTBQ"? What about people who are a 1 on kinsey scale? Or mostly heterosexual, but with a few homosexual tendencies? What about someone who occasionally enjoys sex with the same gender? What's the metric used to determine the cutoff point?

So "minorities" get in for free? Ok, by minority, I assume they mean non-white....but what about white-hispanics? What about white Cubans? What about white people with Native ancestry? How much "non-white" blood do you "need" before you become eligible for free entry? How would they check? Suppose I show up and say I'm a quarter-black...how would they know? Will they be performing DNA testing?

Why should a woman that makes $100,000 a year get free entry when a man making minimum wage doesn't?

What makes this exceptionally stupid is how it hurts themselves- how does it benefit themselves by excluding people from the event? Aren't they trying to spread their message to as many people as possible? Doesn't it help them to have as many people on their side as possible? Part of the event is a training course for promoting secularism...well wouldn't the cause of secularism benefit from as many people receiving this training as possible?

I find it ironic that attendence is free for students. Were I wealthy enough to afford college, I'd would be deemed eligible to go for free. However, since I am too poor to afford college, now I suddenly have to pay?

The situation is outrageous and unfair. I am cutting any and all ties and support for the secular coalition of America. I will not support an organization that believes in different treatment of people of different gender and race.
