I'll never get why cooking is such a big deal for men when it's literally a survival skill. And at this day and age, when microwaves, youtube tutorials and all kinds of package sizes exist, it's unreasonable for grown ass men to depend on other people (aka women) not to starve .

Ditto for talking about the historical expectation that existed in some cultures that men would protect women. When you bring up that that means men can't hit women, or CHIVALRY, or that they would have to fight for women's honor and stand up when a lady enters the room and all of that- it totally goes out the window.

if men want to have the "it used to be so good back in the day" talk then let's mention those few aspects of it that actually benefitted women. Then their tune changes REAL quick

I enjoy cooking and I'm happy to do most of the cooking and cleaning. Of course that means my man has to pay a majority of the bills. Labour is not free. Cooking and cleaning are jobs and I will not do them if my partner isn't contributing equally. I'm not a charity, we both need to gain from our life together.

If a woman doesn't like cooking, then she's not obligated to. There are many ways people can contribute to their home life. If she's paying 50% of the bills then there is absolutely no reason why she should be doing more cooking or cleaning. Men are perfectly capable and must contribute and pull their weight. Preparing meals is a standard life skill.

I worked with my partner before we became an item. We worked in aged care which involved cooking meals. I noticed that he could cook some basics without asking for any help, plus he'd be a bit adventurous and try out some new ideas sometimes. Things he made tasted at the least acceptable to me and they were nutritious. I noticed it. I'm a very good cook and I have fairly high standards with food, I don't need a man who can cook and I prefer to take on that role in a balanced LTR. But it was still a significant factor in my attraction to him. He was capable and never viewed it as "womens work".

Men need to realise that even women who LIKE the idea of traditional roles and acting like a "wifey" will not be interested in doing that with incapable, lazy, childish and sexist men, if they have any self respect. I love the idea of that traditional stuff, but I'm also a modern woman who's been through a lot and I am only willing to have that dynamic with a man who's super worthy of it and who gives me plenty in return.

Men need to realise that the whiney lazy ones who feel entitled to their partner being a "wifey" will not/should not get it. They haven't earned it. The HV men who don't expect it and are perfectly capable of doing everything themselves are the ones who will get that from me. I don't want to cook for a man who can't cope on his own and would order pizza every 2nd night. I cook for a life partner who would be perfectly fine if I didnt. If a guy NEEDS me to take care of him then I'm not interested. It's like how we say we want a man who will be generous even though we're capable of paying all our bills and for entertainment. It's not about NEED and obligation to me, it's more about willingness and loving gestures.

I don't want to be a mom, I want to be a wife. I've been a mom-wife to a dope who couldn't function as an adult on his own (ex husband) and it was totally unacceptable, totally draining, really damaged my health and it's just nonsense and there's no excuse for it.

Moms take care of humans that can't take care of themselves. That is not partnership.

I call this kind of men pseudo-conservatives. They demand conservative and traditional values from women because it benefits them - who doesn't like a free maid to clean your house, do your dishes and then have sex with you? But when it comes to their duties as a providers, they quickly become liberals and even "FEMINISTS" and claim that a woman should split the bills because after all "eQuAl rIGhTs".

Preach! I’m surrounded by men who say they want to settle down and have a family etc. but then can’t actually do any of the basics. Everything needs to be fair. We both work full time but you’re home first? You can cook dinner then. What makes you think I want to be your servant?

My ex thought a box of cigarettes here and there was providing enough and “payment” enough for the daily laundry, toilet scrubbing, cooking etc. And then Mc Donalds was a treat. Unless I was paying for takeout on a night I didn’t want to cook and then I’d get lasagne, chicken etc. Sigh. Good riddance.

My mom is in her 60s now and she’s one of the few people her age I know who is incredibly vocal about what a bullshit deal “women’s empowerment” was for women, and she’s absolutely right. Oh great we can work now, but we also have to do all the stuff we always did at home. She’s always told me to NEVER do housework for a man who isn’t completely providing for you. My boyfriend is still in school, and I work part time, so he does the vast majority of the housework, and cooking. He also pays for all of our dates, and I pay for our major bills. When we start a family, he will be completely providing for me financially bc he respects my labor.

My boyfriend can cook all the basics and has a few dishes he can bang out that are great (chili, baked chicken, home made meatballs). I love - friggin LOVE - cooking, so I do that. But if all he could do was boil water I wouldn't have dated him. Cooking is a life skill and not something you should expect other people to do for you. Men who know nothing about cooking probably also know "nothing" about doing laundry, cleaning the toilets, scrubbing the tub.

"My mom never taught me" BULLSHIT, I say. My brother and I were doing chores from toddler up, singing Barney's clean up song, and cooking from first grade up. You can't tell me a mom wouldn't at least try to get her kids cleaning.
