We all still have bits of leftover patriarchal conditioning that have been so ingrained in us, it can be like a reflex. I too still find myself in certain situations initially and reflexively giving men a benefit of the doubt they don’t deserve.

That’s a large part of the beauty of this sub, we can all keep breaking these things down and encouraging each other to fight these reflexes and give the actions and behaviors of men the skeptical scrutiny they deserve.

Its also partially caused by how mentally harrowing it is to constantly have to face just how disgusting, abusive, and manipulative, even just the average, everyday man, really is. But I’d rather see and acknowledge the truth than live in a pick me fantasy world, and at least we have this awesome community to not only help us continue to face and rid ourselves of our lingering patriarchal brainwashing, but to provide us with the support, advice, and encouragement, to do so!

The young woman's wellbeing was not the priority to him.

It would have been wiser and more discreet to just let the young woman know directly to check her searchability on Google as some personal identifying information was coming up linked to the address. If she thought he found something, him never mentioning it and acting like he never did would be fine for her to live with. If she asked him, he could say he saw the reddit but its completely none of his business and he just wanted to give her the heads up. Alternatively, he could ask the mother to let her know instead and mention the OF and respect her to speak with her daughter. It is not his child.

Protection wasn't his aim. Just the contrary. He enjoyed the power of holding knowledge and judgement over the young woman. It was not necessary to discuss it with other people before her mother, even if they were women. It's tantamount to badmouthing her as the stigma is obvious. If he intends his girlfriend's family to meet his friend's, he only succeeded in creating a reputation to preceded meeting the daughter.

As far as he should be concerned it's an adult woman's OF account. She is not his daughter and in just 3 months he hasn't built the kind of relationship with her where she could even begin to value his opinion. As a young woman, its for her mother to worry about her, not a relative nobody in her life. His "condoning" or not is irrelevant. Expressing his judgement of her, to someone who didn't ask his opinion, would be a red flag to me as the mother. Since he is a boyfriend and not a stranger, there are no brownie points for doing the bare minimum and leaving the young woman unprotected by not speaking up.

If he has good intentions about how he fits in this family's life, he has gone about it the wrong way.
