I’m a final year med student, and I cannot tell you how many patients I’ve seen who’ve had their lives completely destroyed by alcohol. The body is not built to handle all that oxidative stress anyway, it’s bound to irreparably damage your liver and other organs.

Any man (or woman for that matter) who’s obsessed with alcohol is low value to me. Total turn off.

When I was out to lunch with a couple lady friends a little while ago, one asked the other what exciting things she’s been up to. The one responds “well, I got drunk at book club!” triumphantly. I wanted to get up and leave.

Later, on this exact same day, they both shamed me for wanting to tell my boss about the predatory activity of an employee who’d just left the day before. I knew the company couldn’t do anything; I just wanted my boss to know why I was SO relieved I didn’t have to work with this guy anymore. And why I had not spoken up when it was happening (I was still new, he had been there longer than me, etc)

They said things like “you don’t know how that will affect you in the future here” and “I don’t mean to gaslight you but” and “you had options to say no to him” and “why didn’t you report it at the time? They can’t do anything for you now”

Even if they were right, like, I was seeking validation, from an authority figure at my company. To tell me yeah that was wrong and here’s what we’ll do if it ever happens again. And he did, and I felt a lot better after I did tell my boss.

I don’t talk to either of them anymore, and told them their reactions were really fucked up.
