No kidding. Positions played yesterday morning in my shuffled list and I was just waking up. Usually I don’t listen to lyrics too closely but this one just gave me the “wtf is this mess?” feeling and switched to something different lol. I love how when we level up our mentality, we just can’t even stomach songs like these even if the tune is catchy

I have been having this same exact struggle. I literally CANNOT listen to my fave music anymore without thinking, "Damn, this song is about another Low Value d*ck that a CELEBRITY thinks she is beneath and is desperate to get." It is so annoying. I can't watch some shows or movies anymore either. All I can think is, "This is a Pick-Me mentality right here."

It gets annoying. I need empowering female music that I actually like to listen to. I just have this nagging feeling that the patriarchical standards for the music industry are the reason these gorgeous, talented women are making music to pander fulfill this male fantasy.

I was so excited for Positions and then I heard the lyrics... disappointment does not even begin to cover it. Now I can’t stop thinking about Stevie Nicks and her quote about how her abortion was the reason Fleetwood Mac was a success. Good role models are few and far between these days sigh

Yeah, I just can’t enjoy some of the music from my fav artists anymore. Dua Lipa and Little Mix are fairly consistent with some HV themes in their songs. Since FDS my music tastes have actually broadened. Little Mix’s new album Confetti has got some pretty good bops that I’ve been listening to.

Anyone got any music recommendations? I’m in the mood to make a playlist :)

I love Lana Del Rey's music, but I had to stop listening because the lyrics are so toxic. She's great at coming up with extremely beautiful and catchy melodies but ugh, I wish she'd work on her lyrical abilities and stop glamorizing domestic abuse.

I hate this kind of music. The women have to sing about sex and twerk and be half naked, to have their career. Their popularity is more about the gossip surrounding their lives than their talent. I’ll never support this genre.

I love Whitney Houston but I Have Nothing is a bit on the pick-me side. But I still love the song because I've been there. It really speaks to my experience. In a way that not even my favourite goth bands do.

IKR? I'd add Beyonce to this list, with lyrics like Love On Top, Hold Up or Partition. It's frightening that bestselling artists, to whom millions of impressionable young girls listen, perpetuate the narrative that a woman has to bend over backwards to please some random guy and it's such happiness and success when he finally picks her. -_-

Personally, when I was in my pickme phase, I loved Lana and found her lyrics so relatable, yuck! I still like to listen to her music because of the atmosphere, but I cringe at the lyrics now. It makes me sad and mad that another generation of young girls is taught that toxic and even abusive relationships she sings about is LoVe. I know a girl who always captions photos with her boyfriend with some of the most disturbing Lana lyrics like it's so romantic. I hope she wakes up and realise that when you can sum up your relationship with Lana's lyrics, it can't be good LOL.

One artist I sadly add to this list is Alicia Keys, well at least some of her old music from the early 2000’s. I’ve been obsessed with her song Fallin since I was in elementary school and thought “Sometimes I love you, sometimes you make me feel blue. Sometimes I feel good, at times I feel used. I was listening to this song yesterday while cleaning up, and the lyrics are written from an extreme pickme point of view... but it’s actually slightly FDS-adjacent in the fact that it’s obviously supposed to be kind of satirical. Like for example the title is LoveFOOL, so the point of the song is actually how foolish it is to be so desperate.

I thought I was crazy because I saw these women in the comments romanticizing Ariana's actions in the video but when she went from a working independent woman to cooking in the kitchen I was like 🤨?? It just didn't sit right with me.
