It’s really strange. I have the context of growing up in two different countries. I remember being a young adolescent, protesting against the push for women of my culture to marry before they graduate high school, and the mentality that our women have to go abroad to be strippers or domestic helpers in foreign countries. It was also common in my college years to have professors, politicians, rich men basically, take advantage of us students. Trigger Warning: One girl was abducted from campus, gang raped and left for dead, the mastermind was a corrupt mayor and his goons. Being sexual/sexualized wasn’t seen as empowering for us. If your sexuality was exploited, it was the ultimate traumatic experience.

So I had the mentality that I need to be a liberated woman not a slave to the culture I was living in. And people thought that was the American in me peeking out. In my mind, a liberal woman doesn’t follow the traditional path of early motherhood/domestication, exploitation of her body by sexual objectification. Basically, what I inherited from America was the mentality that a woman was equal to man and could have a legitimate career and make enough money to be financially stable/independent.

So colour me surprised when I come back to the States and see this trend of tweens being exposed early to sex. Talking about giving bj’s like it’s a rite of passage. Women’s physical appearance being the only thing that makes her valuable but still just an object. And just this mentality from other women that it’s fun and cool to be treated like one of the guys, which somehow meant being disrespected, groped, slapped/choked, and passed around as a “ho” for the “bros.”

It’s like I left one Hell and came back to the crazy town capital of Hell. Coming from a place where I’ve seen women and girls being exploited, traded around like it’s nothing. Majority of them don’t sign up for this. Majority of them would rather clean toilets than be on a pole or sitting at a table, enduring sex tourists groping them. Majority of them are snatched from their neighborhood, manipulated or lied to, bait and switched into these arrangements. The sex work industry isn’t a lifestyle, it’s exploitation, slavery/torture, and not something that can be logically idealized.

I couldn’t understand the sheer fuckery to think dipping one’s toes into the sex/pornography business is fun and the truest testament to being the 21st century liberal woman. Can these people who cater to this like on OF, can they say to the little Asian girl obliviously eating a cupcake while a group of heavy-breathing men leer at her around the table, hey this is eMpoWeRinG amiright?! I remember seeing that spectacle a vacation resort, I only heard rumours before that, but to see it in real life? My gut instinct at what that little girl was going to be put through overwhelmed me and I started to cry and vomited in my mouth.

But here I am now. Just another “prude” wondering wtf is happening. Shaking my fists at the heathens promoting the lewds. Cuz I’m the one who isn’t “woke.”

Fuck no ... This shit is not okay.

the amount of women who have yet to realize this. i always try to tell women about this but even my own mom thinks “that’s just what women naturally find empowering” many religious or conservative women are so conditioned to believe that women being submissive, subservient, and a product for male pleasure is natural and healthy for a woman. one thing that can help is educating women in how our society truly brainwashes them into making themselves weak and dependent while simultaneously tricking them into feeling empowered by it. our childhood environments and messages we received wether directly or subliminally CREATE our preferences and behavior. our society literally is build to make women feel empowered by submitting and serving men.

I think there are good mothers and other women encouraging young women to take positions of authority. It's not to say there aren't people in the sex liberation camp encouraging women to seek empowerment through sexual appeal and favors.

This is the age of new feminism. Our grandmas and mothers used to fight to vote and to be able to hold a job, and now we fight to show our titties in the streets, sell ourselves for 6 dollars 99 per month while having some simp boyfriend on the side that can barely wipe his ass who needs the whole plethora of housework done for him because he's not up to the task of being a full blown grown up even at the age of 35, all while feeling we somehow have it made. Also incredibly sad that female-dominant professions outside of sex work are still underpaid, overworked, and often have morality tied into them which keeps the martyr complex going (teaching and nursing are what I speak of here).
