There’s a reason she threw him out. Why are you sticking around to find out what that reason is?

As someone who is divorced myself, I feel like I almost have to give divorced men a chance. At almost 40, it seems suspect if a man hasn’t committed to anyone before either. I fell for one recently, and while he didn’t trash his ex and said they had a good friendship now, he never really gave a convincing answer for why they got divorced either. (tangent: what is an acceptable reason for divorce that doesn’t send you running for the hills?) While confirming through court records that he was actually divorced (cause I’ve been burned by that before), I discovered that she was the one to petition, even though I recall him saying that he was the one to leave. It is pointless to play detective now, too many other red flags for me to stay.

But I’m trying to see if I can make any generalizations from this experience. Can anyone in FDS-land give an example of a divorced HVM they know, and their reason for divorce? Perhaps infidelity, but then, if he’s actually that great, why did his ex feel the need to cheat? Do HVM “simply grow apart” as people like to say?

Edit: sorry, I was trying to keep this brief. Yes, definitely LVW exist, and yes, sometimes the man is the one being abused. That being said, I seem to remember a study saying one of the primary reasons women have affairs because they were feeling emotionally neglected. Please note I’m not condoning cheating in any way, but I think women are generally driven to cheat because they are lonely in their marriage. In those instances, I think it’s a sign the man is emotionally unavailable/withholding.
