I should have listened, gents…

Myself (41) and my STBXW (38)had our first round of mediation this week and it was a complete shitshow. We sailed through the parenting agreement in 15 minutes and moved on to finances and assets and it all went to hell.

Background: She told me she wanted a divorce at the beginning of the summer, we were dealing with the same bullshit and strained relationship issues that come with raising a young family and having a two parent working household. My main issue has been sex, we’d had duty sex for a long time and I never felt it was a priority for her. The worst thing I ever did was install a TV in the bedroom. I drank a fair amount over the last number of years but I haven’t touched a drop in 110 days and have no interest in ever doing so again. I’ve lost almost 50 pounds, feel great, working with a therapist and building myself back up for the benefit of my kids. Once this shit is settled, I’m going to launch off and become a bad ass MF. Im working on me.

Her reason for serving me? I was miserable and she had “lost herself”

I went into the zoom mediation with high hopes, I had consulted with an attorney (on my own dime) and had an idea of how things would play out equitably if we went to court as it came to assets. I never let us get too far in debt so our finances are rather simple. It was just a matter of splitting things and both going our own ways and focusing on coparenting. She and I had discussed finances a bit over the summer and I had an idea it was going to get ugly and it did.

The “mediator” was a local guy and was well recognized and it became obvious he was in her corner from the beginning. I threw out a fair number where she’d pay me out of the house, I’d keep some of my stuff and my retirement and I’d start a new life. She threw out a lowball number and I said no way. The mediator kept coming to her defense and we took a break. I made a phone call, my attorney said what she proposed is bullshit and I ended the meeting after the break.

I guess amicable isn’t amicable anymore.
