What if he can’t afford to date or pay his bills? Um, then he shouldn’t be dating. He should be spending his time figuring out his financial situation. Almost all superficial problems can be solved by getting another job, my guy.

We all need to pay for the things we want, no one is owed anything. I can’t afford to date a man that broke. (I can, but fuuuudge that!) What kind of man wants a woman paying for him? Oh, an LVM. The kind no one wants. Boo hoo, I want to have everything I want but I don’t want to work for it. Dries me right up.

I try to stay out of other subs. I know there is a lot of confirmation bias here, but there is simply no point trying to convince someone on the internet to consider your viewpoint. I mean, I’m not trying to hear theirs either. But, after getting shit on by men who are offended by feminism (the strict definition that everyone should enjoy the same rights) and men who are afraid of being falsely accused of sexual harassment/assault (read: they are pissed that women won’t let them get away with the things they have become accustomed to doing without censure anymore) with the most illogical and appalling responses, I see the futility of interacting with them.

When there is conflict here, it doesn’t tend to be disingenuous or feel like a personal attack. Funny that it’s all women and that very rarely happens...

Look, male lurkers, this is very simple. Few people on here are saying that a man must pay for everything forever more. Few say that dates must be him taking her in his private jet to a Manhattan steak house. They get this impression that a “HVM” must be some kind of celebrity high-roller. This isn’t true.

Effort and investment is all we want. He doesn’t have to dazzle me with stacks of cash. My life experience tells me that my old ways were not working for me. I was the Cool Girl who chased men and paid. That got me a shitty marriage with someone I had to strong-arm into every milestone and who would roll his eyes at me if I tried to show affection or share my feelings. It got me terrible dates after my divorce with men who clearly wanted to use and ghost women, men who negged me, all the awful behavior. It seemed the sweeter and more optimistic I was, the more I gave at the start, the worse it was for me.

It really says something that my current husband is the ONLY guy who pursued ME and courted me. There was never any wondering with him. Now I didn’t know about FDS then so I didn’t do everything “right” but it worked out because he was extremely invested, unlike the lukewarm men who came before him that kept me around because they had nothing better going on. If I ever find myself in the unenviable position of having to date again, it’s FDS or nothing. I will not date any man that doesn’t: message (or talk to) me first to indicate romantic interest, clearly ask me out on an actual DATE, pay for our first date, and give me clear, unambiguous interest. This doesn’t mean I would castigate a man who doesn’t do this. Hey I’m not everyone’s cup of tea and that’s ok. No need to get mad; just quietly Next them.

I’d rather be alone than with some guy I FEEL alone with, crying into my pillow and wondering why I’m not good enough. Fuck that noise forever. I’ve never felt alone or unloved with my current husband so he’s set the bar, god forbid something happen, I won’t accept less.

I also let him know that I financially supported my ex husband for ~5 years, who refused to work or do housework simply due to laziness/self entitlement.

My husband pays everything, I "helped" with some bills that we had before he got promoted and started to get a shitton of money. Thats it. He always paid the full rent, electricity, both our phones, gas and groceries. Get mad scrotes, you can cry all you want. Meanwhile I have nice savings, a relationship that is built on love and respect rather than financial dependency and a husband who prefers his wife and mother of his child to be more relaxed.
