After the 5th consecutive catch at family weddings, I was banned from the bouquet toss. 🤣 I just liked the pretty flowers for my nightstand, I have no intentions of getting married ever again.

LOL literally happened to me. The bride threw the bouquet and I stood at the furthest corner of the group, thinking that there's no way the bouquet would land to me. Well, it landed right in front of me. I was shook. So I stepped aside and the maid of honor rushed in from the front to pick up the bouquet and continue the events.

Maybe I should've just picked it up and....NAHHHH what am I sayin', stay queen y'all

I’ve noticed lately at weddings, that fewer and fewer women participate in the bouquet toss. The last wedding I was at, the bridesmaids had to beg and drag women onto the dance floor to do the bouquet toss, because the bride was getting upset at how few single women wanted to participate.

Funnily enough, I had just spoken an hour earlier with a bunch of my single cousins, and we were all talking about how we don’t like the bouquet toss. Many women find the whole idea of a bunch of single ladies desperately scrambling for a bouquet, in the off chance that the recently married bride’s “good luck” (ie she found a husband) will rub off on them.

If you enjoy it, that’s fine, it’s just a bit of fun. But for people like me who find the whole ordeal demeaning, and don’t enjoy the antiquated message about a woman’s worth being tied to her marital status, STOP TRYING TO GET ME TO PARTICIPATE. I’m not hating on the bride, I just don’t want to get clocked by a bridesmaid as she jumps for the overpriced flowers.

This is the reason I didn’t throw the bouquet at my wedding. I instead had all the couples in the room come to the dance floor, played a dance song, and basically I asked if they’d been together for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, etc. If they hadn’t been together for that long, I asked that they left the dance floor (like a musical chairs, but with numbers? Does that make sense?)

By the end, only the couple who had been together the longest would remain (usually your grandparents or another old couple), and they received the bouquet.

The couple who received my bouquet were very happy, especially the wife since she’d been excluded from the wedding ritual for literally 75 years.

Not one young woman I know today has ever willingly gone to the dance for the bride — only for expectation and everyone tries to avoid it.

This reminds me when I was at my cousin’s wedding and I caught the bouquet—I wasn’t trying to. I was actually taking a picture of the competitive crowd and I went to put my phone down when I heard someone yell “watch out!” To my surprise, the bouquet hit me in the face and I technically caught it. It took me a full minute to realize I caught the stupid thing. I remember thinking “Oh shit—no no no no no” as if I caught the black mark and I tried to pawn it off to the deflating crowd of other women. Thank god that about 3 months later I did get a true commitment (in a way) to the boy of my dreams—my first puppy. 🤗 But now I just opt out whenever the bouquet toss comes out.
