This is a bit misleading. Turia Pitt had been dating Michael Hoskin for about two years before she was badly burned in an ultramarathon in 2011. He quit his job to care for her full time and they were engaged in 2015. Have two kids together, but not married yet.

Turia is an incredible badarse and Michael does seem to be a great partner, but they are not married and it’s a made-up quote.

My grandma was senile and disabled as a result of two brain surgeries. My grandpa took care of all of her medicine, insulin shots, food, and so on for years before she passed away. He was already well into his old age and didn't have to do it all alone, but he did it because he loved her.

You never have to settle for a man who you know wouldn't love you the same if the tables were turned and you suffered an illness or traumatic injury. You deserve to get back the same amount of love, effort, and respect that you're willing to put in.

The woman in the photo is Turia Pitt. She was burned when a grassfire swept through the 100km ultramarathon she was competing in. Turia and her partner just welcomed their second baby in February.

I was just thinking "Awww, he's good" then I thought: woah, that should be our minimal expectation, that you don't leave your wife when she gets an injury, or has something else that affects her appearance, like age or pregnancy.

We need to level up how seriously we take our wedding vows in this day and age, it boggles the mind that people can say "In sickness and health, til death do us part" and then be like, "But my wife got burned so nah."

She is Australian and got horribly burned in bushfires while running an ultra marathon. The event organizers were found at least somewhat responsible from memory, or she was suing them. They have kids and she was in advertisements for vitamins for a bit, after she did lots of interviews, public speaking and I think she wrote a book
