All unmarried. All better than fine. Marriage is not every woman’s dream goal. I’m turning 43 in a month, my sister 33 in January. We are both unmarried and unbothered.

Yeeeeah. I was just thinking this morning that Oprah really understands something a lot of people don't. She made specific decisions to avoid marriage and kids but has a relationship that has outlasted most marriages. And she openly acknowledges that she was not willing to play the typical wife role and had she and Stedman married, they've be divorced by now because they would have folded under the weight of expectations of traditional gender roles in marriage.

I now aspire to what she has: a quality long term partner who I have on terms that make sense for my personal aspirations, financial goals, and lifestyle. There's something especially empowered about prioritizing yourself and your comfort in that way.

You worded this so well omg. Using this for my manifestation scripting

[–][deleted] 80 points81 points82 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

46 year old here! Never married, never had kids and it was the best decision I ever made in life. I have several generations of women in my family that are like me. My aunt died a virgin, I have several great aunts going back several generations that never married, had kids and LTRs etc just never felt the need to have a contract. They are strong "fuck society" types that would make red pill, MGTOW and the like, blow their heads up with their rage lol.

My sister is also unmarried, we've both been asked and both refused. We date but that's it. We've both have long committed relationships just we never felt the need to marry. Our family is full of 'feminists' who see marriage as possession of a person which we choose to do or not. Mostly not and no regrets.

See ladies!!

I’m so tired of the stereotype that “we couldn’t find a man...poor thing. What’s wrong with us?”

I had a husband at 23 that lasted three months before he cheated on me. He was in his 30s and now I realize he had ED. Two proposals after that that I ended. I found men, I just threw em back. 🙅‍♀️ I’m so happy to be single during this pandemic.

Men should be providers. Period. If they can’t provide for a woman and or children they have no business even courting.

Lady Gaga 😍 I love how she dumped her ex fiancé when he was like ‘can you slow down your career for me so I can feel better about my terrible acting career.’

I laughed a few years ago when a big media outlet referred to George Clooney as "Mr. Amal Alamuddin" and "Amal's new husband."

“I feel like I’m in a place in my life where you’ve got to come with a lot of game, not the kind of game that we think of, the kind of game that’s like my life is really good so you better be able to bring that and maybe better because I just won’t accept anything less,” she said.

I love taking over the narrative of single ladies as powerful, happy and content rather than sad cat ladies or witches in some enchanted forest (although imo both of those sound awesome too).

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points25 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes! I used to feel sorry for the middle-aged and elderly ladies on my street who live alone. I felt SORRY for them! now I’m like “they are probably the happiest people in the neighborhood”

And yes my literal dream is to move to the woods in Pacific NW and be a dog and cat lady in a cottage!

I haven't been in a relationship for 6 years. Three years after my last relationship to soul search and figure out who I was and the last three years because I leveled up and saw the LVMs my friends were with and wanted everything opposite that in my next relationship. Charlize is goals all the way.

[–]PahapanFDS Disciple 65 points66 points67 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

"Coincidentally", she ended her relationship with Sean Penn five years ago. He's a known abuser. I'm coming up on 2 months out of my abusive relationship and I really can't see myself trusting a man ever again. I'll probably pull a Charlize and have children on my own, leading a peaceful life of celibacy.

[–]s_slayerFDS STRATEGY COACH 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

And he’s marrying a 28 yr old. Typical. I’m sure that will last forever 🙄

[–]UnstrirringCoffee 14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Gross. He is already 15 years older than Theron and has now suckered a 28-year-old into marriage. What a scrote!

[–]iggypooop20 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The best part is she just ghosted his ass when she was fed up with him.

[–]Inspection-Critical 13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Didn't Sean Penn assault Madonna with a baseball bat? The guy is deranged.

[–]PahapanFDS Disciple 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yup. The story I read is that he tied her to a chair and then beat her with a bat. Then he either managed to intimidate her into recounting to the press saying that he'd never been violent with her, or she actually felt sorry for him like many abuse victims do so she publicly backtracked. But it's all on record.

He may actually be a sociopath. His current wife is a virtual child bride compared to him, someone he'll easily be able to manipulate. I wish they could court order domestic abusers to never be in a relationship again.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, if the SPCA can order someone not to own a pet after abusing one, why can’t we do the same with men who abuse women?

[–]oh_beach_pleaseFDS Newbie 48 points49 points50 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

you know it's a funny thing, I swear I remember reading an interview with her from one of those women's mags from yeaaaaaaars ago talking about her old partner Stuart Townsend, and it stuck out because I felt so sad from it. She was saying something about him slagging her off for how she looked or not making some basic effort and I remember thinking "Wow she's so gorgeous and funny and talented why does she put up with that?". No wonder she's happier single! Interesting

[–]oh_beach_pleaseFDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I was absolutely blown away when I read about her childhood, what a strong woman she is - and her mom too!

[–]Inspection-Critical 3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Townsend has no place to judge. He's ugly af and his career never went anywhere. Certainly nowhere near the level of Theron's.

[–]oh_beach_pleaseFDS Newbie 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Innit! I was faltering for his name when I wrote the comment, it was like "you know skinny Irish guy...from Queen of the Damned..." - she made the comments back when she was "happily married" too. Scrotes gonna scrote

[–]Inspection-Critical 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

QotD was 20 years ago already, and I think it's the biggest thing he's done.

Since then, he aged poorly and got arrested for domestic violence. What a winner.

[–][deleted] 57 points58 points59 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Men really don’t matter that much. Even HVM. They are not the center of the world. When I was a pick me obviously I thought they were everything. They really aren’t.

[–]Annia_CornificiaFDS Newbie 29 points30 points31 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I've been single for almost two years and I have no interest in trying to date right now. Been some of the most peaceful and unproblematic time of my life (even with the pandemic, which should say a lot).

[–]Inspection-Critical 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've been single for a few years now, and they've been the most peaceful and productive of my life. Every time I think of dating again, I can't bring myself to do it.

[–]s_slayerFDS STRATEGY COACH 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

46 and was pretty much single for the past 11 years. “Dated” a few flakes that could neither commit nor let me go. I found someone this year who is perfect for me but before him I was totally happy to continue being single forever. I’m not sure I need to marry again either. Maybe ceremonial somehow, but legally, I doubt it. I’m going to end up with more money than him anyway and we aren’t having kids. I don’t see the point. Women like Charlize and Winona are too much for most scrotes. Being strong, independent, complex and smart is too much for their egos. Look at Sean Penn who was with Charlize. He’s like 55 or 60 now and I think marrying a 28 yr old. Smart women realize most men are just not worth it. It’s ultimately all about their damn egos.

[–]Inspection-Critical 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sadly, that 28-year old is gonna think she won a prize or that she's special somehow.

[–]NoThisIs-Patrick3 points 5 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

“Dated” a few flakes that could neither commit nor let me go

What is this mentality? I've been dealing with this now as I'm hitting the age where just dating/hanging out doesn't cut it for me anymore, and these guys are so annoying. If they can't offer what the other person wants, why do they keep trying to waste each other's time? I don't get it. Even if they kept getting "benefits", the woman is just miserable and no one's really getting anything valuable from it at that point.

[–]s_slayerFDS STRATEGY COACH 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. They don’t know what they want at all. When I pursued them harder, they retreated more, then when I withdrew from them, they pursued me harder. Then when I tried to break up once and for all with them suddenly they would text and say they wished they had married me, will never find someone like me, miss me so much, etc. One even said he had no reason to live anymore. Please. I told him he had had plenty of time to try harder with me over the years and I was done. So much time wasted, so much of an emotional and physical investment for pitifully low return. They didn’t care that they wasted my time or that I deserved a man who could treat me properly and love me for real. Just selfish guys. They’ll never find another woman to put up with what I did.

[–]MollzorFDS Newbie 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

2,5 years single here. I would have to stumble upon someone really amazing in order to give up the comforts of single life.

[–]chinchaslythFDS Newbie 58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Can’t wait to be single for a long time. It’s year 2 and I’ve gotten so many things done and gotten further in my career. I’m so happy and glowing and just in such a good spot.

My dad is my biggest supporter. Both my parents really. But my dad supports me emotionally and spiritually. He even said he’d help me financially if I ever need it because he believes in me so much. He’s stepped in and randomly given me money or bought me a new laptop when I mentioned i was looking.

My future man better be as good or better than my dad or I’m single. They have to add to my life and make it even better or I’d rather be alone. I’m so fulfilled otherwise.

[–]Cat_With_The_FurFDS Newbie 32 points33 points34 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Freaking same. My dad is incredible and yet I still dated a ton of LVM. Not anymore!

[–]chinchaslythFDS Newbie 20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Same queen. Grateful for FDS but I reread some texts and think about some things I said or some actions I took and thanks to my upbringing I was already doing some of these things beforehand without realizing it. Now I can read advice here and consult the handbook and do it better, deeper, and be even stronger. I’m turning 30 in December and I can’t wait to be an even better version of my badass self in my 30s with this new knowledge!

[–]AbundantOverflowFDS Disciple 28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

OMG! LISTEN! I could have written this. My dad is always adding value to my life. He is an excellent support system. He provides tangible things that I don't even realize I need and is always so considerate of my preferences and boundaries. It's so evident that he cares and wants me to be happy and comfortable.

It makes maintaining a high standard with men easier because I see what love and HVM behavior looks like on a daily basis with no strings attached.

I often tell him that I have avoided a LOT of unnecessary drama and heartache by simply having him as a steady, loving presence who consistently operates in integrity, kindness, and generosity towards me and my mom.

He is the reason I will not choose one of the Five Love Languages. He gives me all of them, and I insist on all of them from myself and a partner. Affirm me, serve me, hug me, gift me, and spend time with me. I am a multidimensional woman who deserves multidimensional love of all kinds.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes! Same for me and my dad! I have been going through a hard time and he googled and found a state park exactly in between where we live. We are going to meet there this weekend and share a cabin and hike. So sweet. He’s 75 and I can’t even think about losing him. 🥺🥺
